If you mean the guy with the newspaper, that's Tommy Lee Jones not Tony. I would enlist but I do not check threads regularly enough to volunteer for missions most times anyway. Why not play vanilla btw if the modders have turned up such a steaming pile of masochist manna.

An observant reader, huh?
Thank you, Andy.

I would enlist but I do not check threads regularly enough to volunteer for missions most times anyway.
Volunteering for missions is totally 2011.

Why not play vanilla btw if the modders have turned up such a steaming pile of masochist manna.
So... What do you suggest? Should I start over or what?

Anyway...

:rpgcodex:

I've tried to beat next battle using a setup which would allow us to gain some JP:

ta101.jpg

Ramza - Geomancer
Bee - Dragoon
WC - Ninja
Steve - Chemist
DR - Dragoon

Unfortunately, there were some... problems.

:(

17. Goug Lowtown

Video 32. Goug - Before the battle

So, to my surprise, it looks that we underestimated the power of the Church

bGMjF.jpg

We face 2 ninjas, 2 thieves and 2 summoners - all of them male

:decline:

ta102.jpg

Fags have some good equipment / abilities

ta103.jpg

ta104.jpg

Attempt #1

First attempt went to shit quickly - Mustadio is unarmed + I did not set 'Reequip' command for him earlier + he decides to stay in front and goes down quickly

ta105.jpg

Main reason of our epic fail was Steve - poor bastard was too slow to cast something strong enough to damage enemies

ta106.jpg

Enemy summoners aren't very strong

ta107.jpg

But they are not the main threat here - ninjas are.
Steve is able to cast Golem, which is kinda useful. But shortly after that we lose Bee

ta108.jpg

TJb8E.jpg

:decline:

Steve is useful as an executioner

ta109.jpg

We lose Ramza, WC and Steve quickly. Re-raise works:

ta110.jpg

But it's not enough for us to win this battle - too many enemies who can own our low-on-HP units easily.
Bee does not help - she keeps hitting our units / reviving enemies

ta111.jpg

JfVRt.jpg

: x

When she goes back to her senses, one of the summoners turns her into stone. DR vs. 6 enemies?

ta112.jpg

<<

Attempt #2

I switch Ramza to Knight (sapping MP from summoners) and Bee to Samurai (ranged damage). Other guys stay unchanged:

ta113.jpg

Shit looks bad from the start:

ta114.jpg

:(

The key to winning this battle is the beginning. I try different things 2-3 times before I come up with this:

DR goes airborne, targeting one of the ninjas:

ta115.jpg

With CT=17 faggit should not act before DR lands. Bee releases katana's spirit:

ta116.jpg

Ramza is disabled anyway... Steve is too slow to cast Bahamut (that would target 5/6 of enemies...). But Odin should do:

ta117.jpg

ta118.jpg

DR lands, owning 1st ninja, Steve damages three other enemies

ta119.jpg

Ninja #2 does something stupid (Aim+4). DR is faster, saving Steve's ass:

ta120.jpg

Steve terminates one of summoners

ta121.jpg

Summoner #2 revives Ninja #2, who aims at Steve's ass again. WC stops this faggotry:

ta122.jpg

With 3 enemies and 5 allies on map, winning is easy. Bee owns Summoner #2

ta123.jpg

Remaining thieves rape Mustadio, Steve and Ramza, but our 3 units are enough to deal with them. Plus, we have some dark tricks at our disposal too:

ta124.jpg

lVREQ.jpg

:troll:

DR claims another life

ta125.jpg

We play around with remaining thief till all enemies crystallize. WC improves his ninja skills thanks to that:

ta126.jpg

Steve learns another summon

ta127.jpg

Ramza inclines as well

ta128.jpg

We grab 2 Headbands too

ta129.jpg

DR ends the battle

ta130.jpg

ta131.jpg

Video 33. Besrudio's Rescue

ta134.jpg

We can check new stuff in Chronicle - Artefacts:

ta135.jpg

Dragon Ball #1 obtained!

ta136.jpg

FcJu1.jpg

The path that we took to reach Goug is inaccessible now. We have to use different one to reach Lionel Castle:

ta137.jpg

But before that - moar manly discussions!

Video 34. Delita's Warning

ta138.jpg

Man, I don't understand how could I miss all these homosexual undertones while playing the game back in the 90-ties. It's like Top Gun all over again...

We reach the city of Warjilis without problems. Nothing new in the shop, sadly. When we try to leave the city, a man gets raped:

Video 35. The Cardinal's Wrath

ta139.jpg

:mhd:

Ramza learns Speedsap

ta140.jpg

Bee learns Defense Boost and Wind Blast

ta141.jpg

WC learns Beastmaster, HJump5, Knife, Katana & Ninja Blade

ta142.jpg

DR learns Dragonheart

ta143.jpg

Steve and Guzu learn concentration, Mustadio learns Reequip and Treasure Hunter

ta144.jpg

It's time to save a damsel in distress!

ta145.jpg

Brofist this ONLY if you still live in your parents' basement.

