I said this game looks gay the moment it was revealed. I knew it from the start :smug:

Perhaps turnbased wasn't so bad after all?

It's much less than the numbers FFXV managed, but that wasn't a PS5 exclusive, so there's that.

It's a great launch for Square, better if you add the big check Sony handed them for the exclusivity.

That may be true but it's also misleading.

FFXV was released as long after PS4's release date as FFXVI was after PS5, and practically all the sales in Japan were for the PS4. The sales for XBONE were less than 4000.

FF16 has sold 3m copies so far. There are about 35m PS5s out there. That is an attach rate (so far) of 8.5%. That seems fine for the end of week 1 and not at all a flop.

Square get a second bite of the cherry (times two) when they port it to PC (and XBOX). When you consider the fee Sony will have paid for timed exclusivity and assume that Square get circa $40 per sale they have probably already turned over at least 100m which would mean they are already in profit considering that they used much reduced time and team size for FF16 compared to previous games.

It is ok not to sell as well as the PS4 games. PS4 had been out for three years by the time that XV was released and, unlike the PS5, had actually shipped well enough to have a sizeable installed base by that time.

I was talking about the general Japanese console game sales (outside of nintendo) which have completely collapsed.
