on the thoughtful philosophical approach of bioware's ME3 ending
http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/qwfp2/an_open_letter_to_bioware_and_casey_hudson/c410zqo
I feel like that was at least in part the point of the story/ending though, that choice ultimately was an illusion in the grand scheme of things. So to me it's a little like saying "I didn't like what the story told me", which is fair enough of course. I'm not suggesting that people who disliked the story are wrong, simply that for me it made a lot of sense in respect to the overall plotline. So I enjoyed it.
There are substantial plot holes, many of which have nothing whatsoever to do with the ending. You can fill them in to some extent with your imagination, whether you should have to or not is debatable. I'm not saying what Bioware did here was perfect, I could list a whole bunch of complaints about some of the dialogue in the game and other aspects of the plot etc. I thought the ending and the main missions that approached the ending were really the best part of the game though.
capitalism wins again
on the correct intepretation of mass effect 3
http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comm...fect_was_supposed_to_be_like_possible/c41e5bw
Basically, people miss this by a mile. So does the graphic, they miss that ME3 is in itself basically one long ending that's telling you the consequences of your previous choices throughout even wrapping up characters, having them settled down into different jobs (why they weren't back on your team anymore, they'd moved on and their plots had mostly resolved since their initial involvement with the story) and niches in life
that's right son bioware is so innovative that they made the ending for mass effect series into an entire game people haven't realised it yet
http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/355/index/9999272/72
I've ... loved this game. I was emotionally attached. I'm not kidding. I have a PhD. I'm a 49 year old father of two, both of my kids loved this game too. I pre-ordered 3 copies of the collector's edition.
And I just want to cry.
How .. how can the game be so sublimly good for the first 90% ( I was into Tali, played the game right and didn't lose anyone I wasn't forced to, got to sit on her homeworld talking about our future ), and then just ... fail. The incongruity here is what keeps making me think there *must* be more. Its like watching a world class tennis player lose to .. well me.
Can this really be it?
And let me tell you. I have no pride here. I'm not interested in 'teaching bioware a lesson', I don't care about paying for DLC. If they said 'we screwed up, give us 6 months and we'll have something for you' ... I'd preorder 3 more copies.
This *isn't* a game. This is interactive literature of great quality. That seems to have been defaced.
further educated proof that games are art and touch men's souls
and now on a general note
why high professional review scores are actually more objective compared to user scores
There isn't some conspiracy. Reviewers use a methodological approach and try to remain objective. They review "the total package" and don't tear the whole game to shreds of one of two things are poor or less than perfect.
Players on the other hand often react emotionally to one or two things about the game. Even if the game has all sorts of great qualities a fan of a series may give a game a terrible score because they didn't like this-or-that about the story or some new element in the game.
Example: I loved Dead Space. I hated Dead Space 2. I would give Dead Space 2 one or two out of 5 stars. Yet its metacritic score is in the high 80s and low 90s. Why? Because I went in to it as a fan of the first game, with a high attachment to the first game, and was disspointed because the game didn't preserve the elements about the first game. Objectively speaking was Dead Space 2 a bad game? Probably not. If you are in to third person shooting action games I'm sure it's great. I'm not into those types of games. I'm into slow horror games. DS1 was a slow horror game and I loved it.
I think my example illustrates it. An emotionally attached fan and a professional reviewer evaluate based on different criteria. That's not a good thing, or a bad thing, it just "is." Let the plurality of opinion and the opinions of others in similar situations to you guide you.
yes completely different criteria are factored into the scoring process if you're a pro games reviewer
