How life works is as you get older you find you are more conservative. But it's not that you changed, the world changed around you, and while you get good things mostly you get serious decline. Well, that's the beauty of the thing. If someone reports 300 posts as "librul" all I have to do is absolutely nothing. Next time DU logs on, he'll see the report queue, blow a fuse and ban the person who made frivolous reports.
But if you really do feel like a thread in general has veered irrevocably into GD/pol/retardo territory, press teh buttan. Pretty much the only time I ever touch stuff in Science is when a bunch of other users report it. Much as HHR and Moribund would love to believe I have some sort of personal vendetta against them, I didn't touch their shit until the 4th user reported them for the exact same thing within a day.
Hobbit lord of mordors neanderthal collation was all me though. As is deleting every Andhaira thread (well, just pressing "deny" on the moderation queue) where he links to a daily mail article and tries to drag GD into Science.

Already do report, if necessary.
Anything that deals with the social sciences (evolutionary biology, particularly) are a bit hard to flag as immediate shit. Often, they seem ignored by others, so it's just as well.
