Back in '09 Haba made a Let's Play 7.62 HC thread on this board using the BFX mod, but unfortunately it can't be enjoyed anymore. The BFX mod turned into the Blue Sun Mod shortly after, and has gotten much bigger. At present day there are about 300 new weapons and countless items, not to mention a completely new quest line where you work for yourself. So here's another go at it, using the latest version of The Blue Sun Mod.

We'll be using these LP settings:
- BlueSunMod.ini settings are default
- Minimum amount of loading, maximum amount of saving.
- We will only use what we find, spending money on weapons is no fun.
- Team size is set to 6, so if anyone feels like having a merc in this LP, sign up.
- A picture for the merc is needed, class, a short bio and a list of pros and cons.
- Classes: Trooper, Sniper, Skirmisher, Sapper, Scout or Medic.

There is still one spot left on the team, and since we are playing hardcore other slots will surely open up later on. So if you feel like participating, post your info and I'll add them.

The story so far:
Session 1: Prologue
Session 2 : Getting the ball rolling
Session 3: All your base are now belong to us!
Session 4: Let's open an account in case we rob the bank later
Session 5: If I had a Tommy Gun the world would be a different place
Session 6: Lucky doesn't even start to describe it
Session 7: Tactics 101: Move hard and fast
Session 8: On open and dangerous roads
Session 9: Revenge is best served cold
Session 10: Ambushing Ambushers
Session 11: Slavery is bad and you'll pay dearly for it
Session 12: Give us a challenge and we will rise to the occasion
Session 13: When plans fail...
Session 14: Skyrider's ransom; 50 pounds of lead
Session 15: Your mine? It's my mine now
Session 16: Immortal Badasses are good...
Session 17: The Prototype
Session 18: Saving Armenso
Session 19: HK's wet dream
Session 20: No way Jose, the Doublecross
Session 21: Sniper girl gets some credit
Session 22: Let's do it Mick's way
Session 23: Geroj doesn't get hit
Session 24: Take a walk on the wild side
Session 25: The lone gunman theory
Session 26: Plane Tickets, Bitch!
Session 27: Falling like dominoes
Session 28: Rico Reyes must die

Meet the team:

The Brock

Bio:
Brock Sampsonson aka The Brock, a Swedish ex-military homicidal maniac. He started his career in the Swedish top military unit called Kustjägarna where he quickly showed his prowess as a cold blooded killer. Due to his quirkiness, he got kicked out of the Swedish military for refusing to wear a helmet. He joined the U.S.M.C instead and after a few tours in hot-spots around the world he left the service to become a private contractor, mostly working for the Russians.

Pros: Berserker. Camouflage.

Cons: Scared of depths. Wont wear a helmet.

Geroj

Bio:
Former drill instructor for the Slovakian army, Geroj is an excellent skirmisher. He has some troubles back home and had to flee the country, living in Algeira under a false name and mustache. Put a sawed-off shotty in his hands and he'll redefine the term "gut-shot" with "I was aiming for his head".

Preferred weaponry: Sawed-off Shotgun, Sa vz58

Pros: CQB, Mechanic

Cons: Accident prone

Preferred weaponry: Grenade launchers, M1928

Pros: Good driver, no, an excellent driver!

Kestrel (Hospitalized)

Bio:
Tero Chadwick was never one for law and order. As a child, he regularly hang around with "the wrong people". He got into shady business with gangs, doing jobs for them. A good runner, he regularly managed to escape the authorities by outmaneuvering them through the alleys and streets of York. As he grew up, so did the scale of his activities. Robberies made way for heists or outright assassination. When the authorities managed to crack down on his employers he started to feel the heat. He signed up as a contractor, moving from one civil war to the next. For his speed and agility, and tendency to strike from an unexpected angle, he received the nickname "Kestrel".

Preferred weaponry: SIG-552 or AK-102, but any short barreled assault rifle will do in a pinch

Pros: Highly mobile flanker

Cons: Can't stay still for long, thus refuses to use external armor, backpacks or heavy weapons.

