I thought the Spanish / Souther French invasion force was much smaller.

The burden of defending Normandy

Theme

Another tripod attempts to break through Argentan, strangely and fortunately without any other kind of support. A battle thus happens, but it seems certain that the enemy will lose due to the well positioned anti-tank and numerical superiority of the defenders.

lphoi2france023.jpg

Meanwhile, Air superiority is sought deep within enemy territory, as an entire wing of strategic bombers is throughly annihilated, having no escorts and being outnumbered.

lphoi2france024.jpg

With all the soldiers and armors of Ghent properly evacuated, plans are traced to push them even deeper behind enemy lines, with the goal of drawing away the attention of the enemy.

lphoi2france025.jpg

Multiple Tripods are driven away from Perpignan, the Southern France front lines will soon be merged with the Iberian ones.

lphoi2france026.jpg

The_Martian_Line__Sepiatone_by_LancerAdvanced.jpg

The struggle for Gafsa carries on, in spite of the small chances of victory. However, a new problem arises. The plans of opening a new front in the heart of Germany are interrupted, thus the fleets are ordered to run for the English Channel while the last remnants of the battlefleets prepare to make their stand.

By then, the Battle of Gafsa was already taking a near entire week. Reinforcements were coming to support the defense of this region, but would they arrive soon enough?

lphoi2france027.jpg

wwii-cookbook-2_786197c.jpg

After weeks of struggle, Gafsa is at last secured, and thus, with this key victory in North Africa, it will now become possible to push forward all the way to Suez. The AfrikaKKKorps once again prove their worth.

lphoi2france028.jpg

tripodsmeatloaf.jpg

In the mountains of the Pyrenees, a bloody battle begins for the town of Pau. The Tripod is a very difficult enemy to dislodge from mountains. Things were simpler in the Atlas Mountains only because of the organization losses from their long marches through horrible infrastructure conditions. Meanwhile, with great sacrifices, the chasers of the transports which evacuated Ghent are stopped. May the brave sailors never be forgotten.

lphoi2france029.jpg

In 24th of June, everything was ready to exterminate eleven enemy divisions, including several tripods, in the battle of Brest. The UDMS-KKK soldiers did not have a staggering numerical advantage, only the advantage of the brave flyboys who risked themselves to attack the dreaded tripods with thermobaric bombs.

lphoi2france030.jpg

Meanwhile, as a vulnerability was shown through recon, an attempt to break through Cholet begins by predominantly South Kwanzanian soldiers among the UDMS-KKK expeditionary forces.

lphoi2france031.jpg

However, the enemy forces, commanded by Vault Dweller, pose an unbreakable barrier, and the front stagnates while men lose their will to fight, but mindless alien war machines don't. The situation becomes much worse, but there is still a glimmer of victory.

lphoi2france032.jpg

In the southern European front, while the battle of Pau continued, the tripod division refusing to retreat in spite of suffering heavy losses, the Ultramarines secured Saint-Etienne.

lphoi2france033.jpg

In 25th of June, at 20:00 hours, the Battle of Brest was over. Brittany has been completely liberated from the alien, and now, all left to do was for the attackers to regroup to the primary front lines in Normandy. However, not all were good news. With the arrival of a large swath of reinforcements, any dreams of victory in Cholet were crushed.

lphoi2france034.jpg

While the forces involved in this attack would now be vulnerable to a counter offensive. For the burden of defending Normandy was a heavy one, against such a powerful and numberful enemy force. Scary legions marched through the ruins of Paris, and the enemy seemed to have incredibly massive numbers all through the Northern front.

Battle of Angers

lphoi2france035.jpg

lphoi2france036.jpg

BattleOfCaen1.JPG

As predicted, the enemy immediately attempts to crush the front lines by launching an offensive against the weakened Angers. With no better option, a flanking counter-offensive is the only way to have a chance of preventing such dreadsome legion of tripods from ruining the entire operation.

