That's not safe turret distance - you need at least 3 tiles between turrets. Just tested this on alpha 13 to be extra sure on your exact layout. Any turret kill will take out your whole line.
4. Unfreeze and let go. The experiment is over.
Knowing our healing skills, the "heal" would never happen anyway. Safer that way. Or leave her a popsicle until we get more bargain chips to release.
Also... if Azira cashes in his reward from a person of questionable fluid gender, does that make him gay or is SPACEKommunism past those petty things?
Oh yeah, regarding the Fort name:
Do we get a poll about that? Because knowing the 'dex the Kingcomrade option will win.
Might as well just skip that and call it:
No reason to be so explicit; folks'll think things are grim the moment they walk in. Either because of all the blood and bodies strewn about, or because they realize nine turrets have targeted them the as they turn that corner.
Rimworld's dev isn't happy at all with killboxes and has claimed a few times he'll take steps to prevent players from abusing those
Thing is, the turrets were never supposed to work the way they work now - they're just too easy and too cheap to build en masse. They got introduced as a sort of a placeholder a bunch of alphas ago, to help flesh out the gameplay quicker, and are either going to get scrapped entirely or will get a massive redesign sometime soon.
I kinda agree. As much as I love Rimworld and spent dozens of hours playing it, I can see how turrets make things repetitive.
Introducing bug swarms in A13 addressed another very popular combo, which was digging into a mountain and defending from the inside. It's still doable but way more risky now, and a bad bug spawn *will* cost lives. So far I haven't found a way to make my dugout bases 100% bugproof.
But you'd still build the same fort given that the AI will reliably rush your front door. The turrets just make it stronger. And like Grim said earlier, they're really fragile and become untenable to keep rebuilding once raids start to get stronger. If the dev doesn't like entrance forts he should make raider AI more aggressively try to break through your walls and not rush head first into a well fortified position.
My current colony, btw, is built as a continuous mansion with only a small inner courtyard for power generators. No bugs and raiders can't drop in (except that one time I had a drop pod raid and one of the raiders crashed through my storage room roof. Bug or feature? You decide).
Killboxes only help when dealing with straightforward assaults and nothing else. You only see those when tribesmen attack you, and sometimes pirates (they don't normally use straight approach later on). Turrets by themselves (outside of forts/killboxes) is a waste of resources - they can distract the enemy, but suck at actual damage dealing. Re-building them after every minor skirmish is very taxing.
Randy Random Extreme will fuck up any colony eventually, especially if it's ruled by Codex Hivemind. I only hope that this fort will make it last somewhat longer.
Also does organ harvesting has fixed chance, or is it dependent on medicine skill? If dependent, then probably 5, she will die, but at least Azira will train his medical skill. If fixed chance, then 3, fresh set of organs is nice to have in backwater world. Maybe we'll get a proper medic to implant them someday, miracles do happen.
I know that complicated surgeries like bionics and such depend heavily on medical skill, so I imagine the same applies to organ harvesting. Quality medcine, special hospital beds and vitals monitors also help.
But we have none of that, of course. Just Azira and his dirty socks.
Successfully replaced heart with 12 skill. This is why i said try recruit Kimmy (she have 12 medicine). Also do you really want womyn organs transplanted to you?
I'm having those dreams again. Of voices criticizing and arguing over my projects. Of Servant talking about kommunism, power, and the future of humankind. I almost like him again. If only he wasn't such a damn pain in the ass.
Anyway, this design is garbage.
"Turrets are too close", they say. "Build less turrets", they say.
Nu. We need MOAR turrets, not less. This is how we do it:
Fuck yes! Now that's bad ass.
- 10 turrets, each one is isolated and protected by granite walls and a sandbag;
- 5 central positions for kolonists, with sandbags in front and granite autodoor behind for tactical retreat;
- 10+ backup positions for kolonists (doorways behind turrets) for safe warfare.
Of course, placing turrets like that ain't good for the firing angle. That's why I had to revise the entrance as well.
This way it's safer for kolonists in the centre; and also perfectly good for turrets to be effective.
I will call this monumental structure... Gimwulfgrad.
Will start building tomorrow, as soon as I finish second Prosperwall. Stonecutter's workshop is the main priority, of course.
It should speed up the overall progress a great deal.
11th of Winter, 5501
Morning, komrade! I trust you slept well?
