IIRC The custom potraits just require some .ini fiddling, same with making mercs with custom stat (That's not the main character). That's how they got everyone from JA2 into the mod in the first place. And it's not normal for gamersgate to be slow. My purchase with them has always been instant. Except the day Paypal decided my computer was hacking my paypal account and freezed it.

As far as I know, Gamersgate is the last place to get 7.62HC besides hunting for a physical copy on Ebay.

Please check the INI folder in the 7.62 game folder. What files do you see there?

The next session will be posted later tonight when I get home from work. I have also already played one more session, which might be posted tomorrow. It's just one more mission to go, then this LP will be complete.

Uh-oh. The Brock's already nearly dead... one wrong move in this ambush and he might well bite it.

Ahhhh finally an update! The over the shoulder cam was nice. Although sending Brock all alone into the base was a bit risky.

S28_P48.jpg

S28_P49.jpg

S28_P50.jpg

S28_P51.jpg

Back at the Blue Sun Base, the team sells the loot and gets their reward. The next mission is capturing Cali-Cantinos which will end the battle with Palinero.

S28_P52.jpg

S28_P53.jpg

The Plan
The team will spilt into two squads, The Brock, Rob Yu and Slowmo in Squad 1 and Geroj, HK and BNC in Squad 2.

S28_P54.jpg

The Brock takes out the first sentry with his newly acquired AK-107 with a silencer and Cobra red dot sight.

S28_P55.jpg

Another enemy comes around the corner, The Brock stops him with a shot, Rob Yu also connects with a burst from his HK23e.

S28_P56.jpg

S28_P57.jpg

It takes a headshot to finally bring down the heavily armored enemy.

S28_P58.jpg

The team is in position for the assault on the compound. HK and Geroj covers the main roads leading to the compound. Rob Yu covers the the area most likely to be past by the enemy and Slowmo covers the two entry points to the compound. The Brock will move in alone and take care of all the defenders.

S28_P59.jpg

Slowmo takes out the sentry in the watch tower.

S28_P60.jpg

The Brock opens the door and spots a guard with his back turned. Big mistake.

S28_P61.jpg

An enemy tries to reach the compound, but Rob Yu will have none of that, not on his watch.

S28_P62.jpg

As The Brock moves trough the door, he spots two more guards. A grenade is thrown before he runs for cover.

S28_P63.jpg

S28_P64.jpg

S28_P65.jpg

The Brock switches to his specialist tactic, one shot in the chest to stop them, another shot to the head to kill them.

S28_P66.jpg

S28_P67.jpg

Rinse and repeat.

S28_P68.jpg

S28_P69.jpg

Once of the guards dies by a shot to the leg, Achilles heel kill.

S28_P70.jpg

As the Brock moves further into the compound, he hears a noise from behind. A quick aimed shot forces the enemy to drop the weapon and starts to run away.

S28_P71.jpg

Another enemy runs into Rob Yu's trap.

S28_P72.jpg

The final enemy is killed by a headshot.

S28_P73.jpg

The mission requires the team to kill Rico Reyes, Geroj draws the shortest straw.

S28_P74.jpg

The new Mayor has nothing to say about the new management.

S28_P76.jpg

Not much new loot.

S28_P75.jpg

Tang gives the team their reward, and the location of Bashirov.

Cali-Cantinos is a breeze if you collected the officer uniforms from the previous battles. You can kill several enemies before they become hostile. And in the house where Uribe was formerly residing is good sniping spot on the second floor.
I give a 9.5 for the achilles heel shot and a 10 for the arse shot :D

Very nice.
I tried playing the game a bit but it's pretty hard, especially in jungle maps. I went straight for the escort quest to the prison. I can kill one of their squads with suckerpunches before they are hostile but then I get raped by the other. Maybe I should go back and find some better weapons, SMGs and shotguns are not quite adequate for ranged combat.
I wish this was more of a JA2 game with proper cover.

The mission where you have to escort Miguel to prison can be hard. As you are outmanned it is better not to stay in the open and attack the enemies. I would rush for the prison and set a defensive position there. Then you can send 2 men through the tunnel in the prison so they appear in the back of the enemy. You are right, Shotguns and SMGs are meant for urban combat and close range. On the prison map long range weapons dominate much more.

I usually manage to scavenge a 30.06 or 7.92 mauser bolt action rifle by then. But that is just because I always attack the army base right off the bat.

But in playthrough I started about the same time as R@S did this LP, I did that mission with one of my guys having a M1 garand. No idea where I got that from. Also, the SMGs you can get before the prison mission can easily touch someone at about 60 meters, provided you're proned.

Also, in situations like that you can be a real dick.

Get a bunch of grenades, whatever you can buy or loot. (TNT charges work well for this, too)
Set some in the middle of each enemy group.
Split up and have one merc throw a grenade into each group.

BOOM.

Oh, I always carry a block of TNT around for me to drop and remote detonate when I need to fall back. Once the enemy charges up to my former position, KABOOM!

The escort Miguel mission is best done with ranged weapons, like I did in in this LP. I usually let the terrain determine what type of tactic I use, and when given the choice, I prefer to set up my shooters with a clear line of fire. It's important to keep track of which enemy has a clear shot and good weapon, and make them a priority. But since you have time to set up some explosives in that mission, why not?

It's been busy lately, but I still found some time to play. I have two more sessions played, just need to write them up, might get the first one ready by tomorrow.

Welp, R@S is clearly dead. And thus in the Grand Internet Tradition, I hereby call "dibs" on his position. All lauding and praise for creating the Blue Sun Mod should hereby go to me.

Wait... That means that I'm also supposed to get everyone asking me when I'm going to update, and complaining about unfixable errors in the source....

Anyone else want his position? I've changed my mind.