HK_Talk.jpg

HK

Bio:
Secretly a coward, Harold "HK" Kaufmann works hard to act brave in the face of danger, but his preference for long rifles and sniper scopes speaks to his desire to stay far from potential incoming fire. A childhood accident with a carving knife hamstrung him and almost left HK unable to walk, which inspired him to heal and instilled a deep fear of pain, most especially from knives. Halfway through medical school, HK was kidnapped, tortured, and brainwashed by a neo-fascist terrorist group. Stockholm's Syndrome set in, and he eventually trained willingly with the terrorists. While HK was enslaved by the terrorists, both his parents passed away, largely from grief. After an American counter-terrorist group raided the compound and captured the cell, HK was halfway to being convicted of terrorism when it was revealed that he had been kidnapped and needed psychological help rather than a lifetime jail term. HK has since broken free of Stockholm's, but the whole three-year ordeal deepened his cowardice. As soon as the psychiatrists declared him healthy, he was put out of the hospital without a home to go back to. Alone, penniless, and with little left to lose, HK signed up for the first job his peculiar arrangement of medical knowledge, combat skills, and noncitizen status would allow: Medic for a bunch of mercenaries in some shithole country named "Algeira."

Preferred weaponry: Any HK manufactured gun

Pros: Medical skill, minor sniping/shooting skills

Cons: Terrified of knives (refuses to admit that a scalpel is a knife), cowardly.

Slowmo_talk.jpg

Jack "Slowmo" Haddasch

Bio:
Lazyness dominated Slowmos life like no other characterstic. When things were out of his reach he ignored them totally just because it would be too much stress for him to move. At the age of 9 he almost starved to death when his parent left him home alone for a six day holiday. But Slowmo turned his drawback into a personal advantage. He learned to use a grappler and phones and two way radios. When he entered the national service of Canada they almost threw him out because he refused to move any more than it was absolutly necessary. But then they noticed how talented Slowmo was when he changed his grappler with a long ranged sniper rifle. His natural aversion against moving gave him also the necessary patience to wait for his victim until it enters the crosshair of his sniper rifle. After three years in the Canadian Special Forces he quit because his wish for a personal helicopter and pilot who should fly him to his sniper positions was rejected.

Preferred weaponry: Any loooooong range sniper rifle, a grappler

Pros: Very accurate sniper skills

Cons: Low stamina ("Man, we walked all the way from the car to here!!"), Low Intelligence

Session 1: Prologue
**********************
- Meet The Brock - Mullets and Helmet Hair - Boom-sticks and knives -
- Point and Click - Santa-Maria is not very christmasy - Who's that Wino! -
**********************
We start the game by launching the BlueSunMod.exe and start to set up our game
5yEzQ.jpg
We will make it a little harder by turning off "Easy Money", "Low Adrenaline" and a few others. We keep "Eagerness" turned on so we don't have to waste time sleeping, because sleeping is for wuzzies.
iESqh.jpg
We leave the events tab intact, have gotten pretty used to those settings anyways.
eLHQl.jpg
We need to select a guy to be our first merc and spend some point on different stats. The Brock will be put into the Scout class so he'll get most points on his camouflage skill.
ATm0V.jpg
CzMSg.jpg
As you can see, we have to choose a class and as mentioned above, The Brock will be a scout.
q2Mr0.jpg
We redistribute some points ending up with some pretty good starting stats for The Brock.
YPh02.jpg
OAm5o.jpg
** INTERMISSION **
Let's get to know "The Brock" a little better by asking him a few questions. We managed to get hold of him before he left for Algeira, here he is after a night of doing good deeds.
Ghhks.gif
Q: Please state your full name
3dNh1.jpg
: Brock Sampsonson.
Q: What's your profession?
3dNh1.jpg
: I am a private contractor.
Q: How long have you been active?
3dNh1.jpg
: 20 years, give or take.
Q: What's your favorite part of the job?
3dNh1.jpg
: Meeting new people and killing them.
Q: What's your favorite weapon?
3dNh1.jpg
: Knives! But if I had to choose a boom-stick I'd go with the Bofors AK 5.
Q: Why did you leave the Swedish military?
3xpHn.jpg
: Uhm...
Q: Was it because you refused to wear a helmet?
EXaFe.jpg
: That's the official version, yes.
Q: So you refuse to wear a helmet, why?
3xpHn.jpg
: Uhm... It gives me Helmet hair.
Q: But you have a mullet!
lym1l.jpg
: That's it, interview is over!
** END OF INTERMISSION **
We start without any equipment, all alone in the middle of nowhere. Luckily, by searching the nearby car The Brock finds his first weapon, a Beretta 92FS with a spare clip and some FMJ rounds.
FNIVe.jpg
nZd37.jpg
Protip: By shift+RMB clicking we open up the shot selection menu, it will save you much time using this instead of clicking on the normal GUI buttons. Along with the spacebar, the shift key is by far the most used button in this game. It also speeds up the camera movement and for turning the merc in a direction.
HOnqN.jpg
Protip: The "Hold weapon at the ready"(P) is also very useful when in battle, it'll shave off some time from getting a shot fired.
gdQ7v.jpg
Protip: The "Aim-at-Point"(§) button is also very useful, especially when you are covering a corner and expects company. If used correctly, firing a shot with this only takes 0.05 seconds no matter what type of aim or weapon is used.
ZJiFI.jpg
QApN4.jpg
We leave the tactical map by pressing the "Leave"(M) button in the lower right corner. We need to set the "Time Acceleration" slider in the upper left corner to maximum and by left clicking we select our destination.
dzAAH.jpg
Protip: By drag-n-drop using the merc name tag, you can place mercs at different entry points. This can be very useful when attacking towns from several directions at once.
tXBhR.jpg
Here we are at Santa-Maria, our first town experience, and a very bleak one at that. It's a very poor town that contrary to it's name, hasn't got any christmas spirit. At all...
r3zAI.jpg
Hl9XR.jpg
We start by scavenging every container and boxes we can find. We found a couple of magazines that can be read and gives a one time bonus to the merc.
JB3e6.jpg
We now have a Makarov PM, M1911 A1 and a Benelli M4 Super 90. There's also an Aimpoint Red Dot sight that can be attached to any weapon with a weaver rail, and the Benelli has one! We need to find a shop that sells 12 gauge for the Benelli M4, we found some .45ACP and 9x18 Makarov ammo.
vawQL.jpg
M3jGb.jpg
RWbMs.jpg
wIzNF.jpg
Let's sell the excess stuff and see if we can't find some 12 gauge for the Benelli.
Protip: Since we don't play with "Easy Money", selling stuff to the right trader will increase your profit. In this case the Con Artist buys the M200 Ballistic vest for 257$ while the Bartender only pays 133$.
81EPD.jpg
6O9Rl.jpg
t8GWa.jpg
Here we have our first companion Geroj, and he will join the team if he gets his "Baby" back.

