Requiem for Normandy

Band of Bros theme

lphoi2spain023.jpg

lphoi2spain024.jpg

lphoi2spain025.jpg

While the struggle for Saint-Etienne continued, both Lyon and Argentan have fallen, and now the situation at Normandy has become truly complicated, for one mistake, everything could be lost.

lphoi2spain026.jpg

The last enemy divisions in Spain were being mopped up.

lphoi2spain027.jpg

lphoi2spain028.jpg

An attempt to retake Argentan is launched, but upon realizing the numbers of enemy forces defending it: eleven tripod divisions, the offensive was immediately cancelled, for it was known they stood no chance of attacking such a force in their current conditions.

lphoi2spain029.jpg

In France, Saint-Etienne fighting carried on against two divisions of tripods. The engagement was similar to the deadly and long battles of the First World War.

Battle of Cholet

lphoi2spain030.jpg

Perceiving a weakness in Cholet, an immediate attack is launched against the enemy forces situated there. Losing ground won't be a good thing in a situation like this, and taking Cholet would partly compensate for the loss of Argentan.

lphoi2spain031.jpg

While an extremely brutal assault was going against the Tripods at Cholet, causing immense casualties to the UDMS-KKK forces but still succeeding at gaining ground, the enemy however reacted, launching a flanking counter-offensive against Angers.

lphoi2spain032.jpg

bez_nazwy1.jpg

Such offensive could ruin everything unless stopped. Once again, the South Kwanzanian forces led by General Mascarenhas de Moraes were in the onset of a massive battle, trying to hold their ground against 11 tripods.

lphoi2spain033.jpg

Most of the tripods are understrength in Cholet hours since the the relentless assault has begun, when counter-offensives are launched to flank the tripods at Argentan, Near two million soldiers are engaged in these set of engagements which would become known as the Battle of Cholet, the largest battle ever fought in the War of the Worlds, more massive than even the battle of Managua in its scale, and the largest tank battle of history as well.

lphoi2spain034.jpg

More reinforcements arrive at Argentan, to worsen the situation while a near entire day of nonstop combat was over, but the offensive carries on, no matter the cost, for if Angers falls, ITZ will be over there, and thus, the soldiers advanced bravely against the superior enemy, massive tanks forward with no fear.

lphoi2spain035.jpg

lphoi2spain036.jpg

Another pyrrhic victory happens in the English Channel, meanwhile. A nihilistic mindset has been casted upon the remnants of the former Kwanzanian Navy. They believed it was their duty to fight to death like most of their friends, and thus the brave crew of the San Juan went to their final duty.

:salute:

lphoi2spain037.jpg

In Africa, realizing the threat of being encircled, Tripods attempt to break the advance of AfrikaKKKorps slowly surrounding them.

lphoi2spain038.jpg

10_copy90.jpg

Four tripod divisions are completely annihilated after many hours of shelling in Argentan, and ironically, the counter-offensive against Angers might actually allow the liberation of Argentan through this tought battle.

lphoi2spain039.jpg

polenpv.jpg

Reinforcements of the enemy come to Argentan, but most of the Tripod divisions were completely drained of all organization thanks to the unremitting bravery of the men who fought all along Normandy. Anti-tank ensues the obliteration of the enemy and the chance of victory.

lphoi2spain040.jpg

Meanwhile, to ensure Cholet shall end in victory, brave airmen sacrifice themselves, hopefully not in vain, to provide air support to the attackers. Many shall question this decision later, but now was not the time: the enemy forces far outnumbered everything available for the UDMS-KKK, and every tripod lost would be a loss they wouldn't ever recover.

lphoi2spain041.jpg

Oulu falls quickly, meanwhile. Plans for the evacuation of Scandinavia are being set when it becomes clear the utility of this purely diversionary offensive is gone. they shall be redeployed somewhere else with thin enemy presence to hopefully draw away enemies from the real battlefield.

lphoi2spain042.jpg

leopardtanks.jpg

However, when it seemed Argentan was about to be liberated, a massive wave of reinforcements composed mostly by tanks arrived, and then a final plan was set to hopefully turn the tide of this battle, changed rightwhen the UDMS-KKK soldiers were so close to victory.

lphoi2spain043.jpg

afghan-army-soldier-fires-006.jpg

A fake "retreat" lures the enemy to the slaughter, and this ambush thus shall decide the outcome of this long battle.

Those Stacks of Doom are a problem, I suppose if you break them its going to be a walk for a while.

The lines still look to be a issue as their Naval superiority now hampers your re-deployment and its still too much of a vast and erratic front so defenses and offensives cannot be properly conducted, its not going to get better due to geography even if you link and eliminate trapped units.