Aerial recon confirmed that the enemy advances on Cholet left Le Mans, one of the areas from where the attack against Angers happened, relatively poorly defended, thus, rather than waiting, an immediate flanking counter-offensive begins to hopefully not only break the attack against Angers, but also ideally expand the front lines towards Le Mans while they can. The situation seems favorable, for not so soon the enemy forces end completely encircled, in spite of five tripod divisions. This was still a very difficult offensive, and casualties were high, and if Angers fell, it would be for naught.

lphoi2france037.jpg

bsoldiers.jpg

Led by Mascarenhas de Morais, one of the men who commanded the unified South Amerikwan forces defending their countries from the alien invasion that started in Buenos Aires, during a time South Amerikwa was the last hope of humanity, these men were a true proof of the truly multinational aspect of the UDMS-KKK, for among them at least five different languages were spoken and twenty nationalities existed, with, after a arguably polemic decision of the military, Latin becoming the "official language" of the UDMS-KKK military forces due to its complete neutrality in regards to modern spoken languages.

Of course, such small detail would lead to much greater ramifications in the grimdark far future, but for now, it was just a detail along many other quirks of this unique force that fought with much bravery and determination, in spite of the enemy have advanced through more than half of Angers.

lphoi2france038.jpg

Two hours later, both battles reach a stalemate, while the weaker enemy divisions begin to become completely disorganized and unable to fight. Angers is bravely defended, but unless a decisive push is achieved, they won't be able to keep firing forever because unlike the enemies, they were human beings. And thus the enemy began to push them further away from Angers, and the situation was worsening. Reinforcements were on the way, but would these brave, mostly South Kwanzanian soldiers hold the line for long enough?

lphoi2france039.jpg

battlefield40kmod1.jpg

Finally the first reinforcements came. Leman Russ tanks from the 1st ITZ Assault Corps, they bravely advanced under fire and struggled in the most vulnerable areas of the front during the battle. Could they make a difference? Would victory be ensured in Angers?

lphoi2france040.jpg

Meanwhile, other Leman Russ tanks advanced towards the desert of Sahara as part of a plan to completely encircle the tripod division whose attempt to break through Gafsa has failed after a long and bloody battle. The advance also continues through the North African front, and soon it shall resemble the same front during the 1940s of the Second World War from another timeline. Would there be several Tripods awaiting in Tobruk? There is no way to know before ITZ comes.

lphoi2france041.jpg

504x_tripodsfront.jpg

June 27, 1946. In spite of several reinforcements, the Battle of Angers continued undecided, and still had equal chances of victory or defeat for the UDMS-KKK. The outcome would decide forever the fate of Normandy. Thus, once morning comes, this could be the end, or the beginning of the road to victory.

What was wrong with the latest update? Is this getting too slow to progress? It is inevitable when updating a LP of HoI2 about a conflict fought over multiple fronts, against large stacks of enemies, and specially when the game itself has reached snail's speed.

In any case, I'm not going to post any further update without at least someone commenting.[/dramawhore]

Dont worry, it is just a question of how far you make it before the offensive stalls.

Nothing wrong with anything. I follow this LP and find it pretty interesting, it's just that I'm more of a lurker than a spambot.

It seems the thick of the enemy forces are gathering more towards Normandy than towards Spain. When you manage to unite both front it should provide some ground to, at least, boost morale to keep pushing to the northeast. I wonder while there are still human provinces there untouched by the aliens.

Are you building up forces back in the Americas to continually reinforce the Europe liberation front? The performance of those heavy tanks is proving to be a worthwhile investment and since this seems to be an always war scenario..

Even more reinforcements arrive at Angers, yet the battle seems far from over. The way the front is starting to advance in Normandy begins to resemble the bloody stalemate of the Great War, with a great cost in human lives to hold the ground that was secured. And right now, all these sacrifices could be in vain, if Angers fell.

lphoi2france043.jpg

Meanwhile, a tripod division continued to advance through the heart of Africa, soon it would come the time to have a chance at stopping it, for those nine divisions stationed at Gashaka. If they manage to stop it, with the eventual arrival of reinforcements, encircling this lone tripod would be possible, and like all others, this would be a loss the enemy wouldn't be able recover.

lphoi2france044.jpg

polishspacemarine.jpg

With the arrival of the Fire Lords Air Marines chapter, the long battle of Angers is finally over. Not only this very important victory have secured the Normandy front lines, but also opened a very good chance to break through Le Mans. Immediatelly all defenders of Angers are ordered on the offensive against Le Mans.

