As for that MCA interview, what is this about owners of Obsidian wanting to sell it? Is this first such news?!

Nope. Even Feargus Urquhart said so several times before.

He's probably referring to this interview: http://www.rpgcodex.net/article.php?id=10360

Q: So what do you want from the next 13 years? Do you still want to be independent?

FU: I am fine being independent in 13 years. I would be okay if we got purchased, but I would be fine independent.

It seems like a rather mean-spirited interpretation of Feargus' words.

What's amazing about that interview is that the interviewer is very obviously trying to get MCA to talk shit about Bethesda, but he'd rather talk shit about Obsidian (and make excuses for Beth). :hero:

Ha. So, just bitterness towards Obsidian or changing the sheets in Bethesda's bed to bunk with Todd? Or both?

I think the most charitable interpretation is that Chris saw that the interviewer was expecting him to indulge the whole "Fallout 4 and Bethesda SUCK, Fallout: New Vegas and Obsidian RULE" narrative and decided to spoil it as an iconoclastic gesture. Like kind of a "Fuck you, fanboy, life is more complex than that" thing.

They've known each other for more than 20 years and worked as partners for more than 10. Maybe for someone who knows him that well, being ok with being purchased means he wants it.

Not very diplomatic, but yeah sounds plausible. Isn't he also in Zenimax's payroll with Arkane on Prey? Came to mind that he wouldn't bite the hand that feeds (or could feed if there are plans towards that).

Anybody knows what's his new twitter pic?

A man inside a flame in a picture that looks plain enough that it could be ripped from Fallout 4. I bet some tinfoils start to overheat underneath the headwear.

Maybe Bethesda could hire Avellone to work on a Fallout MMORPG. That way he could work with the franchise at its core.

I think it's pretty obvious that MCA wants to be on good terms with Bethesda. I think it'd be a waste for him to be employed by them because nothing can fix their writing, really, but it's his call to make.

I interpret that a bit differently myself. As in, he knows first-hand that Obsidian's management wouldn't mind selling the company, but he can't just say so publicly due to the NDA - so he uses "based on recent interviews" as an excuse.

Personally, I find it rather unlikely that MCA, as ex-coowner, doesn't actually know what Feargus wants, and is only going off a mean-spirited interpretation of his interviews. But of course, who knows.

I like Chris Avellone's work as much as the next guy, but its a bit crass to go out and not so subtly smear your former employers in an interview. Dude is better to just keep quiet about it all. It comes across like he really wants in at Bethesda, but I doubt even he could fix their shit to be honest.

He was a co-owner of Obsidian, not an employee.
And even it he was, the concept of "employee loyalty" is the fucking burgeoiseiseise owning workers souls. Fuck that.

It's never a waste to be on good terms with people in power. :russiastronk::mrpresident:

I always feel there's something fundamental wrong with Bethesda writing department. Either the boss of that dep, a very long time member of company, or a founder who has huge influence on that dep, is the key to their status from long ago. I mean, think about it. code and map design change from Morrowind to Oblivion to (maybe) Skyrim and Fallout 3 but writing level still stay the same: juvenile pretentious crap.