Africa seems abandoned with a token defensive force, I guess you can retake the continent at will and with Suez bottleneck you have a good defensive point, unless they learn to conduct naval landing operations.

Ultramarines Chant

lphoi2spain044.jpg

After the successful execution of the RPG ambush against the armored divisions that just came to support the tripods defending Argentan, the attackers gain some ground, and might yet emerge victorious.

lphoi2spain045.jpg

ultramarines-veteran-space-marine.png

Drained of organization, the Air Marines are forced to retreat to Toulouse as soon as they step on Saint-Etienne. Immediately 13 divisions from Toulouse are ordered to arrive simultaneously at Saint-Etienne, to hopefully secure it definitively.

lphoi2spain046.jpg

bandofbrothers-hd.jpg

When they seemed to be about to break through the enemy lines, it became clear the soldiers of the UDMS-KKK conducting the offensive were mentally and psychologically depleted, as the enemy under the command of Field Marshall MisterStone continued to hold it. However, they still were managing to push through in spite of their exhaustion, but soon they would fold, unless a decisive victory is achieved.

lphoi2spain047.jpg

For now, only the success over Argentan would wipe away the bad news of another unsuccessful offensive. Taking over Cholet was proven once again pointless against the river and the powerful enemies on the other side.

lphoi2spain048.jpg

lphoi2spain049.jpg

But everything was ruined when the number of divisions defending Argentan practically doubled at once. There were no more chances and thus the offensive at Argentan is over as another failure, after nearly an entire week of battle. The only good news in the Normandy front was the fact Angers was secure now. Much blood has been shed in vain in this month of July. The only benefits were the obliteration of four tripod divisions along the gigantic battle of Cholet, which would mean that if another chance to attack comes, things will be slightly less difficult.

lphoi2spain050.jpg

In the evening of 12th of July, the last territory of Spain formerly occupied by the aliens is secured, while Bourdeaux is about to be occupied, an important step to encircle several enemy divisions in Aux. Millions of Hispanics and true Spaniards have migrated to Spain, awaiting for the time. The UDMS-KKK always honor her promises, and thus a new democracy would emerge among its members.

lphoi2spain051.jpg

After nearly a decade, the Second Spanish Republic rises from the ashes, promising unrestricted liberty to the people. Franco becomes desperate as this act is an obvious declaration that the sovereignty of Nationalist Spain is not recognized by the UDMS-KKK, while British diplomats exchange a few glances about the whole event. It had a very deep meaning: it was a open statement of the UDMS-KKK to the rest of the world, that their goal was the unification of the human race under their own agenda of liberty, threatening the interests of many oligarchs and Jewish conspirators, mostly located in England. The fact Gibraltar was given to Republican Spain was seen with extreme hostility by the British government.

Soon a new superstate would have to be formulated. Strategically, at this moment, the advance through North Africa carries on while another tripod division is about to be encircled, and the struggle for Southern France continues challenging and difficult, although soon more strategic redeployments and reinforcements shipped by sea shall arrive.

lphoi2spain052.jpg

Saint-Etienne remains under dispute, while Scandinavia truly takes a turn for the worse

lphoi2spain053.jpg

ITZ COMING. Several divisions in Kajaani suffer the risk of being completely encircled now that Rovaniemi has been lost. Where in all other fronts major disasters have been mostly prevented, the situation could end quite differently here.

lphoi2spain054.jpg

Bergerac is attacked, and air support is coming.

lphoi2spain055.jpg

lphoi2spain056.jpg

Once again Mannerheim is put in a seemingly impossible mission of holding Nimes. His men fight bravely, and might eventually prove their cunning and courage even against such superior enemy odds of victory. Bergerac's offensive fails, meanwhile.

lphoi2spain057.jpg

When everything seemed lost, a daring counter-attack is launched in Nimes, which helps to buy time as reinforcements are moving from Montpellier.

lphoi2spain058.jpg

After nearly 24 hours of fighting, through which the Finns bravely held their grounds against such fearsome force in spite of their understrength divisions and technologically outdated equipment, the reinforcements finally arrived, and under Mannerheim's command, immediately begin moves to drive back the tripods.

lphoi2spain059.jpg

More divisions continued to attempt evacuating towards Hammerfest, meanwhile.

lphoi2spain060.jpg

lphoi2spain061.jpg

In contrast to the futility of attempting to defend Rovaniemi, finally, after more than one day of nonstop battle, Nimes is successfully defended. Shouldn't that courageous counter-attack by the Finnish soldiers not have happened, this could have turned quite differently. However, another problem is identified.

lphoi2spain062.jpg

The French logistics have surrendered to the aliens

Well the whole "you get supplied by your ally when in their territory" mechanic can be a bit messed up at times, and is still in the third game. For example I tried to liberate British North Africa from Iraq as the Germans in my campaign. Simply couldn't be done since my forces were unsupplied the second they set foot in Africa and thus couldn't beat some militia rabble.