Session 2 : Getting the ball rolling
**********************
- Drunks and bums - Brotherhood of wine - Headshot! - Sagrada, no Sangria -
- Tacooo MeatooOOOO - Bomber Joe - Puerto Viejo - Mister Sister gets lucky -
**********************

Here's the guy having the "baby" needed to get Geroj to join the team. The quest can be solved without any shots fired, but where would the fun be in that?

gLUP5.jpg

The Brock introduces himself.

987QC.jpg

AL5HU.jpg
: Headshot!

He move out quickly, gets one of the brothers standing in the doorway. He chose an aimed shot, The Brock shot from the hip. The results speaks for themselves.

MTO03.jpg

iIgnb.jpg

QOTrX.jpg

The Brock runs out to see if any of the other brothers from the same mother are nearby, none are so he picks up the MP40.

9t4l8.jpg

C8GVW.jpg

Since Santa-Maria only has two entry points, it's easy to calculate where the remaining brothers will show up, and The Brock is not disappointed.

k9mCa.jpg

ZOAGe.jpg

The Brock moves up to see what was dropped, and the last bogey comes running. A quick burst from the MP40 forces him to take cover, which gives The Brock time to switch to his Benelli.

6LkiD.jpg

2gH73.jpg

The Wino makes a classic mistake, he changes his stance at the wrong time, and gets his just desserts.

nADQ2.jpg

MlQjg.jpg

Let's see what we got. A Taurus M650 and a Scatter gun, not bad. The Taurus revolver fires the powerful .357 Magnum round and is very quick to draw.

HW6IW.jpg

xXHRH.jpg

Geroj brings nothing useful to the team except the car.
BvBOt.jpg

R@S Note: Paquito is based on a real person as a tribute to his long carreer as a movie star in the Philippines. Paquito and Taco Diaz are both caricatures of the types of roles he usually played. More info HERE

Geroj is armed with an MP-448 Skif, a pea-shooter if I ever saw one. He takes the Scatter gun and some ammo.

zmkF6.jpg

KWybL.jpg

yTtRS.jpg

Time to leave Santa-Maria and head for our next destination, Sagrada.

IthUO.jpg

oN1WY.jpg

MBsNV.jpg

After the usual looting of crates we have a new rifle, but sadly no ammo for it yet. We also found some manuals which The Brock reads with much interest.

p6XAu.jpg

Iex4W.jpg

Here's Paco, the chief of police and quest-giver for the Blue Sun Mod quest line.

aneQ9.jpg

Paco gives The Brock his lost baggage and since The Brock chose the Scout class he gets a Bizon 2-03 and some other useful stuff.

t3K41.jpg

If we accept the mission he offers, we get deputized and given a badge. The badge gives us access to Pepe's premium stock

ZcrY2.jpg

QEEzW.jpg

The first mission is easy, The Brock talks to some people and arrest the miscreant. If he had been in a better mood he would have let him go, but having just met Paco for the first time his actions are understandable, and easily forgiven.

