Fuck this shit! 3 shot and all miss!!! God damn lowest bidder of military arms! God damn them to hell!!!!
Eh, to be fair, that shot was at terrible odds anyway, considering you're trying to fire at long range at a full run. Things will get better once you get close enough to make them eat the gun muzzle!

Round 14 MOVEMENT (charge and separate)

It appears that Team blue has written the Dragon off since all the mechs turned to face the rapidly approaching Trebuchet. As a result only the exposed rear armor of the Dragon is much less optimal than the much closer Treb. With the Hunchback backing up and the Warhammer and Cronus shuffling around, the fight becomes a close range slugfest again. Everyone has a target within 7 hexes. The questions now are if Team blue will continue to harry the damaged Dragon, or target the low armor Trebuchet. Meanwhile Team Gold is hoping that the blue team's luck will finally run out. FYI the Hunchback has only 4 rounds left and then it is down to a small laser and attitude.

here is your map.
Turn14Fire.jpg

And here are your numbers

Team Gold:
Dragon (+1 Walked):
Warhammer (10 Hexes) +1 PPC, med lasers cannot fire
Hunchback (7 Hexes) + 0 PPC, med lasers cannot fire
Cronus (3 Hexes) +1 med laser, +2 PCC (min range)

Trebuchet (+1)
Warhammer (7 Hexes) +1
Hunchback (4 Hexes) +0
Cronus (4 Hexes) +0

Team Blue:
Warhammer (+1 Walked)
Dragon (10 Hexes) +1
Trebuchet (7 Hexes) +1

Hunchback (+1 Walked)
Dragon (7 Hexes) +1 Partial Cover
Trebuchet (4 Hexes) +2

Cronus (+1 Walked)
Dragon (3 Hexes) +1 Partial Cover
Trebuchet (4 Hexes) +2

Hmmm, much easier to calculate numbers now.

Round 14 FIRE (Another one bites the dust)

Team gold decided that four rounds of fire from the Hunchback was 4 rounds too many. Both remaining mechs fired on the Hunchback. Meanwhile, Team blue spit their fire, with the hunchback getting started in the Trebuchet and the other two mechs trying to finish off the Dragon. Note for planning next rounds movement. In this picture several mechs have torso-twisted. Look at the white triangle on the hex to find their actual facing.

Here is your map

Good news, the Huncback hit the pristine left arm of the Trebuchet, tearing it cleanly off. Bad news, as Team gold can attest, hitting the arms of a mech with torso mounted weapons is largely useless. Of course hitting the arms is not always useless. This is proven when the Dragon's PPC hits the Hunchback's left arm...again. Since the arm was blown off some time ago the damage transfers to the left torso and penetrates; scoring one critical hit on.... the ammo.

Mushroom.jpg

Yep, the Hunchback became the second mech to get destroyed by ammo explosion in this match and about the 4th mech that I have ever (in dozens of games) seen go that way.

Rest of the damage is pretty anti-climatic, the Warhammer misses, but the the Cronus drops the Dragon's center torso down to four armor remaining. At this point the Dragon's CT armor could not stop a medium laser (and the Cronus is packing three of 'em).

The arm hit on the Trebuchet wasn't wasted though, that's one of his three lasers out, reducing his remaining firepower by a third. :smug: If the right arm also goes, the Trebuchet is reduced to running around, trying to kick his opponents.

His only torso mounted weapon is one of the LRMs, and they're all out of ammo. :troll:

Round 15 MOVEMENT (Wait, that thing has jump jets!?)

Team gold decided it wanted to try the pincer movement again, probably forgetting that the Cronus has jump-jets that make a mockery of crossing the river. In a pretty savvy maneuver, Team blue pretty much nailed the Dragons movement and ended up adjacent to, and one hex up from the Dragon (can anyone say "boot to the head"?).

In other news, the Trebuchet cautiously closed with where the Cronus was, only to find that its target is now at medium range, with significant movement modifiers as well. At least it has both partial cover and the shielding of woods to protect it from the stationary Warhammer in short PPC range. Still as we have seen, sometimes it is better to be good at rolling dice rather than strategy so you never know what can happen.

Round 15 FIRE (The Cronus has to die)

Well, despite the Warhammer being easier to hit (since it did not jump 5 hexes), Team gold continued to focus on the Cronus; hoping to get a 3rd kill. Meanwhile Team blue continued to pound on the Dragon with the Warhammer and the Cronus in turn poured out an over-heating amount of fire onto the adjacent Dragon.

Sadly for Team gold, the additional defensive movement of the Cronus saved it, and all of Team gold's fire missed.

On the other hand, the Dragon did not jump and Team blue continued its habit of concentrating fire on the locations that hurt. In this case the Warhammer's first PPC hit the LT, which transferred to the center torso (since the left torso was missing). Crunch, goodbye armor, 14 internal structure left, but no critical. The second PPC hit the center torso directly; also causing no critical, but leaving only 4 internal structure. With a missing left side and only 4 center torso internal left, it was unlikely that the Dragon would survive the Cronus's fire, and it didn't. One of the medium lasers hit the LT and transferred to the CT, finishing the Dragon off. :salute:

Round 16 MOVEMENT (Mexican Standoff)

Rather than take advantage of the Cronus's heat to clear the field, for movement all mechs straighten up, take aim and start firing.

No movement at all. Let's see how long the Trebuchet can take the fire.

With more time, here is your map.

Wait, the pilot of the dragon didn't get to eject? Aw, didn't want to cause a proper fatality there, just wreck the mech..