Neverending Stalemate

Music

lphoi2stalemate001.jpg

Another offensive at Bergerac fails.

lphoi2stalemate002.jpg

Once it becomes clear thirteen divisions won't be enough to defend Saint-Etienne, they are ordered to retreat to Nimes while all forces in Nimes are to arrive simultaneously there.

lphoi2stalemate003.jpg

img008.jpg

Tripods attempted to break through Angers yet another time, but bravely, the UDMS-KKK forces, rather than giving up, launch a relentless counter-attack, showering tripods with artillery shells.

lphoi2stalemate004.jpg

Another tripod division is exterminated in the heart of Africa, the only front line that hasn't either broken down or stagnated. However, more enemies suddenly arrive at the lightly defended Central Africa while most forces were focusing on North Africa.

lphoi2stalemate005.jpg

An offensive that could have ensued an advance if successful ends instead in another failure, and disorganized, the soldiers fail to defend Bourdeaux. The enemy begins to gain ground.

lphoi2stalemate006.jpg

The only good news is that many enemy tripod divisions are severely understrength and about to be entirely wiped out in battle. However, the massive enemy numbers make chances of succeeding at major advances moot. A new beachhead must be opened, but there are not enough men for that, thus a million more soldiers is being trained back home to hopefully breach through the Balkans and Italy.

lphoi2stalemate007.jpg

After weeks of bloodshed, Saint-Etienne is at last secured. The battles in Europe resemble the battles fought during the Great War, and heavy losses are suffered by both sides.

lphoi2stalemate008.jpg

Dax is also threatened. Several counter-offensives begin against Auch in the hopes of reverting the situation.

lphoi2stalemate009.jpg

lphoi2stalemate010.jpg

And thus, Auch is at last secured, and hopefully shall be occupied before more enemy hordes approach.

lphoi2stalemate011.jpg

While soldiers at Nimes are sent to the sea to extend the front eastwards, which is the only direction seemingly not swarming with aliens, Nimes is threatened once again. A counter-offensive from Saint-Etienne begins, whie they bravely make their stand against the tripods and other enemy forces attacking.

lphoi2stalemate012.jpg

lphoi2stalemate013.jpg

Eventually the resistance of all attackers but the tripods is broken, and thus victory ensues, while the divisions from Saint-Etienne come in preparation for expanding the front lines eastwards, and once again more enemies come to Auch.

lphoi2stalemate014.jpg

Cadia_by_Stossetruppe.jpg

Reinforcements seriously hamper the once large chances of victory in Auch, but a great risk is taking in letting the offensive carry on, for technically the UDMS-KKK still had the upper hand.

lphoi2stalemate015.jpg

Marseille is thus secured, a lone tripod division defeated with success. Italy is the only way there is any hope of making progress through, but there is only that far that the forces can move without stretching the front lines way too thin. Reinforcements in the form of 17 divisions were coming from Amerikwa to the Mediterranean, but even with then, the situation was stagnating nevertheless.

lphoi2stalemate016.jpg

pict4965.jpg

The risk of maintaining the offensive at Auch always existed, but nobody expected such a blow. Now not only Bourdeaux was lost due to the unsuccessful offensives, but also Dax was lost. The situation was complicated, and Pau was only lightly defended.

lphoi2stalemate017.jpg

The small glimmer of hope, once again came from news of the east, near Italy. The front was successfully secured there, and soon Nice and Grenoble would be seized as well, to hopefully crush the mass of divisions holding Toulon through the overwhelming number of provinces the offensive would be launched from.

lphoi2stalemate018.jpg

An attempt of retaking Dax is launched, another offensive, more blood, maybe in vain, maybe not.

lphoi2stalemate019.jpg

lphoi2stalemate020.jpg

Toulon is under attack, and immediately a counter-offensive begins to hopefully drive the enemy away, despite the even numerical odds and the rivers. The toll of blood is massive, but the soldiers of the UDMS-KKK will not give up easily on the land they liberated from the invader.

lphoi2stalemate021.jpg

passchendaele-1.jpg

It has been months already, months of multiple enemy offensives against Angers, and death, and it never ended. They launched offensive over offensive, but this time, the odds were much, much worse for the defenders of Angers.

