I find the need to repopulate a world mostly devoid of human life quite appealing too.

Hehehe ... *rubs his hands*
You WOULD have to build log cabins for the rest of your life, come to think of it not even the GECK would relieve you much

hehe, i remember this thread. this was after oblivion came out so codex had experienced it's first dramatic influx of new posters (our war with Bethesda forums attracted attention), so the level of discourse was already descending from where it was in 2002-2004.

go look up 2002/2003 threads about RPGs and you're gonna be fucking shocked at how not shocking the conversations are.

alternatively this was also the lawless times of the codex when there were no offenses for which one could be banned.

members would google out a pic of a female poster and upload a picture of her polaroid with their cum splattered on it. good times!

With the SJW's have spreading their poison for enough years, it'll not be long before our pics are uploaded smeared in ji-juice :bounce:

Wow, the necromancy is strong in this thread. Someone already pointed out that people have been saying the things kingcomrade is since the game came out and the 2 decades from then haven't softened the blows. I wouldn't agree with "it takes too long after the war and isn't post-apoc anymore", well, yeah, but there's no rule that says a post-apoc setting has to stay in a perpetual bubble. Change is good if it isn't stupid. The pop culture references are dated, though, so much that many people won't even realize they are references. That's the nature of pop culture, it's always the language of the past and as such it gets forgotten. The more interesting questions are why they decided to design it the way they did. I haven't watched the interview with Boyarski and Cain on Eurogamer yet, so I don't know if they talk about Fallout 2 or only 1.

Also a reason to actually avoid pop-culture references; the product will invariably age, and one day, the references are simply fucking lost, and standout as nonsense.

You're boring.

We need to cease and desist any complaints at all with either Fallout 1 or 2. One bad point might drive Bethesda to use the Oblivion engine and create Fallout FPS: Mutant Mayhem. You never know what might drive those crazies over the edge.

:hmmm:

He fucking jinxed it. This will be a point of time in future for time travellers to go back to and change the course of history with a good and clean assassination.

After finally finishing Fallout 2 (FINALLY, now I can properly say New Vegas > Fallout > Fallout 2), I want to see what kingcomrade got right and what he got wrong:

Anyone else thing Fallout 2 is boring? I can play Fallout over and over, but Fallout 2 is boring.

You start out as some retarded barbarian, so it doesn't make sense to make a high intelligence/big guns/energy weapons/lockpick/anything character. The Temple of Trials is stupid. New Reno is stupid. All of the dumb pop references are stupid. Everything in New Reno is really stupid.
It takes place too far after the actual nuclear war. I'd prefer to go to another part of the country.

The pipe rifle is awesome, but all the real-world guns, the p-90, FN-FAL, the hk, etc. are stupid. Fallout isn't about playing with real weapons. I don't think the Desert Eagle should've been in Fallout 1, the 14mm pistol should've been it's replacement (same stats and stuff, so it would actually be useful).

The atmosphere doesn't seem like it's post apocalyptic, just lawless. And not even lawless in a cool wild west way, just lawless in a "lolz dere aer hookrs and drugs and cussnig i cn hav lesbo sexxx wit that wun lady!"

The aliens were stupid. Why are there aliens?
The plot was stupid. Really stupid.
Horrigan was stupid.
Too many easter eggs. Too much nonsensical "lol tis is fnny!" contrived humor. Fallout 2 seems like a parody of Fallout 1, sometimes. They took a lot of what everyone loved about Fallout 1, and then put flashing lights and billboards around it. Maybe less is more, with some things.

A fault in both games: the name slot is too short to put "Patrick Stewart"
If I just put Patrick, people might think I mean Patrick Moore (who plays the xylophone).

It was too long. It was overstretched. Usually I wouldn't complain about too much content, but a lot of the content was pointless.
That stupid tree in Harold's head. What the hell?
Sulik. Ugh. What were they thinking?

Too much sex. Seriously. Let's compile a list of people you can sleep with. Feel free to add ones that I miss.
*= when you're female
**=when you're both male and female

Guy with key in Klamath*
Women in the spa.
Hooker in the Den.
Guy in bar in the Den.*
Slavemaster in the Den.*
Miria in Modoc.**
Davin in Modoc.**
The lady whose husband you rescue in Vault City.
The S&M mutant in Broken Hills (if you lose the arm wrestling match).**
The retarded wannabe Texan prostitute in the bar in Redding.
Cat's Claw mistresses in New Reno.**
The mafia boss's wife in New Reno.**
The mafia boss's daughter in New Reno.
You can keep a cock hard at the porn studio in New Reno.**
You can star in a porn movie in New Reno.**
Those are all that I can remember off the top of my head.

As far as I can remember, you can sleep with two people in the first Fallout. The lady at the Red Caravan, who gives you free stuff so it's not just a -fade to black omg you had sex- and the prostitute in Junktown.

So, I don't like Fallout 2. Who else doesn't? If you don't like Fallout 2 you are a better person than people who do.

HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING.

But it is not and non isometric turn-based games are inherently inferior to isometric turn-based games :smug:

The first Fallout I played happened to be Fallout 2, because I was still accidentally discovering real RPGs. It took me a few years to realise why FO1 is on a different level. I still enjoy 2, but 1 has a parsimonious elegance, achieving everything it needs with a bare few instruments, while 2 is a cacophony with 19 different audio channels.

It's simple, in the end: is there something in FO2 that you would want to put into FO1, that would improve FO1? No, not really, except a couple of interface jiggles or whatever. That's all there is to it.

What I would put in FO 1 from FO 2?

Companion management
Size of the world
Additional weapons
Atachments
Car
Some of the quests
Politics between communities

Just from the top of my head.

The only major gripe I had with FO 2 were the overabundance of cultural references.

So, couple of quality improvements, and then weapons & quests is like saying "fo2 had some great content" which is true but isn't here or there.

I don't really think FO1 needs a bigger world and having more intricate politics would again take you away from that early wasteland feel.

Again, the point is that FO1 achieves such a self-contained excellence, while FO2 goes for something different, a bonanza, and I still enjoy both a lot.

Those are quite a few quality improvements. Furthermore quite a few of the companions were actually useful throught the game, especially Cassidiy, Sulik and Vic not so much Myron and Marcus though. FO companions just die in the second half unless you are really lucky. They are also more interesting than those in FO.

As to lenght I guess we can just agree to disagree there.
