A) Unisex (for both female & male characters):
1) Soldier
Game Text: The basic class where all characters begin. With evenly distributed abilities, these characters are quite versatile.
GameFAQ: Basic class (every unit starts as a soldier).
Requirements: none
Preferable weapon: none
Special abilities: none
Movement type: Walking/Wading (M), Walking/Semiaquatic (F)
Base move: 5
Stat growth (when leveling up): HP: 8 MP: 2 STR: 4 INT: 4 AGI: 5
2) Archer
Game Text: Skilled rear support characters who excel at shooting arrows. Useful in many situations.
GameFAQ: The archer is the worst class besides the soldier. Their strength is terrible which makes their bow attacks very weak. Hawkmen make better archers. If you have a good bow then you can use an archer until better classes become available.
Requirements: AGI 37
Preferable weapon: bow
Special abilities: none
Movement type: Walking/Semiaquatic
Base move: 6
Stat growth: HP: 6 MP: 2 STR: 4 INT: 3 AGI: 6
3) Wizard
Game Text: Wizards typically attack from a distance using magic and are not very good at hand-to-hand combat. They are most effective at the rear, supporting the troops and using lower level attack spells.
GameFAQ: Great in the beginning of the game, but sirens and liches are better later on. Try having only female wizards except if you want a chaotic male to become a lich.
Requirements: INT 26, MP 16, Neutral or Chaotic
Preferable weapon: wang
Special abilities: 3 offensive spells
Movement type: Trudging/Wading
Base move: 4
Stat growth: HP: 5 MP: 6 STR: 3 INT: 6 AGI: 4
4) Ninja
Game Text: Highly trained spies who act under a veil of secrecy. Ninjas are experts in martial arts and can cast low level spells. They can move up to 3 steps up or 4 steps down and can walk unhindered on water.
GameFAQ: Excels in AGI. Great in the beginning of the game.
Requirements: STR 36, AGI 37
Preferable weapon: katana
Special abilities: shiruken throw + 1 offensive spell
Movement type: Acrobatic/Waterwalking
Base move: 7
Stat growth: HP: 5 MP: 3 STR: 4 INT: 4 AGI: 7
5) Knight
Game Text: Knights display unwavering courage and value courtesy, honor, and pride. They surpass normal soldiers in ability and can cast certain spells of virtue.
GameFAQ: Strongest fighters in the beginning of the game, but sword masters and dragoons are better choices when they become available.
Requirements: STR 51, AGI 53, Neutral or Lawful, Knight's Certificate Emblem
Preferable weapon: sword
Special abilities: 1 Virtue (light) spell
Movement type: Walking/Wading
Base move: 5
Stat growth: HP: 7 MP: 3 STR: 6 INT: 4 AGI: 5
6) Cleric
Game Text: Clerics rely on God for strength, miraculously healing comrades and helping lost souls return to heaven. One of the few classes that can use healing spells.
GameFAQ: You always need a healer at the beginning of the game and these guys do their job well. Make them into priests as soon as possible though.
Requirements: INT 28, MP 18, Neutral or Lawful
Preferable weapon: staff
Special abilities: 3 Virtue (light) spells
Movement type: Trudging/Wading
Base move: 4
Stat growth: HP: 5 MP: 5 STR: 3 INT: 7 AGI: 4
7) Priest
Game Text: Priests are trained in the use of higher level spells of virtue. Only this class can cast Resurrection, a spell that retrieves the souls of the dead and revives their flesh.
GameFAQ: Best healer in the game. Make sure you have one in the team.
Requirements: MP 76, INT 96, Neutral or Lawful, less than 10 kills, Heavenly Spirit Emblem
Preferable weapon: staff
Special abilities: 3 Virtue (light) spells
Movement type: Trudging/Wading
Base move: 4
Stat growth: HP: 5 MP: 6 STR: 4 INT: 6 AGI: 4
B) Female only:
1) Dragon Tamer
Game Text: Dragon Tamers handle dragons gently and will enhance the power of dragons within a range of 3 panels. This female class can cast missile type magic and are unforgiving to those that would hurt a dragon.
GameFAQ: Female version of Beast Tamer.
Requirements: HP 140, MP 14, no more than one dragon slain
Preferable weapon: thrusting sword
Special abilities: 1 offensive spell + buff for all dragons standing nearby
Movement type: Walking/Wading
Base move: 6
Stat growth: HP: 6 MP: 3 STR: 4 INT: 4 AGI: 5
2) Witch
Game Text: Witches specialize in using supporting spells such as Ray of Paralysis. They do not have strong attack spells and make poor fighters. A witch's beauty may be her strongest weapon.
GameFAQ: Best used for casting support spells on your better characters.
Requirements: MP 38, INT 35, Neutral or Chaotic, Vixen's Whisper Emblem
Preferable weapon: staff
Special abilities: Fascination (charms enemies), 2 support spells
Movement type: Trudging/Wading
Base move: 5
Stat growth: HP: 5 MP: 6 STR: 3 INT: 4 AGI: 6
3) Siren
Game Text: A stunningly beautiful spellcaster that is well acquainted with all kinds of powerful attack spells. Her INT and MP increase faster than a wizard's.