lphoi2stalemate022.jpg

To support these brave men, near a million of soldiers launch a counter offensive against Argentan, in spite of the massive numbers of enemy forces, they succeed at completely encircling them. This won't be an easy battle however. And if Angers is lost, Normandy may have to be evacuated.

lphoi2stalemate023.jpg

The attempt of retaking Dax ends as a failure due to additional enemy reinforcements. The front lines have shifted, but ultimately, went unchanged while yet another alien offensive at Angers happened.

lphoi2stalemate024.jpg

rapira4.jpg

The offensive against Angers hasn't stopped yet, when the flanking attack against Argentan begin to lose its momentum, but another carefully set ambush against the defenders is set up to hopefully buy more time for the defenders of Angers.

lphoi2stalemate025.jpg

dday_gal_caen.jpg

Then, to make the situation worse for Normandy, Caen is attacked, while the battle for Angers was still unresolved. And as predicted, Pau was under attack too. Four mountaineers fought bravely to defend it against the fury of the POPAMOLE in power armor.

lphoi2stalemate026.jpg

To relieve Pau, a counter-offensive is launched against Auch. It is unlikely to succeed, but it will indirectly support the defense of Pau.

lphoi2stalemate027.jpg

Trenches_mannerheim_line_winter_war.png

Cherbourg and Caen are abandoned, the front to be defended now reduced to only three provinces rather than four. The only good news was that although it did cost Caen, the counter-offensive to relieve the defenders of Angers worked, and once again, the front along the region suffer no changes and another enemy offensive fails. Intel suggests that the enemy has run out of reinforcements, and thus, eventually they will begin to break down, as evidenced by the number of understrength divisions they had. But millions of men would die in this bloody, stagnated attrition warfare in Europe.

lphoi2stalemate028.jpg

lphoi2stalemate029.jpg

Against all odds, the defenders of Pau emerge victorious. Although of a smaller scale, and although the attackers were seriously understrength, such battle won't be forgotten easily along the history of the War of the Worlds. What was bad in the Aquitaine front thus didn't become worse.

lphoi2stalemate030.jpg

It was Nine of August already, and the European front has stagnated along all sides but towards Italy, while over six divisions were surrounded by tripods and massacred along the evacuation of Scandinavia. The overall result was not a failure however: Spain has been successfully liberated. It was only a matter of time before the total liberation of Africa and blockade of the Mediterranean by the conquest of the Suez channel were accomplished.

Many challenges lied ahead, and the war would not end soon. Many more years could be required, many more sacrifices. But they will never give up.

Did the Aliens already run out of manpower? Or do they have fixed maximum IC expenditures on reinforcements? It's been only 2 months, the situation really isn't that bad. I'd guess that in a matter of 3 next months you'll grind them down in a war of attrition sufficiently to start gaining ground.

Yes, they've been short on MP for a long time. The fact last Intel's estimated 1400 divisions may have something to do with it.

As you may know, the game has been progressing incredibly slowly, as you might not know the war is turning out to be impossible to be won. And ultimately, the game has become no longer enjoyable.

Yes

:decline:

I created something too unbalanced, and I just lost the patience to carry on further because I just hate these stalemate WW1-esque frontlines with doomstacks. But look at the good side: Like I promised, this won't be the last Hearts of Iron 2 LP I'm making, just the last one with vanilla.

Epilogue(the real one)

If you have ADD, just read the large font texts. And it will be full of lulz and wat.

postwarworld.png

Eventually, an unofficial cease-fire happened as neither side has managed to defeat the other anymore, and the aliens stopped their attacks by 1948, seemingly satisfied with what they managed to hold.

The remnants of the Dutch and French Colonial Empire, New Zealand, and Ireland(after some "incentive") have formed together with Britain a new multinational state called United Kingdoms of Earth. The United Kingdoms of Earth was the second most powerful nation left, and reconstruction and industrialization of the Pacific, Australia and New Zealand, where many refugees lived now and the density of the population skyrocketed, made them eventually become not so distant from the UDMSE in their economical power. Although, differently from the UDMSE, the United Kingdoms of Earth suffer from severe and increasing inequalities between the wealthy Britain, Australia and New Zealand and the poor, Thirdworldia rated Ireland and Pacific island chains, causing signficant tensions between them.