D2WbX.jpg

VQwHX.jpg

0knwO.jpg

The next mission involves stopping a suicide bomber from completing his mission.

DUz98.jpg

Geroj sets up camp watching the door in case the bomber slips by The Brock when he moves up for a close and pers'nal encounter.

mXfNO.jpg

rOpF6.jpg

It's a silly and easy mission, but it gives the team some explosives which will be useful later on.

KcggC.jpg

The team leaves Taco and Sagrada to do some side missions, Puerto Viejo is a good place for that.

N3IQo.jpg

9v3Qd.jpg

5vxkG.jpg

The crates didn't turn up much, but the belt is what The Brock wants, even more than the pr0n mag, which is weird.

4mUkr.jpg

The Hookers need some help, and they give some awards that are great to have early in the game. Picante needs help with a drunk a-hole that's been threatening her. The Brock, ever so valiant offers his assistance without any hesitation. He should have read the pr0n mag, shouldn't he?

MvtxO.jpg

And here comes the a-hole, right on schedule.

SPJa7.jpg

q9u1A.jpg

OnHrD.jpg

Two hip shots in his gut silences him for good, a job well done!

40Now.jpg

Picante is very grateful and gives The Brock a Glock 22 as a reward. It's a very useful gun early on, but ammo is hard to find. Pepe in Sagrada does have some in his stock, so when ammo is low that's the place to start looking for more.

vkjt9.jpg

k4gEp.jpg

The next hooker that needs our assistance is Mister Sister, The Brock takes pity on him/her and offers to take care of a few bullies.

YiPDf.jpg

3RlpT.jpg

The Scatter gun has the option to fire both barrels at the same time, which can be devastating in CQB, the downside is that you have to reload it often.

It5PM.jpg

nmsjh.jpg

By the time Geroj has reloaded, The Brock has joined the fray and thrown a quick aimed salvo at the bully. The shotgun blast throws the bully several yards backwards.

km0ju.jpg

quDQw.jpg

There are more bullies on the way, The Brock and Geroj splits up to cover their path towards Mr Sister.

pDqoA.jpg

G3ggU.jpg

When Geroj spots one, The Brock hits the dirt and shoots a 3 round burst, which takes the bully down.

kzvvc.jpg

The Brock continues moving towards the other entry point and meets another bully. He hit's the dirt, uses the "Aim-at-Point"(§) function, and when the bully tries to rush him, he gets mowed down in less than 0.3 seconds. That's gotta be a record of some kind.

1yUHI.jpg

4kzPq.jpg

odWQ2.jpg

SZgmW.jpg

The Brock's spidey senses tingles and he rushes back to see if anyone has snuck past him, and he was right. A quick hip shot burst from the MP40 sends to final bully to the other side.

lK5mN.jpg

FkUUJ.jpg

The loot is disappointing to say the least, only some Zastava M70's.

VIlL7.jpg

jSVhL.jpg

And here we have an excellent example of the quirkiness of this game. When The Brock got the Glock 22 from Picante, his pockets were full, so he dropped the weapon he had in his hands, the Benelli. During our battle with the bullies, Mr Sister got scared and picked up the closest weapon, which was our Benelli with the aimpoint red dot sight attached. This sucks but is part of the game, time to move on. The Brock accepts the next mission from Mr Sister, to find his/her missing boyfriend.

HbrLS.jpg

But before the team leaves Puerto Viejo, they drop by the local bar to sell off some loot, and gets another mission from some shady character calling himself Lond, Cyrus Lond.

xu97y.jpg

The team heads to Artrigo in search of Mr Sister's forlorn boyfriend.

nRM8U.jpg

fmgWh.jpg

Looting the crates doesn't turn up much, a gun magazine, which The Brock consumes with much delight. The only other thing of note is the M84 stun grenade.

B6rzA.jpg

W4S0x.jpg

The team find Mr Sister's boyfriend Elliot, but before he agrees to return to Mr Sister he needs some help. There's a preacher in Santa-Maria that should be taken care of.

zQ3vo.jpg

To Santa-Maria they go, serving the preacher some lead soup, then heads back to Artrigo.

r3zAI.jpg

D7auF.jpg

ROAs7.jpg

fmgWh.jpg

Elliot is pleased with the news and agrees to go back to Mr Sister, The Brock wants to go back to Puerto Viejo to tell share good news, but Geroj wants to take a look at the Army Base and help Lond.

vSezP.jpg

The team rearrange their gear and heads out.
hwTqC.jpg

crWaE.jpg

At the crossroad a fight breaks out between The Brock and Geroj, should they take the east or the west road?

