BRO COULD YOU BE ANY MORE OF A CONSOLETARD YOU ARENT SUPPOSED TO LIKE ANY OF THE GAMES LOLLOLOL FAGFACE BRO GO PLAY HALO REACHAROUND

Blobert's post highlights an important issue. Being a consoletard is not really about playing a dumb game and having fun. The true consoletard is the one who plays the dumb game and considers it "teh best gaem evar, 10/10" and such.

I'm just pointing this out because, lately, this "haters gonna hate" attitude is being used by undercover consoletards in order to discredit valid criticism against certain games.

Not that much of a "guilty pleasure", but I was suprised to like Afro Samurai more than I thought I would : for a beat 'em all, the gameplay was rather bad. Platforming was tedious, combats were shitty without focus - and too easy with it.

The game's redeeming qualities were a good artistic design, great music and good voice acting. The fact that the story was minimalistic helped to set the mood and didn't pollute the action. Even the loading screens (succession and content) were smartly done.

In short : excellent esthetical choices for a bad gameplay.

I agree with this statement except I'd also include Fallout, Deus Ex, and Thief. I could always be doing something that's both fun and constructive instead of wallowing in the mire.

Fallout Tactics maybe?

If you dont know why FT should be a guilty pleasure, read all the vitriols here and in No Mutant Allowed forum to understand.

But Fallout Tactics rocks, baby!

Parasite Eve 2. IT's a horror action RPG with very light element of RPG. I avoid horrors and actions like hell but PE2 is definitely a 3replays game for me. Guilty Pleasure!

GTA4. The game's by all means shit. Terrible mechanics, popamole to the max, looks ugly as Deutsch Scheisseporn, fucked up controls, and I keep playing for some reason. FPP mod helps a bit.

I will openly claim to really enjoy the Madden NFL games.

Also, I haven't played very many jRPGs, but I still enjoyed FF7 and FF8. The over-the-top campiness of those games made them enjoyable to me.

Alpha Protocol and Elemental

Liked Mass Effect and KOTOR 1 and 2.

Going back, well I actually enjoy the ride in COD games. I liked Bioshock.

Morrowind and Fallout 3(modded like fuck though and not for long).

Hmm, Gothic 3 but I played with CP so not sure if that counts.

A whole bunch of 'shit' games according to Codex, shooters mostly.

Similarly to Jimbob, I really enjoy Morrowind more than I should. It's objectively mediocre and I can't say which elements exactly I like except for the atmosphere and lore... combat sucks, I never managed to finish the main quest of either MW or its expansions, but I love it. Like Jimbob said, it just "feels like home". Was rather impressed by it back when I first played it and the setting is just awesome.

Also, I'd probably list Paradox games here, too. Most of the time when I play them I go like "eeeh... it's just map-painting and it's not really that fun anyway and it takes so long you could do something productive instead or play something more fun" but then I somehow manage to spend hours on those.

Exploration.
Also, playing as a pure caster (not necessarily of a magic predisposed race - make yourself an Atronach-born Nord Sorcerer and have fun summoning frost atronachs for mana recharge, for example) and experimenting with creative spells.

It is a very flawed game, but I don't consider it my guilty pleasure, as I think it fully deserves praise (unlike, for example heavily modded oblivious with deadly reflex and so on, which can be entertaining enough to suck your time away without actually being good) - not for all the stuff it does horribly wrong, but for what it does terribly right.

Playing BG1 I would probably class as guilty, only I'm not sure if it can be considered pleasure.

Topic title should be changed to "what games do you like that aren't codex approved", so here's my list:

Morrowind - lots has been covered by some other posters here; I don't even use any mods except for GCD

Settlers 3 - it was the first of the series I played so it has a nostalgia feeling attached to it; also I completely hated the combat mechanic in the previous ones

Heroes IV - I only played the vanilla version, no expansions, and I had a blast with the campaigns

Warcraft 3 - I don't get the hatred towards it, I mean I haven't really played a lot of skirmish partly because I suck partly because the heroes seem really imbalanced from what I've seen (I assujme that's what attracts most of its antipathy), but the campaigns were awesome with varied mission objectives, and not to mention the sheer hours I spent playing it's custom maps.

I could probably include HoMM3, though it would cause much butthurt.

What is HoMM3, after all? A simplistic little game, with simplistic little combat, simplistic little world, pretty graphics, pretty music and addictive as fuck.

Also Dreamfall. I'm generally anti-interactive movies, but I'd being lying of I said that I didn't enjoy both Longest Journey games.

Dynasty and Samurai Warriors series, its purest form of hack & slash with poor graphics, sounds and map design but I still quite enjoy them.

I really don't get the HoMM appeal, for some reason. It's certainly pretty, and sounds good, but the gameplay just feels so damn basic. I always end up just giving up after a few turns and going to play something that's a master of a few things instead of a jack of all trades. Seems like it'd be fun in multiplayer, though.

UFO: Aftermath. Bad RTwP, no real base management, awful open space and two-phased alien bases maps, but still I enjoyed the Post-Apocalyptic atmosphere of it, capturing new bases, the beginning gameplay which basically was scavenging human made weapons and overall story and look of the cities area. Too bad Mythos never had occasion to finish Dreamland Chronicles, since UFO: Aftermath is based on the concept of it.

Hence a guilty pleasure. For some reason it's pretty addictive, which results in you wondering what exactly you were doing for the last several hours and experiencing intense confusion, guilt and discomfort.

Heh, Civilization did this to me for years. Probably still would if I start it up. That's what makes it and HOMM3 such good little games.

What the... are those supposed to be the Adepta Sororitas? I was under the impression they're were bulkier, less feminine and frankly uglier than that.