lphoi2france045.jpg

Victory seems close in the counter-offensive turned successful against Le Mans. Every territory secured against such massive enemy forces is a very important step taken in the long road to Warsaw and even Vladivostok. However, managing to hold Le Mans once and if it is secured would be a much greater challenge.

lphoi2france046.jpg

Spain is almost entirely free from alien presence. The trust in the capability of the UDMS-KKK securing permanently Iberia was such that many Spaniards and Portuguese who took refuge in Kwanzania were heading back home. For better or worse, as soon as the ghosts of the Old World nations were secured, the survivors who once lived in them would return.

http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/981/lphoi2france047.jpg/img]

[img]http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/4703/lphoi2france048.jpg

Then things get much worse in Le Mans. With the arrival of more tripods as enemy reinforcements, what once looked like a certain victory is now a complete failure, another bloody offensive stalls, like the many operations fought during the First World War. Breaking through Normandy was seemingly an impossible mission.

lphoi2france049.jpg

Hoping to establish a southern front line very close to Normandy, opening a chance to cut off large swathes of the enemy from supplies, a new amphibious assault begins against Bordeaux with heavy air support, while the Ultramarines attack Tripods at Saint-Etienne.

lphoi2france050.jpg

BloodRavens.jpg

lphoi2france051.jpg

And thus the Air Marines secure Saint Etienne, after a victorious offensive against tripods. Their courage and might in the battlefield are unparalleled by any other kind of infantry force. The enemy's attempt to retake Saint-Etienne fails. It is good to see that in spite of the bloody stalemate at Normandy, greater successes are happening to the South, in places like Southern France and Bordeaux, and speaking about it:

lphoi2france052.jpg

aircraft-carrier-35.jpg

The Amphibious landing is ruined by the arrival of another massive carrier fleet. Immediately the retreat order is given, but some ships will have to stay behind to buy time for the others to escape.

lphoi2france053.jpg

:salute:

Immediately the fleet is ordered to dock at Nantes. It is clear how it is totally impossible to conduct amphibious operations without a Navy. And the UDMS-KKK will probably only be able to build one by the next decade. The aerial transports the Air Marines would usually resort to tend to take too long to reorganize fully for the air drops to be useful, for now, but eventually more airdrops would begin, possibly by the next month.

lphoi2france054.jpg

talvisota.jpg

Tripods advance against the recently secured Kajaani. The defenders don't give up, knowing more will come soon. With the sisu of this land, they demonstrate the same level of bravery of those led by Mannerheim who managed to halt tripods at the far north, just in time for the UDMS-KKK to evacuate them.

lphoi2france055.jpg

The complete liberation of Spain is now a matter of time only, while Kajaani is successfully secured, and thus the Scandinavian front continues to be feature by mostly successful advances.

lphoi2france056.jpg

The extermination procedure carries on, no quarters shall be given to the xenos.

lphoi2france057.jpg

The moment of the decisive battle in Central Africa is nigh. The Tripods advance against Gashaka. Nine divisions attempt to hold their ground, Artillery rains from the skies, and tropical woods are toppled by the war machines attempting to annihilate or break the resolve of those brave infantrymen and anti-tank crews.

lphoi2france058.jpg

Yet, after two hours of battle, victory ensues, and the tripod division is completely halted, for now. The potential of encirclement is there, if properly exploited.

lphoi2france059.jpg

The enemy is completely pocketed within Spain. Timid Republican Spain flags wave over the recently liberated city of Barcelona as many await for the decision of the UDMS-KKK in regards to the fate of Iberia, and to what they intend to do now that their hands shall guide the fate of Europe and Africa as well as Kwanzania. The decision made on such a relatively small part of the whole that is Iberia shall echo through history and the far future.

lphoi2france060.jpg

Meanwhile, Pau is also secured, pushing the front forwards through the Pyrenees. Aerial recon information however is frightening: there are potentially several millions of enemy forces gathered in France, and gigantic formations marched from Paris and the center of the continent. There was a certain fear about such numbers, for it became clearer how high the stakes were.

lphoi2france061.jpg

Once Kandalaksja is secured, a large swath of alien forces will be pocketed to the northeast. Strangely, it was left completely undefended.

lphoi2france062.jpg

A probing attack was sent to gauge the strength of the enemy forces at Cholet. When they were identified, it became clear how there were no chances of breaking through there.

