Why exactly are you linking him to Skyway "review" of the demo?

Lets you know everything you need to know about the core game, ie. shit.

At least it has nice voice-acting.

You must expose yourself to shoot enemies
Preposterous!

I replayed Mafia 1 a few years ago. I remember it was pretty easy. Much easier for me than on my first playthrough when it came out.

Not that easy. Can't say for sure, because I'm using an realistic weapons mod, and it supposedly makes things a little harder.

The thing is that tommy stays with the arm down and if you press the attack button, he doesn't shoot, he only point the gun. only then you shoot. The enemies don't miss too much either.

the fact is the games give advantage for who shoot first. If you are shot, you become a sitting duck, rolling on the ground in pain. and sometimes, the enemies hit you first even if you are with him on the crosshair.

I woudn't call it easy, but you have to proceed extra careful.

By the way, this is not a complaint, but it's a sensitive difference from games nowadays.

So I take it that Mafia II is shit and Illusion SW as it was is history?

I have always been a big fan of Illusion SW, since H&D, which was a groundbreaking game at the time. It's obvious they loved the great WWII cinema of the 60s/70s as much as I do (think of movies like Where Eagles Dare or The Heroes of Telemark etc). And they had much in common with Cinemaware.

Well, at least there will always be Mafia and HD2 to go back to. Which reminds me I still haven't played the HD2 expansion at all.

I finished it. Extremely linear and popamole to the max. Also way too easy (played it on hard/simulation), but has its charm. The atmosphere is great, supported by good writing and some of the best voice acting I've seen in a game. Driving model is OK, way more realistic than the GTA crap. Still shit compared to Mafia 1.

Torrented it.

Cutscene. Stop talking already and let me play. Stop. Talking. Skip cutscene.

Next cutscene. What the fuck, just let me play already, I don't care about your cliche-ridden story.

Cutscene. A world war 2 tutorial mission. WORLD. WAR. 2. Can you taste the bland already?

Cutscene.

Game finally starts. "Kazeen, look at dees, Amerika, de land of de free!" GTA4 flashback to da max.

Run for five minutes from A to B.

Cutscene.

Learn how to drive. Lame jokes. Learn how to shoot. Cutscene. Drive. Cutscene. Drive. Cutscene.

Man, I could be playing Victoria 2 right now.

Uninstall.

Is where I gave up, uninstalled, and went to play DoW2. Good decision, that was. How's Victoria 2?

The cutscenes are actually really well done. But they're just that: completely non-interactive cutscenes. And a fuckload of them.

What's Victoria 2?

I'm very impressed by the level of polish in Victoria 2. If you check out the thread about it, you'll see people complaining about bugs in the later stages of the game, though to be honest I think it's impressive that there's only a handful of bugs (which seem easy to iron out). For a Paradox game, that's an incredible achievement, so I suggest you try it. It's also a great example of a game that is improved by streamlining (you can't change the occupation of your POPs, for example, instead they change overtime depending on your economic strategy).

DOW2 is another game I had much more fun with than I did with Mafia 2. Chaos Rising is especially good, though the vanillla is still quite satisfying on the hardest difficulty and actually requires some tactics. Will have to go back to it eventually.

I'm so trying Victoria 2, I was just a bit put off by reports that Paradox tends to be a little... Obsidian-esque when it comes to polish/bug-squashing.

True, Paradox is like that sometimes, but this time they really did their best. In fact, if you haven't, try Europa Universalis 3 with all the add-ons if you enjoy grand strategy. Broken at first, the game has been patched to near perfection. HoI2 as well, in my opinion.

Late game economy is all over the place and land warfare is totally fucked.

Played Mafia II for a bit, thought it was pretty shit compared to the first one and the only thing that made me keep going were the Playboy collectibles :smug:

I also replayed Mafia 1 like a week before and the first thing I remembered about Mafia 1 was the holy shit boring as fuck driving missions that were the first three missions.

First mission: Escape pursuers, not so bad, usually ended up near the bar anyway.

Second mission: Drive a taxi and drive people from place to place which takes about 20 minutes, and then run away from your pursuers.

Third mission: Drive around collecting protection money which takes about 25 minutes this time and then drive off the map to the hotel which then leads into a shootout and then you have to drive after the guy fleeing with your money.

zzzzzzzz

Hell I tried Portugal and it gone into the red the moment I started the game without doing anything ... maybe its realistic but fuck it, economy seems broken as I expect countries at the start have a self sustaining economy with only expansion and war bring up problems.

Also fertilizer factories.

Give it some time. Don't play it just yet. Some pretty nasty balance holes. There's a simple rule that always works when it comes to Paradox games - play only after 3rd patch to enjoy.

People started poking around in the guts of the game, and found a shit load of script leftovers from before they hacked out most of the features.

Side missions, C&C, melee weapons, etc. Somebody said as many as 130 odd missions from the various types just got tossed.
This is what happens when development gets retarded halfway through.

Hell, the Prologue was originally much larger, instead of a five minute diversion;

they removed all of this but the 'playmates' are in

I seen reports that one of them does not spawn correctly that I can confirm as it failed to spawn until I quit the game entirely and started the chapter from the start.

Not really surprised about the cuts, they have a subway system that cannot be used and Taxis give the impression you could use them (but cannot).

Metro travel was a feature at one point, but...yeah, you can figure out the rest. You also used to be able to stuff bodies in your trunk, and if you got pulled over had to play it cool or the cop would start poking around the car.