Nicely done. Dealing with ninjas is usually a bitch. The AI like to gang up on low hp units, and ninjas are actually built for that, unlike most classes.

Wait a sec...

It's visible AFTER you choose it - when using the 'Show turns' or whatever option in menu. But not when CHOOSING commands for DR (press Right on unit 'Commands' menu).

Want to trade LPs spekkio? I can plow through FFT with your crappy units and you can get a bunch of codexers murdered despite the massive advantage I already made for myself in Brigandine. I'm sure everyone will be more entertained this way. :troll:

We should use following team:

Ramza - Geomancer (-> Ninja)
Bee - Dragoon (-> Dragonheart)
Steve, Guzu, Sov - Chemist (-> Remedy)

ta201.jpg

ta202.jpg

18. Balias Swale

It's the famous redhead again!

ta203.jpg

ta204.jpg

pBowI.gif

ta205.jpg

When suddenly!

ta206.jpg

ta207.jpg

:yeah:

ta208.jpg

And protect they did!

:smug:

One attempt was enough (plus 2 quickloads, due to Agrias dying - man, escort missions are the best...)

Enemy team consists of 2 white mages, 2 mystics and 2 knights. Fags have good equipment and abilities:

ta209.jpg

And some of them use weird setups:

ta210.jpg

But before the raep:

ta211.jpg

ta212.jpg

ta213.jpg

ta214.jpg

ta215.jpg

ta216.jpg

ta217.jpg

ta218.jpg

:obviously:

AI starts by breaking Agrias' sword

ta219.jpg

Which makes her more or less useless for the rest of the fight. She doesn't have 'Re-equip' neither set NOR learned - weird, since I'm 100% sure I did that before...

ta220.jpg

4jlUb.jpg

Sov's 'Invigoration' is damn powerful and has the highest accuracy among all his Mystic Arts:

ta221.jpg

Guzu doesn't fuck around as well - it's bahamutan time!

ta222.jpg

Chemists can be deadly when equipped with guns - high damage AND range

ta223.jpg

Guzu delivers big time:

ta226.jpg

As you can see, one of mystics is cheating (Mana Shield)

Everything goes well, so AI decides to fuck us up - knight owns Agrias, doing 256 damage

glTBL.jpg

ta224.jpg

ta225.jpg

Kup1E.jpg

<<

This time Agrias survives

ta227.jpg

But both Guzu and Sov go to sleep

ta228.jpg

Ramza owns one of the whites

ta229.jpg

Bee does the same with first mystic

ta230.jpg

Second mystic casts Preach (Re-raise) on herself, which begins Steve's EXP-farming - he will keep killing her over and over

ta231.jpg

ta233.jpg

ta234.jpg

ta245.jpg

:troll:

White #2 revives his comrade

ta232.jpg

Bee reaches the rest of the team ALMOST in time - her Geomancy is too weak to save Agrias

ta235.jpg

ta236.jpg

n5uKz.jpg

<<

Change of plans:

ta237.jpg

:obviously:

Thanks to Guzu and good equipment, Agrias is able to survive

ta238.jpg

Steve casts Golem, which pays off quickly

ta239.jpg

Ramza and Steve are able to own one of the whites again

ta240.jpg

Radaint AI tries to kill Agrias again:

ta241.jpg

ta242.jpg

liNz9.jpg

Ramza owns 2nd whitey thanks to additional attack of Coral sword:

ta243.jpg

ta244.jpg

Agrias tries to get herself killed again, but luckily for us, enemy's counter puts her to sleep this time

ta246.jpg

Ramza owns one of the knights

ta247.jpg

ta248.jpg

<<

PHnyh.jpg

ta249.jpg

:troll:

Remaining mystic fails her Re-raise at last, which allows Steve to finally deal with her for good

ta250.jpg

And grab a new item

ta251.jpg

Bee grabs some loot as well

ta252.jpg

Sov eats a soul

ta253.jpg

And Guzu ends the battle with a bang

ta254.jpg

:salute:

ta255.jpg

ta256.jpg

ta257.jpg

ta258.jpg

Haste my ass - we will make it as slow as possible!

:rpgcodex:

ta259.jpg

ta260.jpg

:decline:

ta261.jpg

:incline:

Of course, I'm not going to use her...

