Your ignore list.
Continuing on my quest of trying out the newshit by myself, I've reached this new low in my gaming life, therefore:

Besides uninstall.exe and "C:\>Deltree /y C:\*.*" on a dos prompt, I come forth to ask my fellow comrades that play this game what mods they use.

I'm mostly interested in mods that enhance the user interface, or simply make the pipboy more usable without so many layers of information. I know it's "atmospheric" to use the supplied interface and clicking 200 times to see whatever information you're after, like finding out how much karma you have, however after a while this grows tiresome. I've already download the MTUI mod which makes things a whole lot better for anyone that dares to play such a marvelous game in an antiquated platform like the PC, with its retarded high resolutions and mouse interface.

I would like to avoid anything that changes the core gameplay though (for now), as I want to see what Bethesderp has accomplished before having to install a database software on my computer to change the game from its mangled state into something more usable. Hopefully it won't come to that, however such hypothesis should not be disregarded. Also, I wouldn't like to have those nude mods or animated prostitution ones. I've got 3DSexVilla to cover that aspect :wink:. But don't consider this as a discouragement to list your favorite sex mods, nor gameplay altering mods, after all some people might make good use of what they read in here.

Get DarnUI. 'Tis good. Allows you to toggle a lot of the information to always show up on the HUD.

Fallout 3 is entertaining enough if you (1) use mods, (2) don't use VATS, (3) ignore the main quest and (4) don't go into it thinking that you are going to get the "Fallout" experience, since this is a sequel in name only.

That being said, I also recommend DarnUI for the interface. If you have broadband and patience for large downloads, I also recommend the high-texture packs -- there's one for Megaton, Rivet City, the rocks, the roads, the sky, the moon, etc. (Since you will be staring at the landscape a lot, you might as well make it prettier.)

When you have had enough of Bethesda's gameplay (should take all of 30 minutes), try the overhaul FOOK 2 (FallOut Overhaul Kit, version 2). Combine it with Mart's Mutant Mod (MMM) and Weapon Mod Kits. FOOK started as a weapons overhaul, and has steadily grown into a 1 gigabyte plus download, changing many things. MMM is good for adding variety and tougher things to kill. Weapon Mod Kits give you the ability to customize many weapon types, like adding a scope to your preferred rifle, that sort of thing. Adding multiple kits to a weapon is possible, so you can theoretically add a scope, laser sight, and extended clip to a .44 pistol and snipe with it. The trick is to find the mod kits, since they are a new form of treasure in the game.

I can't imagine playing Fallout 3 without mods at this point, and I think I've spent more time (total) adding mods to Fallout 3 installations than actually playing it. As usual with Bethesda, the modders have taken what would ordinarily be yet another crap game and actually made it worth messing around with.

I like F3, so I guess im not a kool kodexer...

Im currently playing through it with the following mods installed:

MMM - Martigens Mutant Mod - adds a variety of creatures and NPC's as well as makes some gameplay changes.

http://forums.bethsoft.com/?showtopic=1053764

XFO - Gives you a whole bunch of options to make gameplay changes. This one is my favorite mod because you can control how much ammo is in the game, how many stim paks there are etc....makes for a more realistic and challenging game.

http://home.comcast.net/~xodarap777/XFO ... rrent.html
And I installed a couple of mods to expand some cities and add shady sands into the game.

Arefu Expanded - this one expands the town and adds some non-combat oriented quests (much needed)

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8976

Installed this one to add Shady Sands but haven found it yet in the game:

If you don't want to spend ages adding tons of mods, this seems to be a good one that adds lots of things at once.It tries to make the FPS part of the game more fun (since you can't get rid of it). It's compatible with the others Malachi mentioned, if you want to use them too.

================================================================================

Overview of Changes

================================================================================

Fallout 3 Wanderers Edition (FWE) is a major overhaul mod for Fallout 3 that changes underlying game mechanics and adds new features to the game. The aim of the mod is to improving the challenge, sense of immersion, depth of gameplay, and range of options compared the vanilla game. Generally, you'll find the wasteland to be a more dynamic but far less forgiving place.

FWE's development is guided by two objectives. The first is to enhance the First-Person-Shooter (FPS) elements of the game (while still preserving non-FPS options). This includes making combat faster paced, exciting, and more player-skill based. The second objective is to enhance the role-playing elements of the game by emphasizing choices and consequences, balance, character development, immersion, and the range of viable options. Both these objectives aim to increase the replay value of Fallout 3.

Installed the Darnified UI, much better now.

I will avoid these mods that alter gameplay for now, as I've mentioned, but keep them coming. I will also take a look at some of those texture packs, whoever I've seen on some of them that some textures were not simply enhanced, but altered. I also hated those mods that change the ambient lighting and stuff, just kills the post apocalyptic atmosphere completely.

Well... I couldn't resist and downloaded the animated prostitution mod along with the Project D (over 500mb), which consists of nude female bodies and textures :oops:

It the game fails at least I will have wanking material for a while.

Not buried deep enough
I always kind of liked Fellout.

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2672

I know that you just complained about altering the lighting and whatever, but this is one that I feel really enhances the look of the game, bringing the lighting more in tune with the burned out brightness of the original games. It can also provide a pretty decent performance bump depending on the age of your rig.

Yea, I took at look at Fellout, but as I said, it changes the lighting too much, it almost doesn't feel like the same game and removes that oppressive atmosphere of the game in my opinion.