The few islands stranded in the alien-dominated Mediterranean formed the Mediterranean Confederation, which lacks a leading country amidst so many rump states, and is if anything, worth as much of a footnote in History as Bulgaria and Soviet Union or more exactly, what is left of them. Strangely, the Vraca pocket, sustained by the few industries in the region, survived for years and years to come, while the enemy demonstrated absolutely no interest to finish off the last remnants of the Soviet Union, a frozen shithole with almost nothing in Siberia was everything left of the once glorious Soviet. Another nation of little relevance, but that somehow survived due to the strange alien behavior of not having any will to attack them, is the newly formed Arab Federation, with rumps of Saudi Arabia, Oman and Yemen.

neotokyo.jpg

Japan became an autonomous member of the UDMS-KKK in 1947. Ruled by Ludwig von Mises as the first president, it became the testing grounds for several lolbertarian and Austrian economics principles.

541px-Location_Antarctica.svg.png

Germany was "reestablished" in Antarctica as another shithole. However, they hoped one day to make a great discovery in those frozen wastes that would allow for the new Kaiser to recover the lost glory of the II Reich not in this planet, but in the stars. Maybe an ancient UFO crash, maybe the lost city of Atlantis, or maybe... some Prisoners of Ice and horribly dubbed Germans speaking in English with the worst forced accent ever.

amerika.jpg

And what about the UDMS-KKK?

The United Democratic Multinational States of all Kwanzanias had several border changes between its member nations, based upon ethnic composition changes of regions. The island of Hispaniola and Eastern Canada became the United French States, for the joy of the survivors of Quebec. The rest of Canada was merged with the rest of the United States that were not settled by Poles, leading to the formation to its territorially largest member-nation, the United States of Kwanzania(USK). However, it was also the least populated, due to the devastation the war and ITZ brought to Kwanzania, and it would be decades before it could regain the same glory and prosperity it had before the war.

After the failure of the liberation of Europe, leading to loss of hundreds of thousands of lives in vain, only Spain, parts of Southern France and Italy were secured. With the reformation of the Republican Spain, the United Democratic Multinational States of all Kwanzanians became the United Democratic Multinational States of Earth, as an intercontinental State.

After its successful liberation, countless of both whites and niggahs returned to their now lifeless home to rebuild civilization. They created the African Union, which would eventually climb to become the most powerful member of the UDMSE, specially due to their control over the Suez Channel.

Mexico and most of the Central America were joined into the Caribbean Hispanic Federation. Although they remain the poorest nation of the UDMSE, thanks to the Law of Possession, they are going through the fastest industrial development among all nations.

316vl80.jpg

The man responsible for the Law of Possession.

The Law of Possession was created and approved by the UDMSE monocameral Congress to solve the serious problem of the fact that, for ther first time, there was an overabundance of unoccupied property and infrastructure, and the threat that a single person claiming too much of them would pose to the economical future of the nation. A very polemic law, the law of possession does not recognize properties claimed that a person is not currently using and are out of the personal realm, like for example, several houses, apartments and so on. Landlords, loaners, bankers and others deemed as parasites by the majority of the society were enraged, as they used their Jewgold to conspire against such act. It was clearly stated that in such dire circumstances, there will be no tolerance for economic activities deemed as entirely parasitical and improductive like loaning, financial speculation and hoarding. The government took a wide turn to the Left wing after this law, although effective market regulations still did not exist, and a welfare system would not be implemented.

However, ironically, the law of Possession created one of the most competitive free markets ever seen. As nobody was allowed to take more than one factory, once great corporations were split between several small businesses, many which sold products that were very similar to each other. With money confiscated from the supposed New World Order and from supposed conspirators of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, the government funded a heavy and decentralized industrialization program, as the minister of economy, chosen due to his high skills despite his ideological radicalism, was obviously favoring workers cooperatives. Claims that the so called Illuminati controlled the large corporations of the old also served to push such agenda of intense decentralization of economical power.

The 1950s in America would feature an economy similar to that of the 1800s United States. Far more competition, no nearly monopolistic megacorporations and a far greater amount of self-employed individuals and businessmen than ever seen before, with deals of cooperation between them here and there and no opportunity for Jewish CEOs.

Although a few were left in the gutter, the general overview was that the blame was on their own, because educational reforms made it totally impossible for someone to fail unless he wanted to.

The strange economic model praticed in the UDMSE at the same time broke down the power of the old elites(most of them were dead anyway), but did not forbid people from trying to become wealthier, as long as they do not "become way too powerful to represent a threat to the freedom of the people", according to political rhetoric, and lacked a welfare system. Being self-employed was continually encouraged by the government as well. The heavy competition led to a far more dynamic free market, and boosted technological advance.

Australia became a member of the UDMSE, ruled with the wisdom and >180 IQ of Cleveland Mark Blakemore, it became a full-fledged survivalist society, completely prepared for the next time ITZ COMING!