And thus, the month of June was over. Normandy was secured but the entire front stagnated. To the south and near Iberia, there were greater successes, while the advance on North Africa proceeded. A very scary number of aliens potentially millions, advanced from the heart of France to meet the patriots. Defeatist French generals in Quebec were already claiming victory is impossible, but nobody would give ears to them.

Meanwhile, a new battle of Argentan was already beginning...

Iberia is nearly secure.

Maybe you could attempt to take Italy as it seems Normandy is bogging down enemy units.

Nuke them into oblivion.

Like in Worldwar? But Worldwar sucks. No, I'll first try to beat the game without nuclear weapons, and besides I restricted the alien invaders AI to not use them(they nuked Leningrad and Frunze before that) as to avoid a fate of inevitable defeat(otherwise the entire world would be reduced to cinders), thus using them would be cheating in the first place.

This looks like a fucking rapesquad of doom

As long as most of it stays inland rather than on shore, it will be vulnerable to encirclement, but in any case it won't be easy.

Normandy, the new Verdun

40k music

lphoi2france063.jpg

Steadily, the defenders of Argentan are ready and face the enemy with courage and honor. No matter how much it costs, Normandy shall never fall again, and even though it seems it shall become the scenery of a conflict similar to the bloody stalemate of the First World War, they shall neither waver or fail.

lphoi2france064.jpg

frshot01-jpg.jpeg

lphoi2france065.jpg

No matter the cost, no inch of ground shall the enemy take over. With both sides equally strong in numbers and unwilling to concede defeat, this front line seemed to have completely stagnated with the exception of a new potential advance through Le Mans. Through land men shall fight and die.

lphoi2france066.jpg

p47gabbygabreski.jpg

Through air, however, the flyboys emerged triumphant. Over the skies of the French ghost cities and derelict farms the UDMS-KKK legends reigned undisputed in their supremacy, and warned all of the massive enemy formations they have spotted. There was a faith, unjustified faith in victory among the men, in spite of such numbers.

lphoi2france067.jpg

For several weeks, the region of Pau has been disputed in bloody battles against the Tripods, but after much sacrifice and determination, the enemy resistance was being broken. One small step forward, but not one step back!

lphoi2france068.jpg

mannerheim.jpg

40kUltramarinesSquadAthenaTactic-4.jpg

winter-war-2.jpg

The Finns proved themselves in the field of battle, and thus, Ultramarines coupled with Mannerheim's soldiers make for the most powerful and prestigious combined infantry force one could ever dream of. Their task right now is the least dangerous and deadly, and the enemies they face much less powerful than the masses around Normandy, but that may change soon. Meanwhile, the enemy divisions abandon Le Mans and expose it to a new attempt of securing it.

lphoi2france069.jpg

mission_accomplished.jpg

After such a long and bloody battle, Le Mans is at last secured. Soon 40 divisions shall arrive and ensure the front is extended further at a great cost, once again.

lphoi2france070.jpg

0.jpg

Then, along the good news of the battered tripod division being at last driven away from Pau, came the bad news: the enemy once again launched their legions to crush the front: a humongous legion of five tripod divisions marching towards Nantes and leaving nothing but death and destruction behind. Thus, Le Mans cannot received 40 divisions to secure, for many will have to be redeployed towards Nantes before it is too late.

lphoi2france072.jpg

Meanwhile, all alien forces pocketed in Spain are at last wiped out. Many divisions in Iberia are redeployed to Southern France, while a few stay for mopping up and liberating territories. The Finns also safely arrive at Lyon, securing it as another of the small territorial gains in this struggle.

lphoi2france073.jpg

17-mitailleurgroep-verdun.jpg

Reinforcements arrive to Nantes just in time to avoid the disaster. The battle is bloody, and many have died to hold the line. Fortunately not in vain, for it looked like the tide was turning.

lphoi2france074.jpg

lphoi2france075.jpg

At a great cost, Nantes was secured. However, this enemy offensive effectively reduced much the chances of the victory over Le Mans becoming definitive. In such strategic goal, the enemy unfortunately will probably succeed, meaning once again a static and bloody maintenance of attrition warfare, while the lack of naval superiority severely restricted any operations but those ongoing within the Mediterranean.