V6YmQ.jpg

So I leave it up to you to decide, should they go east to Puerto Viejo or west to the Army base? Voting booth is open.

Puerto Viejo! While the Army Base isn't too much of a challenge, although a definitely fun firefight, it triggers the ambush among other things which I don't think is a good idea to do right now. I just deduced that with my powers of metagaming.

Thanks Haba, that means a lot:hug:

Since the vote was tied this morning I rolled a die. I also upped the size of the pictures a bit for this session from 800 to 1024, if that's not enough let me know and I'll start using the 1280 res.

**********************
Session 3: All your base are now belong to us!
**********************
- Going West - Cool Customer - Bogey Six O'Clock! - Helping Hand -
- Geroj Saves the Day - Surprising Garl - Good Caliber that one -
**********************

Geroj wins the argument with an awesome right hook and the team heads west.

ABQDd.jpg

EN75t.jpg

sCQc5.jpg

Garls Lackey #1 misses The Brock when he runs past, and Geroj uses this opportunity to aim.

bxh4R.jpg

When The Brock turns the corner, Lackey #2 and #3 sends The Brock into shock. With such high adrenalin levels any shooting is a waste of ammo.

cemwl.jpg

The power of the .40S&W decks Lackey #1 who passes out.

p8t07.jpg

Geroj moves up for the kill while The Brock retreats back to the safety of Geroj's bosom.

QeFoR.jpg

AL5HU.jpg
: Bogey 6 O'clock!

TFUxi.jpg

Keeping the enemy on their heels is important, so Geroj moves up to get out of the firing line. Lackey #2 gets a few rounds in his chest and goes down.

d6MPN.jpg

The Brock found some slim cover from Lackey #4, and when Lackey #5 comes running a single shot from the Bizon actually takes him down.

fWYFt.jpg

Protip: Notice the difference in adrenalin levels between The Brock and Geroj. Having high Experience is important, and if it hadn't been for Gerojs EXP 56 they probably would have failed to conquer the Army Base.

Geroj lends a helping hand and once again the .40S&W dominates the field. Say goodbye to Lackey #4.

592N0.jpg

Geroj is on a roll, wielding his Glock like there's no tomorrow. Lackey #6 and #3 gets dealt with swiftly.

Geroj's Glock needs reloading, but not here where enemies can pop out at any moment. Time to retreat and regroup.

The Brock covers their six while Geroj reloads, then moves around the house to get a good covering position.

When the door to the garage opens Garl just stands there with his back turned, and Geroj is not the kind of guy to miss such an opportunity.

Lackey #7 comes through the door and is greeted by a hail of bullets.

Lackey #8 rounds the corner to help out, but it's too late. The Glock 22 .40S&W saves the day in Geroj's expert hands.

Lootin' time! Some nice guns, uniforms that gives a bonus in Camoflauge and a repair kit. Geroj is a better mechanic than The Brock so he'll be the one fixing stuff in the future.

The Brock opens the safe and retrieves the folder Lond wants, he also finds a Field Radio and an HK UMP 45.

With all this new hardware it's time to update the load-outs.

: Can we go to Puerto Viejo now, boss?

: Nah, I know where we can find this chica who'll join our team.

: Really!?
sBu5H.jpg
: Settle down and read a magazine why don't you!

They head to Campecino to talk to a guy name Clive. Lond will be very angry about the delay, but pissing people off is part of the game.

Wow, R@S, you're quick!

Good update! I am impressed with Geroj's gunslinging. I am usually not this lucky with pistols.

A question, though: in the safe, along with the documents, is a flight manual (apparently in Arabic). What is this used for?

Yup, since I only have time to play on weekends I tend to really immerse myself when I do. I have already played the next session and am about to start writing it down. Maybe I'll get it done before I hit the sack tonight, we'll see.

And yeah, Geroj's high experience and gunslinger stats really pays off, even if his adrenalin is quite high he still connects with that Glock. I see a romance between them in the future

The flight manual can be sold to Hosa/Calderon after you have completed some vanilla quests. I haven't done that quest in years so I'm a bit fuzzy on the details, sorry.

It is a joke. Hint: A certain intelligence agency is very interested in the files...

I'm aware of that, but it's an item that sits in your very-important-items-bar. But now I know you can sell it later in the game.

The next update is done, was about to upload the images when suddenly Imgur starts acting up. So I'll hold off on it until tomorrow morning, and maybe there has been enough posts so we can start fresh on a second page. I think this page is already pretty heavy as is.