A recent member of the UDMSE, the New Scandinavia, formed after a through industrialization plan in Greenland and Iceland, is not the largest member, but on the other hand, features the best standards of life of the entire Kwanzania. It is still a polemic matter, but considering all that happened in the world, Iceland is treated as part of America rather than as part of Europe.

All the Spanish-speaking countries in South America, except for Peru and other countries that received large influxes of Polish immigrants, merged into the Union Suramericana(South-American Union). However, there is a strong spirit of national secession between the highly industrialized and European south and the currently poor, agrarian and mostly Amerindian North, of which parts also desire to merge with Brazil, and it will difficult for this state-member of the UDMS-KKK to stick together.

The country that suffered the least amount of changes in its geopolitical landscape was Brazil, due to the fact it is the only Portuguese-speaking country in America. Gaining a considerable population boost from several European and African refugees, specially Portuguese, the country was going through a very steady industrialization proccess through the end of the 1940s, and had the chance to become among the 3 most industrialized and economically developed nation-members of the UDMS-KKK, together with the Polish Confederation of America. A position they competed for with the Caribbean Hispanic Federation and the Union Suramericana.

1949: United Kingdoms of Earth is merged with the UDMSE as the Space Age begins

John Kennedy, president of Kwanzania, speaks to the manboons about the Space

943531-madmaxanddog_super.jpg

Dogmeat, the first living being from Earth sent to space.

Thanks in part to the first results of reverse-engineering of captured alien technology, and in part also to previous researches of rocketry done in Earth, the climb to space begun a little earlier, as UDMSE, certain of the existence of planets of livable conditions for human beings through the galaxy, began to develop space flight technologies. In 1949, the first satellite in Earth's orbit was launched, and soon the UDMSE would also start her expansion and militarization through the space, this time not restricted by faggot treaties, because no atomic weapons were ever invented in this timeline.

:incline:

polesinspace.jpg

11th of November of 1957: Poles land on the Moon

Several satellites, animals and random stuff launched into space later, in 1957, the Polish Confederation of America began the Apollo Mission in partnership with the United States of Kwanzania as they lacked a proper launch site near the equator and borrowed Cape Canaveral for it, and in 11th of November of 1957, the Polish-American astronaut -insert name here- was the first man to step on the Moon.

This was the greatest moment in the history of the New Poland during the 1950s, and also the greatest moment in the history of mankind.

1961: Arab Federation and Mediterranean Confederation join the UDMSE, Soviet Union and Bulgaria destroyed by aliens

1961 would be one of the most important years in the history of humanity. It would be a year of tragedies, but also a year where the idea of the nation as a State finally crumbled, and all corners of Earth inhabited by human beings now were united towards a single culture, language and State: the UDMSE has truly become a world government, thus.

1962: Polish scientists invest a method of faster-than-light space travel. The Insterstellar age of Man begins

The only good thing about the alien invasion was that it has virtually sidestepped almost a century of technological development through continuous reverse-engineering of many captured alien devices of several different types, and thus it was a common knowledge that the technological level of the time was assumed to be close to how technology would be in 2062 had such tragic events never happened. Although the UDMSE still preferred ballistic weapons over all the fancy, now known lasers, they were close to develop their first gauss guns by then. However, the greatest discovery of the time was made by a scientist named Andrej Stanislaw, who invented the Aperture Space drive, a handwavium that allows for instant travel between two points in space. Thus, soon, crudely made spacecrafts, including even a space bus, were tested with it. And it succeeded.

Thus mankind has managed to explore the inner areas of other solar systems first than the other planets in Sol, left behind as worthless piles of uninhabitable rock. A new age began for mankind, but while Hippies and Woodstock were coming, were they really ready in mind for the greatest adventure humanity has ever started under the guidance UDMSE

Or not...

I decided to carry on, but I'd like for anyone who'd be glad to see this thread active again to answer this question: would you rather for future updates(besides the two next ones), to have more of a written overview of the bogged down West European Front and focus mostly on the more dynamic African Front? In any case I should've waited to raise the divisions to at least 800 before doing this, and researched proper naval techs to build a massive fleet, but now it's going to progress with what is available.