I don't want any trouble, Doctor Azira.
Then you should let me remove those fangs. Just give me a moment to find my pliers...
*runs away*
Meanwhile
Dreaady, wait!
Leave me alone!
Stay here, muffin. It's too cold outside.
Can't stay here, silly. I must work in the name of Common Good. And because Grimwulf would kill me otherwise.
Precisely.
It's only hard in the beginning. Stick around for long enough, and you will find happiness and joy. Look at Kalin, for instance!
Ugh. Kalin.
So. What do you think we should do with our frozen guest? I'd rather keep her in the cryo casket for now.
We still got three other cryokits, we dont have enough meds, we dont have skilled doctor, we dont have enough food to feed an useless mouth for long. Keep her in the kit and wait~
As if anybody cares about wymin opinion. Dreaad?
*power squatting*
Guess you're abstaining again. AWRIGHT THEN.
We should go. Good day to you, Kommissar!
Yeah, yeah, get back to work already. KALIN!
*sigh*
What's your take on that gurl we've frozen?
Well since *someone* buried all our backup rations I say keep Kimmy around for emergency nom nom!
Then it's decided. Now go dig us a tunnel, Kalin. Like the one that deer dug in your eye, GWA HAH AHA
Later.
Hah... ahaha... ha. Phew.
Good morning, Kommissar.
Why are you not working, corporal? You want to be a private again? DO YOU?!
Umm, no. Just wanted to talk to you for a moment, Kommissar. About that fortification you are about to build?
What about it?
I suggest we name it Immigration Processing Centre.
GWA HAH HAHA, that's pretty gud. Almost as gud as Grimwulfgrad. You know what, let the Space Jesus decide. *tosses a coin* You see now? There are no Gods. Only Grimwulfgrad.
Umm, ok. Have you seen Dreaad today?
He'd better be working his ass off. Or I'll find him.
Later that morning.
What are you doing outside of the kitchen, woman?
Ever heard of gender equality? I have a right to take a break every now and then.
Back in my days non-men were working the fields all day, every day. You are living a royal life, lacgirl.
Am I?
I gave you roof. I gave you clothes. I gave you purpose. Show some damn gratitude.
Wh-- How... Alright, that does it. I'll go hunt something. Need to take off the heat.
A bit later.
Lacgirl.
Care to join me, old man?
Naah, I'll pass. Grim needs my help building Grimwulfgrad.
Aww.
Don't we have enough meat already?
My love Dreaady is so burly and strong. I must make sure he eats well.
Sometimes I wonder if you're hypnotized or something.
I am but a woman in love.
Riiight. See you later then. Kalin!
Are you stalking me, Azira? Can I have a fucking moment in private?
I see you're in good mood. As always.
*mumbles* Can't even take a piss in peace.
*walks outside* Dreaad. Still alive, huh?
Yes, "doctor" Azira, I am still alive. Unlike your brother.
*clenches teeth* Careful. I have a long memory.
Meanwhile.
Your colony is so pathetic, Grimwulf. Even your hunter is a woman.
Be quiet, Sparkles.
You know perfectly well how to silence me forever.
Yes. I gotta start drinkin' again. Being sober is a fucking torment.
One hour later.
Back so soon?
It's gone, Grim. The whole muffalo herd.
Meh. We have plenty of food to get us through the cold season. Then we can grow crops or something.
Can we grow strawberries?~
Potatoes. Only potatoes.
Later that day.
DONE! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, I am THE BOSS! ... Huh? HEY!
*mumbles slav swearings* Ahem. Hello.
What do you think you're doing, hiding out there, spying on me for some reason?
Hiding? Spying? Хахаха... ха. I was just, err... Fetching the stone blocks! Yeah.
You told me to haul every last granite block to Grimwulfgrad. So here I am!
Hmrpf. How's the progress over there?
Oh, you know. Could be better.
I blame Kalin, of course. He's digging too slow. Azira is just being lazy as usual. Nobody expected results from these two, right?
Go tell Kalin to hurry the fuck up. If he doesn't dig that tunnel pronto, I will dig my fist into his empty eyesocket.
Aye aye, Kommissar!
Later.
Grimwulf says he will fuck you in the eyesocket.
Not if I club his balls so hard, they will bounce up to the throat and choke him to death.
I will give him your answer. Bye!
You do that. *Sigh* I hate mining granite.
