If there's one thing Josh has proven, it's that he will polish a turd until it's a shiny beacon of hope.

Although that doesn't make it any better to once again be screwed for playing the game on day 1. If only these games were coming out more often. It's hard to exercise some gamer patience when you only get to play oldschool-style RPG once a year if you're lucky.

I had fun playing through the first time, when you're exploring new content it's hard to be autistic about the system, that's reserved for the rerererere-plays.
It could always be better but I hardly felt screwed over.

Blaming people for munchkinism in some single player combat game is one level of autism I haven't seen yet I admit.
So you haven't seen the old BGII discussions here.

Also, will Infinitron please change the thread title to "Pillars of Eternity 2: Open Beta 1.1"

I'm briefly at my game machine. Played through the starter island with the beta. Difficulty is much improved. That one fight at the digsite was rad -- I did beat it on the first try but I scouted ahead, planted a trap, and used a grenade, and even after that initial softening-up I had to work for it. Later on in the ruins I blew up a mob with a gunpowder barrel but two of my guys got caught in the blast with an instant knockout. Good times, this feels like a game now.

Playing on Veteran. Gonna leave PotD for later when I know what's where and what all the abilities and shit do.

Still won't be able to put many hours into this until July though. Good thing, it ought to be reasonably stable by then.

I can't understand why nerf gear and weapons at all, I just...fuck it I hope this is a beta patch on steam, maybe the will change their mind.
When they put out the Deadfire Pack for Pillars 1, the unique armours had two problems:

1) the models didn't fade properly when you were in stealth or behind an object, and the colours couldn't be changed from pure white on male characters. Looked like shit.

2) they gave +20 Deflection

When they finally got around to patching the Deadfire Pack, their only change to the unique armours was to nerf the Deflection bonus.

So no, they won't be changing their mind

I love that voice actors don't really give a shit about the pronunciation of Sawyer's autism except maybe Pallegina's and Furrante's
Yeah it's great that the voice actors didn't bother learning how to pronounce the names they were saying

They need to get Veteran and POTD in a good place before they start tinkering with things.

How are they going to do that without tinkering with things? Balacing is tinkering with things.

Nerfs can be interesting but a blanket nerf is lazy.

Not if shit is waaaay out of whack to start with.

It was.

Basically, I don't get this hostility to nerfs. I want a game experience that's... well, balanced. Good and challenging but not hit-a-brick-wall frustrating. If it starts out stupidly easy, and you're not allowed to nerf anything, then all you get is massive stat inflation because they'll have to do a blanket buff to enemies instead. Ends up in the same place, only with more retardation.

Retardation in single player RPGs has it's place, just look at the games Dumpsterfire is supposedly the spiritual successor of.

If you can achieve the same balance by nerfing players or buffing enemies, do the latter - it makes players happier and you don't have to worry about power creep since this isn't a competitive online game with a lifetime of several years.

Stacking, Lhynn. The nerf wasn't from +2 to +1, it was from +6 to +3 or even +8 to +4. The items themselves may not have been OP but the stacks were.
8 to 4 = 24% to 12%
Either way it means fuck all, now you just wont notice as much of a difference between having the item on and not having it, which destroys itemization. If sawyer had any braincells he would have applied diminishing returns to the entire system, but because he is an incompetent buffon, we are stuck with one of the most overly designed, broken to the core systems i have ever seen.

A Rymrgand godlike who mutilated their own face to try to hide the godlike facial features or they hate them in general? Sounds like incline.

That would be cool, yes.

Re. patch, most of the kneejerk has to do with how people figured out various item nerfs, but it's much harder to tell how enemies have been buffed in POTD. Apparently encounter composition has already received some adjustment, beyond the armour/penetration flat increase? They need to do quite a bit more, but we'll see when the patch is actually live if they've managed to do it.

wouldnt that just be pallegina 2.0

No, Pallegina doesn't hate being godlike, she hates societal attitude towards them and blames the gods for basically playing a prank on godlikes. This character will actively despise the outward appearance of a godlike and maybe think of themself as disgusting and needing to be "fixed", going to extreme measures to do that, like mutilating their face. Pallegina is stoicism and righteous (according to her) anger, this character is psychological damage.

Speaking about Lidless Gaze (it causes you being Terrified, high resolve doesn't help much). Perhaps I am stupid, but what the best way to protect your party from this shit?
Also additional question which grimoire bet for battle-mage (fighter (unbroken)/wizard)?

Tiny review (didn't play it, watched some playthroughs and read the threads here):

- It looks very nice.
- It is quite different and interesting, at the start.
- You still don't know what happens during combat, except that it is hard to lose.
- You don't need to click the timed MMO abilities for the whole party anymore, all the time, except on POTD after the patch.
- It still doesn't matter what choices you make in builds and dialog.
- It reads like fan fiction.
- Itemization was cool (if bland) until the patch.
- Expensive for what you get.

Recommendation: wait for 75% off or play better games.

The +1 cast/level one, don't think any of the unique spells are worth it. Maybe Arkemyr's invisibility or Shadowflame, but the latter is better on backline since the casting time got nerfed.

Thanks, but if I wanted to read a review written by someone who has not played the game, I would simply go to Polygon

Ah, you want me to spend money or pirate it first? I do it like this to see if I would be wasting my time in the first place. And I'm pretty sure I would.

I read the threads here to sample the enjoyment or frustration.

I use uTorrent to torrent tv series, and qbitorrent to torrent games and anime, each to different partitions. I use each program as my "viewing list" (I just click on stuff directly from the downloaded list panel), and since over time the lists grow so big (so much stuff downloaded) I found I needed to seperate them.

As for adblock and ublock, I found that some websites act funny with one but not the other, like yourporn.sexy.

What is the benefit of GOG if you are using Galaxy? Galaxy always struck me as a dumb idea.

And you use Transmission for the porn. Understandable.

It's important to remember to stick to old versions of uTorrent, later ones started including a miner into the code.