To establish a line in Aquitaine

Soundtrack

lphoi2foraquitaine001.jpg

The enemy begins to push strongly against the front lines. Major offensives they launch against two important positions, and in Saint-Etienne, the situation seems impossible to revert. The immediate retreat is ordered, with many heading for Toulouse as well,

In spite of how seemingly hopeless the chances of breaking the alien's offensive in Toulouse were. For they fought expecting nothing less than victory, regardless of it, and they resisted fiercely as a massive legion charged against the region, including once again the tripods. They struggled bravely, and never gave up on this. Many died, and the neverending stalemate could either carry on or break.

lphoi2foraquitaine003.jpg

While the battle of Toulouse carried on, with the failure of the operation in Scandinavia, realizing the threat of mighty enemy fleets, instead of returning home, they do the most daring action one could ever think of: to launch a new diversionary strike, even deeper behind enemy lines, through the former soviet harbor of Archangelsk, which hopefully would be undefended.

lphoi2foraquitaine004.jpg

Thanks to their unwavering determination, in a battle that once seemed lost, the brave men defending Toulouse succeeded as the enemy divisions were crushed and driven back, their organization depleted. The loss of Saint-Etienne seemed near permanent as legions encroached, but this victory, it meant much as a very ambitious plan was being prepared, a plan involving the Air Marines.

lphoi2foraquitaine005.jpg

As the night came in the 11th of August of 1946, another massive airborne operation commenced, and brave men prepared to make their stand behind enemy lines. The Air Marines, in their utmost courage, have immediately dissuaded the enemy from attacking, and now everything was ripe for potentially encircling many of the enemy forces in these front lines, while bombers bravely attempt to finish the extermination of a nearly wiped out tripod division.

lphoi2foraquitaine006.jpg

In spite of their numerical superiority, the offensive against Auch would be a tough one. For it was defended only by powerful main battle tanks and tripods, However, a chance of victory existed as the bold Air Marines supported this attack from behind enemy lines. The battle would be extremely challenging, and anti-tank guns would be put to their test here, in a heavily forested environment to make things even more difficult.

lphoi2foraquitaine007.jpg

To ensure no flanking attacks would happen, another offensive is launched against Dax near simultaneously with the attack against Auch. The odds are unclear for now, and it becomes a difficult battle. Bordeaux would be a much better defensive position than the existing ones along this front, and if it could be secured long enough for a massive line of fortifications to be built all along, it would become possible to ship most of the divisions currently operating in these front lines to open a new front line, giving a new breath to the currently stagnated European front.

lphoi2foraquitaine008.jpg

The offensive at Dax, intended as purely diversionary to tie up enemy forces that could otherwise counter-attack or reinforce Auch, proves far more successful than intended, and soon Bourdeaux shall be merged with the rest of the Southern European front. Also, perhaps, from Bourdeaux a race could work to unite the Brittany front lines with them. Then three Tripods attempt to hold Dax. And thus it begins, but things turn out differently.

lphoi2foraquitaine009.jpg

Two entire tripod divisions were completely obliterated, and the last one left was soon to either meet the same fate or retreat. Their losses, being unrecoverable, were also of immense strategic importance in this war. How far could they push before everything stagnated again?

The answer was bleak: soon a flanking attack from the north against the Air Marines in Bordeaux compromised entirely the attack against Auch, forcing it to be stopped. And a rescue fleet raced to save them before they were wiped out by the aliens. They fought bravely, hoping for this help, and it would come in time, or at least it looked like it would.

That is, until a damn harassment flotilla came to delay the unescorted transports, and with no chance of naval superiority, things were becoming clearer now.

lphoi2foraquitaine010.jpg

Bordeaux would become the greatest military disaster of this bleak 1946 since the complete annihilation of the UDMS-KKK surface fleet. Hundreds of thousands of Air Marines answered their final duty. The enemy was growing more and more numberful, and slowly the windows of opportunity to advance became narrower and narrower, and soon these opportunities would become nonexistent in Europe. It was clear that many more millions of soldiers would be necessary to win this war, that the aliens would have to be pressured through even more fronts.

They will never be forgotten

:salute:

In face of this tragedy, immediately a program to field more hundreds of thousands of Air Marines is initiated. This was a major drawback, but it would not break the hopes of all these millions of men struggling bravely in Europe for mankind and freedom.

lphoi2foraquitaine011.jpg

Seeing a weakness, it becomes clear Caen might be retaken yet. And thus once again blood flows over Normandy, but it was mostly a totally stagnated front, and they would never managed to break through such forces there, unless somehow the southern forces succeeded at securing as far north as Cholet, merging both fronts.

lphoi2foraquitaine012.jpg

As Baneblades advance towards Caen, news come of major problems in the operation to land in Arkhangelsk, but instead of giving up, they attempt to outmaneuver the alien flotilla and lure it into an iceberg. Heading back west could put them right next to a megafleet of doom and lead to another tragedy.

lphoi2foraquitaine013.jpg

In North Africa, one more tripod divisions occupies Forte Capuzzo, as Baneblades maneuver to encircle them. The race for Suez is getting close to its end, and the conflict here didn't reach a stalemate although many forces were currently recovering their organization in West and South Africa.