A bit later.
Kalin says you can beat him whenever you want, he doesn't care. This man simply refuses to work!
Figures. Whatever, I've already sent Azira to dig the tunnel from the opposite side.
Zaebis! Now what?
And now we're going to work, Dreaad. You haul granite chunks over here - make sure that tunnel stays clear and passable.
Right. Work.
Later that day.
At least we're making progress, amirite? High five! *raises right hand and waits* Хахаха. Хаха. I'll go clean the dining room.
You should be kinder to your people, Grimwulf.
Eat dick and die, Nelson.
Azira is coming. Confont him.
Shuddup.
You alright, Grim?
Why did you attack Sparkles without my permission? Why did you torture and kill her?
Hurr. Fuck off.
Azira, I wanted to ask you something for a long time.
Sure thing.
The day we crash-landed here. You were the only one not suffering from cryo sickness. Why is that?
When you drink as much as I used to, sickness of any kind is not even a thing.
So you were in cryosleep too? Just like me and Kalin?
Of course.
My brother is lying.
I swear, if you don't fuck off right now, I'll go get a good long cryosleep myself!
Err..?
I wasn't talking to you.
I see... Have you ever tried yoga?
Is it drinkable?
Your fucking tunnel is done.
Then why are you still here, Kalin? Go dig more space in the Storage. We need it yesterday.
Look. It's Dreaad doing nothing. Again.
Sting like a butterfly, hop like a dandruff! That's my motto.
One of these days, I will literally kick you in the thorax, Dreaad.
Sorry, no time for chattin'! *runs in the freezer*
I knew you would come eventually, my love.
FUCK!
*locks both doors* Nobody will bother us here. It's just you and me.
And a dead muffalo.
Yes. *lays on top of the animal* So soft... so furry... dead muffalo...
HEEEEEEEEEEEEELP! *bruteforces the door open, runs away*
No, wait! *weeps*
What's your excuse this time?
Excuse for eating so late? Or excuse for crying?
Excuse for not staying in the kitchen.
Fuck you, Kommissar.
Fair enough. Gonna grab myself a snack too.
Why so sad, lacgirl?
He doesn't love meeee~
Oh.
What would you do if you were in love with someone who rejects you over and over?
What would any northman do? Just take what I want.
Northman? Aren't you kind of... black?
It's just the light and shadows.
*sob* I'd better go to the kitchen.
Is she gone? Phew.
Solve your issues with lacgirl, for goodness sake.
Get a room, you two.
A room?
HA HA, that was a good one, I know. Now go, Dreaad. The sun is still high.
Goddamn Dreaad.
We need components, Grim. And soon.
I know.
Kalin could dig compacted machinery, but it's slow. And we need them urgently and in large amounts.
I know!
Well?
*sigh* Give me a moment.
Well?
I thought you'd never ask.
Shut up and speak.
The Old Machines, you can dig them. It's good. The New Machines, better. Look for pieces of failed engineering.
Disassemble them. But be careful. Treat them like a jeweler treats his anti-tank missiles. And you will be rewarded.
Your friend, capable. Azira. All he needs is to pretend that he is operating a human body. And let the hands do the rest. Dismember everything.
Later that evening.
What a day, huh? *yawns*
Nothing happened really. Only gud old labour. Again.
Like a calm before the storm.
At least the workshop is almost done. Are you happy, corporal?
Huh? I can work here? Indoors?
Yes.
You mean there will be a roof??
Yes.
And a floor? And a heater? And lights?
No, no, and... lemme think... no.
Hm. Still better than cutting stones outdoors. Thank you, Kommissar Grim.
I care about my people, corporal Greenball. Dismissed.
One question, though. Why are you building autodoors?
Hm? Oh. Shit.
What?
I did it on autopilot. Was distracted by that silver-tongued fucker.
Eh? Ryan?
GWAHAH, no. I meant... Nevermind.
Deconstructing them now makes no sense in any case.
Yeah. I say we're done for today. Time to get some rest.
Workshop is ready to go. Some walls need to be finished, but that's it. Plenty of blocks to start building Grimwulfgrad; and raw chunks for corporal Greenball to cut.
The tunnel is also ready and clear of raw chunks and other obstacles.
I'm content with our progress so far. More or less.
But this eerie lack of events makes my balls tingle at nights. I have a feeling of something bad about to happen.