lphoi2france076.jpg

Counter-offensives are done in the small hopes of securing Le Mans. But it is the 20th Century, and there is only War.

lphoi2france079.jpg

Research is conducted to relieve growing logistical burdens from the multiple front lines being held by the UDMS-KKK into several continents.

lphoi2france077.jpg

Initially there was a strong possibility of victory, and odds were similar.

lphoi2france078.jpg

However, the presence of tripods fated Le Mans to an inevitably tragic end. All those men who died for this piece of land, all those lives, they were for nothing. The futility of this struggle, the complete static of the front, everything once again remembered the days of the Great War and the Battle of Radom and Kielce during the 1939s. The front hasn't changed much in Normandy, by this 6th of July.

lphoi2france080.jpg

The good news came from Iberia and Southern France, in spite of a much greater number of enemy forces encroaching. It was here that the war for Europe would truly be decided, for Normandy seemed doomed to be a potentially stagnated front line for a long, long time.

lphoi2france081.jpg

In North Africa the advances carried on, while a tripod division was about to be completely encircled, and another one was strategically in a disadvantage as well. The performance of the remaining AfrikaKKKorps has been commendable, even though the enemy has either mostly forsaken the defense of Africa or concentrated most of it in Morocco, where they were wiped out, considering the level of resistance found so far.

Normandy has succeeded in one thing however: drawing the sheer majority of the enemy forces towards them, and for 30 days, defending themselves against such unsurmountable odds. Their struggle would still be remembered: the brave Sp... Air Marines who survived Amsterdam and Ghent, the victory over an assault of nine tripod divisions, a feat deemed totally impossible not so long ago. Normandy was the ground of legends, the greatest burden for all UDMS-KKK.

The men who died on the beaches and fields of France shall never be forgotten.

With Iberia liberated the aliens in Normandy risk their butts in another front. Things are looking interesting for the immediate future.

I must have missed something, but it seems like the aliens have overwhelming manpower, and are technologically advanced. How are you beating any of their stacks?

(I tried to play HOI2 but was confused. Maybe I'll try again)

I did not comment because of internet breakdown I experienced recently.

Well, I wouldn't call the situation in France similar to the one from WW1. I see it rather as an epic effort to hold off vastly superior enemy force. :salute:

One of the recent posters asked, how can UMDS-KKK win any battles while the enemy has superiority in numbers and technology. I'd say it's because the aliens lack the brains when it comes to strategy.

EDIT: New page. Woo!

As for a question about building up more divisions: Last time I checked "You need 342* manpower to reinforce fully your divisions", which was predicted, and why I mostly stopped building more divs with the exception of a long-term batch of 6 parallel lines of Leman-Russ(Medium Tanks) with Baneblade Super-Heavy tank brigades.

*Which means that not counting the losses that were already reinforced because 100% of Reinforcements is being supported by the IC, there were also 342,000 casualties already through all these operations.

Requiem of Finland

lphoi2spain001.jpg

While more and more aircrafts once operating in Britain are redeployed to Normandy, in-depth reconaissance indicates that most of the seemingly massive formations were nothing but relatively large but not massive formations lacking centralized chains of command. It seems that rather than merging several divisions into a single army, the enemy was resorting mostly to single divisions organizations. Perhaps they simply lacked enough generals to command such massive numbers of forces they had available, which would be another thing in favor of the UDMS-KKK

lphoi2spain002.jpg

THE_EMPEROR_IS_WITH_US_by_Lutherniel.jpg

Meanwhile, as strangely the French suddenly assume control of the Southern Front, the Sp. Air Marines in Saint-Etienne suffer an offensive by two tripod divisions with the support of two modern armored divisions and of mostly unarmed zombies among other abominations. Initially, it seems the odds are in favor of the marines.

lphoi2spain003.jpg
Just in case, however, a counter-offensive begins against the tanks stationed at Toulouse, to soon have air support as tactical bombers currently in Britain rebased into Northern Spain.

lphoi2spain004.jpg

Suddenly, Toulouse is reinforced by the enemy, but the offensive carries on, in spite of the arrival of power armor xenos. The edge still is with the UDMS-KKK forces even if much blood shall be shed in this battle of Toulouse. Also, it is an interesting coincidence that the city's name is so close to "To Lose". A very French thing.

lphoi2spain005.jpg

The pocketing of northeast Finland is completed, and the counter-offensive fails. Immediately, orders come to march towards Murmansk while those at Kajaani will take their place in holding Kandalaksja, and more men will then arrive at Kajaani much before this transfer of positions happen strategically. So far, everything was going well in Finland.