lphoi2foraquitaine014.jpg

And now, another Tripod division heads as well for Forte Capuzzo, as an offensive against their position fails. Once it arrives there, however, there will be a chance at encircling it.

lphoi2foraquitaine015.jpg

Soon it becomes clear the front has been stretched too much eastwards, as Nice falls, and not soon after, Marseille also is under attack. They will have to fall back to a smaller front line in the hopes of halting this dangerous enemy advance.

lphoi2foraquitaine016.jpg

lphoi2foraquitaine017.jpg

300px-Scinfaxiafrica.jpg

The Battle of Tobruk begins as two infantry divisions with anti-tank brigades attempt to bravely hold their ground against two tripod divisions, and a massive flanking attack from several sides is launched to support them. Meanwhile, Caen is secured for now. However, capturing Argentan as well would be important. And such was the plan, to return the front to how it was before.

lphoi2foraquitaine018.jpg

Unfortunately the defense of Tobruk falters against such a mighty enemy, but their encirclement might still be successful. However, most of the gains eastwards in southern France are compromised as the enemy proves that they are too numberful to be held. Perhaps the sheer majority of the alien forces could be in Europe right now, which meant also that the rest of Eurasia would be ripe for the taking... if holding what was secured wasn't taking every man available already.

lphoi2foraquitaine019.jpg

:salute:

The transport ship crews also performed their final duty, buying just enough time for the port of Archangelsk to be secured. Many died for this, but the surviving forces in Scandinavia would for now be safely on shore, and the entire neighboring region seemed to be completely undefended. Perhaps they could reach Moscow, perhaps... mobility would be key here to avoid a bad outcome.

lphoi2foraquitaine020.jpg

It became clear they'd have to retreat back to the west of the Loire. Things were becoming slowly more complex. Hopefully it would still be possible to secure Bordeaux to compensate for all these losses of ground.

lphoi2foraquitaine021.jpg

The bravery of these men won't be forgotten. Their victory over Bordeaux was a major feat, reducing the distance between the Normandy front and the South European front to only two provinces, it could perhaps allow both fronts to be merged.

lphoi2foraquitaine022.jpg

The offensive on Argentan is launched as well, and at first victory seemed a possibility as near a million of soldiers advanced against the enemy.

I forgot to check this battle while other battles were happening in multiple other parts of this multi-front war, I'm not save/load game whoring and well, you'll see.

lphoi2foraquitaine023.jpg

The enemy attempts to halt the advance towards Bordeaux but fails. Things seem to be going in a bright way towards the complete liberation of Aquitaine now. However, sooner or later the front lines would stagnate.

lphoi2foraquitaine024.jpg

leman_russ_bt_smoking_barrel_by_arkurion-d34ff7x.png

Immediately as the enemies are cut off from their supply lines in North Africa, the offensive against Forte Capuzzo and then Tobruk begins. Leman Russ tanks and Baneblades advance forward through the desert, supported by infantry forces. And no, no power armors, only their courage. Victory was however uncertain.

lphoi2foraquitaine025.jpg

With the arrival of new forces in Tolouse, and the recovery of organization that happened along many days, a new offensive is immediately launched against Auch while many forces, including the veterans of the Polish Home Army who fought since 1939, advanced toward Bordeaux. Once again, their numerical superiority could be deceiving against such a technologically advanced enemy, and upon this battle the liberation of Aquitaine depended. Victory would be a hopeful outcome to compensate for the territorial losses to the east, while effectively pushing the enemy back without increasing the size of the front to be defended.

450_cp_tank_leopard_061202.jpg

These men fought against only technologically advanced tanks and Tripods once again, and this battle, in spite of the numerical superiority of the UDMS-KKK, would be anything but easy.

=======

Happy 2011.

And to remind you: would you rather for the updates to continue to detail battles in-depth no matter how stagnated things seem, or to concentrate on the more dynamic theaters like Africa and only describe the battles in Europe until a miracle allows for a major breakthrough against the aliens?

PS: The real reason for this is that Rat Diplomacy's difficulty has scaled down considerably and it is going to be an easy game compared to this thread.

OMG, Sweet Mother of Mercy ITZ alive again

Normally I would go for the European Front with all its nostalgia factor, historic importance for our commander etc.

But since things got bogged down there I think African one could prove more interesting, provided of course that you won't steamroll xenu... too soon.

Since you're going to be steamrolling over most everything after a year or so might as well focus on the African front.

Yes, Africa seems to be faster until you can actually get from the European Bog Down.
