it's bg3, how can you be so sure? wanna bet how many feminine penises under those pants?
Anime fan calls a penis feminine. It starts ironic, then it grows until they want to be the girl with a feminine penis, then the penis must go..

Many such cases. Very sad.

Just combine the best elements from cRPGs and JRPGs and remove the shit, and bam! You have the uber RPG.

Good stuff:
  • cRPGS - non-number bloat combat, more grounded settings, made for actual adults
  • JRPGs - good aesthetics, attractive NPCs with nice tits, non-boring stories
Shit

  • cRPGs - everything that BioWare, Owlcat, and Larian do. Can probably add more devs to this list.
  • JRPGs - cringe anime garbage, gigantic numbers for no fucking reason

It's just that easy.

I'd never trade imaginative JRPG worlds for "grounded settings".

For some reason Japan wants to shove it into every possible game to the detriment of most of them. Was final fantasy really improved with cooking?
Japanese obsession with food does border on pornographic. The number of games that equate food consumption with spiritual growth/power and such is quite high. It has to be a Buddhist or Confucius thing.

I'm not a CRPG fan so you're both a bunch of fags to me.

Xeno games are beautiful to look at but man are those fields empty and the combat system dull. I tried the WiiU one and I got so fed up of endless cut scenes I don't think I made it even past the first area that looked like this. It lead right to a cave with non-stop cut scenes.

Sadly for every Xenosaga game there's 50 or 100 generic anime JRPGs. Generic anime style is so over saturated and spoils so many other wise interesting visual designs.

I can't recall a single school setting in a jrpg until like, FF8 rolled around. Ditto for tutorials, for the most part. Maybe play something other than Persona, the series that was stolen for normies that don't like games? And the random drop stuff is just a complete non-issue. Stop being autistic and trying to get every item in the game. If anything it's the western devs that have gamblebrain, can't make a combat system that doesn't give a housecat a 1/10 chance of killing a fucking warrior in plate armour.

i wouldn't call it "good"

Maybe substitute "grounded" with "substantial."

A lot of JRPG worlds are just window dressing where nothing is ever explained and it's just clearly something the art team wanted.

Also, and I'm going to repeat this, but more games for actual adults beyond the mental age of 25.

I like your shit, Japan, but make shit for old people like me.

Fedora Master will come in here pretending he had nothing to do with this. Regardless of his cowardice, the Japs make better RPGs at this point. Change/twist/twirl the definition of RPG as much as you like, they do it better. This is the acceptance thread.

The irony of this comment is that Dragon Quest is a nonlinear game with no quest log or hand holding, like codexers always say they want.

Whe squaresoft tried to appeal to the west, the game they made was insulting easy, linear, and dumbed down.

Isn't all Japanese media either made for 12 year old boys or about 12 year old boys fucking things (usually each other)?

I never understood this mentality. Do we say this about films, or TV, or books?

"Yeah, I'll keep consuming content clearly made for children because that's the most profitable market segment, and I'm happy with it."

We're on the codex, bros, it's okay to complain about the status quo.

See, this is the reputation that JRPGs have. And we're just okay with it? Let's just spend money and consume?

well, yes. modern films, tv and books ARE shit.
No argument there, but things can get better.

It's not like there's no one left in the world that wants to make these things, have talent and passion for them.

At this point, being happy with the sorry state of the world is just accepting the coming dystopia.

where i said i'm happy with the state of the world? i'm just saying what's the point in destroying one of the very few mediums where brighter world is still allowed to get instead more of the same?

RPGs are shittier action-adventure games. (If most action-adventure games weren't made by corpos for morons.) You can design the best combat system in the world and it will be ruined by the stats, customization and obsessive "looting" of the RPG. Platforming/climbing and such will be degraded as well, for the RPG nuts who complain that you can't make navigation that complex and due to button allotment.

Who cares? To paraphrase C.S Lewis (iirc) that obsessing about the perception of maturity is juvenile behavior left behind by adults. You may still get your wish though as businessmen sell society out and the western notion of maturity and equality inserting niggerfaggots and trannies will continue to spread in the jrpg market.

There's also the issue with almost every character being a commercial archtype
i'll take classic archetype over le quirky redditor thiefling in wheelchair any day of the week. archetypes exist for a reason. they are relatable.
The ditsy girl who can't cook an nearly poisons people with her food while being SUPER GENKI DESU is fucking annoying and not relatable. It's as bad, if not worse than the redditor thiefling. And most JRPGs have le quirky theifling as an annoying mascot who follows you around to explain the world.

I also don't care about relating to characters. I'm not a woman or a nigger. I can enjoy a story totally alien to me on it's own merits without having to insert myself.

Genki grisl are the best girls