GameFAQ: Great class (summoning spells). I recommend having at least one, more if you want to turn one into a lich.
Requirements: MP 60, INT 60, Philosopher's Stone Emblem
Preferable weapon: fan
Special abilities: 3 offensive or summon spells
Movement type: Trudging/Wading
Base move: 4
Stat growth: HP: 5 MP: 7 STR: 3 INT: 7 AGI: 3
4) Valkyrie
Game Text: Valkyries are versatile female warriors who fight well both on land and water. They supplement their physical abilities with low level attack magic.
GameFAQ: Best female attacker. Their attack is fairly strong, as is their magic.
Requirements: STR 48, INT 41, Neutral or Lawful, Lancer Emblem
Preferable weapon: spear
Special abilities: 2 offensive spells
Movement type: Snow-Walking/Semiaquatic
Base move: 6
Stat growth: HP: 6 MP: 2 STR: 5 INT: 5 AGI: 5
C) Male only:
1) Beast Tamer
Game Text: Beast Tamers are among the few humans that magic beasts such as Griffins will open their hearts to. These male warriors enhance magic beasts' power when they are in close proximity.
GameFAQ: Nothing special. They do not really excel in any category. Early on they fight as well as any other class but supporting beasts aren't quite comparable to the special abilities that the other melee classes get.
Requirements: HP 142, STR 34, no more than one beast slain
Preferable weapon: whip
Special abilities: buff for nearby beasts
Movement type: Walking/Wading
Base move: 6
Stat growth: HP: 6 MP: 2 STR: 5 INT: 3 AGI: 5
2) Warlock
Game Text: A male spellcaster, deceivingly harmless in appearance, who in reality manipulates awesome magical power. A Warlock can fight bravely at the front lines or sustain the troops with support spells from the rear.
GameFAQ: Not that great. His physical attack is weaker than in other melee classes. There are better classes that can use support magic too (Swordmaster).
Requirements: MP 78, STR 90, INT 76, Neutral or Lawful, The Pen and the Sword Emblem
Preferable weapon: sword
Special abilities: 2 support spells, special attack to enemies with opposite element
Movement type: Walking/Wading
Base move: 4
Stat growth: HP: 6 MP: 5 STR: 5 INT: 5 AGI: 5
3) Dragoon
Game Text: Also known as dragon slayers, these powerful male warriors can overwhelm dragons, or any creature, for that matter. They can use missile type spells.
GameFAQ: Their attack and defense are strong but their magic and attack defense are weak. Not as versatile as the swordmaster but better than the beast tamer.
Requirements: HP 215, STR 109, AGI 94, Neutral or Chaotic, Dragon's Scale Emblem
Preferable weapon: sword or spear
Special abilities: 1 offensive spell, damage increase against dragons
Movement type: Walking/Wading
Base move: 5
Stat growth: HP: 7 MP: 2 STR: 6 INT: 3 AGI: 5
4) Swordmaster
Game Text: Swordmasters can swiftly strike down opponents with blindingly fast sword-handling, and they can also use support spells.
GameFAQ: Their attack is strong, their speed is good, and as said, they can use a support spells. They are more agile than dragoons and have better magic resistance.
Requirements: STR 95, AGI 111, Book of Initiation Emblem
Preferable weapon: sword
Special abilities: stone throw, stun blast (only when katana equipped), 1 support spell
Movement type: Walking/Wading
Base move: 6
Stat growth: HP: 6 MP: 3 STR: 5 INT: 3 AGI: 6
D) Classes available through Transmigration:
1) Angel Knight
Game Text: Only a seasoned warrior with a pure heart can transmigrate to
become an Angel Knight. These flying characters have the ability
to cast spells of virtue.
GameFAQ: A character must die in battle to become an angel knight when he or she meets the requirements and has the emblem. Even then, transmigration is not guaranteed so it may take a few tries. Better than knights and have special abilities like exorcism. But their defense and attack are nothing special. Not the best character, but certainly a good addition to the army.
Requirements: HP 215, MP 66, STR 89, INT 81, AGI 88, Lawful, Archangel's Feather Emblem
Preferable weapon: thrusting sword
Special abilities: Poignant Melody (restores HP/MP to the undead) and Banish (drains the enemy's MP and acts as an exorcism)
Movement type: Flying/Wading
Base move: 6
Stat growth: HP: 7 MP: 3 STR: 5 INT: 5 AGI: 6
2) Lich
Game Text: A Lich is a wizard resurrected using a Ring of the Dead. Liches are more powerful than wizards and have strong defenses against magical and physical attacks. They can use all spells except virtue and summon spells.
GameFAQ: A character must die in battle to become a lich when he or she meets the requirements and has the ring equipped. One of the best classes in the game hands down.
Requirements: MP 118, INT 134, Chaotic, Ring of the Dead equipped.
Preferable weapon: staff
Special abilities: 3 non-Virtue, non-summon spells
Movement type: Trudging/Wading
Base move: 6
Stat growth: HP: 5 MP: 7 STR: 2 INT: 7 AGI: 5
E) Demi-Human Classes (Giant, Mermaid, Fairy, Hawkman): they all suck major ass (maybe with an exception of a Hawkman).