However, the offensive against Saint-Etienne suddenly intensified with four additional divisions participating of it, and the brave soldiers of Mannerheim carried on in their defense of Southeastern France bravely, but they were in a losing battle.

lphoi2spain006.jpg

The_Colour_Of_Thunder_by_ukitakumuki.jpg

Thanks to the counter-offensive on Toulouse, the attackers are reduced by two, but no matter how brave, the Air Marines are still losing this battle, and it would require more than that to turn its tide. Against the amassing enemy forces around, not even the Blood Ravens and Ultramarines seemed enough.

lphoi2spain007.jpg

Dawn_of_War_by_Shamanxs.jpg

They fought to the end, but when it became clear they had no chance of winning, there was little left to do. They were losing Saint-Etienne.

lphoi2spain008.jpg

But other much worse news came: the Finnish front lines were completely compromised. Kajaani was lost, and soon the tripods would shove them all the way back to Hammerfest, unless a miracle happened. Immediately the forces at Kandalaksja are ordered to retreat to Kajaani while they can, after their brave but folly attempt to support the failed defend of Kajaani with a flanking offensive.

lphoi2spain009.jpg

While the Air Marines refused to give up Saint-Etienne, victory was ensued in Toulouse, although the enemy might gain ground in Saint-Etienne, they would lose it elsewhere, and soon many more forces would arrive at Southern France to hopefully turn the tides, the enemy was finally putting significant resistance in these front lines.

lphoi2spain010.jpg

Dax, being poorly defended, is a potential target for pushing the front forward. With air support, victory shall be ensued.

lphoi2spain011.jpg

After days of EXTREME combats, the Air Marines finally are forced to retreat and give up on Saint-Etienne. The situation worsened, but they wouldn't give up on that piece of territory so easily.

lphoi2spain012.jpg

With the goal of distracting enemy forces, in Finland, a successful offensive against Oulu happens while the other areas of the front were in a very delicate situation. Air support was coming to set the xenos of Dax on fire.

lphoi2spain013.jpg

lphoi2spain014.jpg

A harassment carrier flotilla meets the submarines guarding the Mediterranean to allow safe transportation of troops through it, and the U-boat commands successfully repel them with little to no damage to their submarines.

lphoi2spain015.jpg

Dax is finally secured. With Dax and Pau secured, the front will have a little push forwards, however, further advances would be costly. The casualties were racketing up already, as predicted, but no matter the cost, Earth must be liberated and cleansed from the xenos.

lphoi2spain016.jpg

lphoi2spain017.jpg

In the deserts of North Africa, the enemies are deprived of yet another completely exterminated Tripod division after a successful encirclement. However, while this tripod division was wiped out and buried in the sands, a new, extremely fearsome offensive begins against Argentan. The battle for Normandy reaches a new point.

lphoi2spain018.jpg

Over fifteen tripod divisions are launched in this massive assault. Despite numberful, the defenders of Argentan began to feel like the equally numberful defenders of Italy during what was once called the Last Stand of Humanity. This is like that thing Cleve was talking about. ITZ. Immediately several divisions at Caen and Angers are ordered to reinforce Argentan, provided her defenders hold it out long enough for their arrival.

Meanwhile, the Finns fight bravely in the battle of Lyon against two tripods and legions of conventional enemies, despite knowing the chances don't favor them at all. The enemy seems to be pushing every advance back now, which doesn't look good.

The arrival of even more reinforcements in the offensive against Lyon quickens the ultimate demise of their attempt to hold their ground.

While both Argentan and Lyon seemed about to fall, no matter how bravely their defenders fought, the only good news came in the form of the clear certainty Toulouse would be liberated. However, if Argentan falls, the entire front of Normandy could be compromised.

The problem with Finnish troops is that you cannot reinforce nor upgrade them, which means they are not of much use.

It would seem aliens have brought in sufficient force to Europe to stop your advance and even push you back. This is not looking good.