The path changes again - we're not able to reach Lionel Castle - we have to visit another place instead:

ta262.jpg

But before that, we should do some shopping and equalizing. New items available:

ta263.jpg

Osafune - Attack 10, Block 35

ta264.jpg

Iron Flail - Attack 8, Block 10

We can also buy Mage's Staffs finally (mAT +2).

ta265.jpg

Flame Shield - pEV 31, mEV 10, Absorbs Fire, Halves Ice, Weak 2 Water
Ice Shield - pEV 28, mEV 10, Absorbs Ice, Halves Fire, Weak 2 Lightning

I prefer regular shields, but special ones may come in handy against certain bosses...

ta266.jpg

Diamond Helm - HP+100

Ramza learns Counter Tackle, mastering his Squire job. He's very close to reaching Geo Lv 3, which will unlock Ninja...

ta267.jpg

Agrias learns Cleansing Strike and Reequip. Let's hope she won't be forced upon us in some special battle...

ta268.jpg

Bee learns Dragonheart, Salve, Counter Tackle, Magma Surge, Shiruken and Bomb. When we grab these katanas that can heal upon use, she should switch to Ninja/Dancer. But for now:

ta269.jpg

Steve learns Chant and switches to Time Mage - he needs Lv 4 in this job (Sage)

ta270.jpg

Guzu learns Chant and switches to Thief - she still has dragoon job locked...

ta271.jpg

DR spends some of his spare JP, learning Beastmaster, Counter Tackle, Arcane Defense and Defense Boost. Should I switch him to something else than Dragoon?

ta272.jpg

QIqiM.jpg

Sov learns Safeguard, mastering Chemist. He still lacks Dragonheart, which should be fixed ASAP:

ta273.jpg

One 'green' location is enough if you need random encounter...

ta274.jpg

This one is one of the easiest so far:

ta275.jpg

:decline:

Guzu is even able to steal Diamond Helm from the knight

ta276.jpg

:incline:

Usual rape except of that.
Ramza learns Shuriken and Bomb and switches to ninja:

ta277.jpg

Steve and Guzu switch back to chemists, but grabbing new items and abilities (Guzu learns Dragonheart)

ta278.jpg

ta279.jpg

DR is ready to kick more ass:

ta280.jpg

ta281.jpg

So is Sov (still not enough JP to learn Dragonheart):

ta282.jpg

It's time to kill some oldfags!

ta262.jpg

:obviously:

Since I tested next battle, and once again wasn't able to kill the enemy boss (he's using a sword that heals him for ~90 HP), I decided to take certain steps to prevent such faggotry...

ta283.jpg

ta284.jpg

Modding at it's best - the only way of winning is to plan ahead...

Brofist this ONLY if you're Chefe's alt.

Notice Sov has less PA and more MA than I do despite being in the same class/gear. Character stat growth is influenced sliightly by what class they've been gaining levels in.

As far as staying in Dragoon... it's pretty much an end game class. Full heavy armor and long range heavy physical damage with concentrate built in. The only reason to pick up other classes would be to learn certain abilities (attack up and abandon reflexes would both be pretty awesome. Wow, I didn't realize reflexes was so cheap. You should pick that up on anyone using a shield + mantle ASAP.) Teleport is also the best movement ability in the game hands down, but Time Mage is pretty out of the way for physical classes and it's a rather expensive skill.

Also, give everyone flame shields and then go spamming Asura to heal them while hurting enemies. You need a jrpg cheesing tutorial or something Spek-kun. This is basic stuff.

I don't think they'd be able to change that very easily, most of the changes are done to active abilities. I think they just sprinkled in enemies/abilities with concentrate to make it a bit less overpowered. But the AI is completely retarded and I'd love to see them take a swing from the front at someone with doubled 50% physical evade.

I think the end of Chapter 2 is close - each fight is shittier than the previous one...

We should use following team:

Ramza, Bee and Steve
DR & Guzu

ta301.jpg

ta302.jpg

19. Golgollada Gallows

The beginning of the battle is full of

blah.gif

Video 36. Golgollada Gallows - Before the battle

ta380.jpg

Enemies don't look that bad: 3 monks, 2 archers and 2 time mages

ta303.jpg

ta304.jpg

ta305.jpg

As you can see, they have kick-ass skills and better equipment than us. But main problem in this battle is this gentleman:

ta306.jpg

Great equipment, can damage+heal even with 0 MP and can steal shit from us.

Once again - fuck you, modder guys.

As you could see in the video, old man's charm was too much for Guzu - she joined enemies right away.

ta319.jpg

ta320.jpg

As I remember from vanilla game, 'charmed' units acted retarded most of the time, mostly using melee attacks (or maybe I'm confusing this with confuse?). In 1.3 it's not the case - charmed unit acts as it was under direct control of the AI - same way as regular enemies do... More on this later.

Attempt #1

DR is great at dealing with enemy mages. At least when he can jump:

ta307.jpg

ta308.jpg

Steve prepares Bahamut

ta309.jpg

ta310.jpg

If we have Guzu under control, enemies would be history - 2 bahamuts should be enough to kill 2-3 of them. Unfortunately, after ~20 seconds of 'thinking', AI decides to use bahamut against us:

ta311.jpg

:(

AI uses monks in wise way - their 'Shockwave' can heal archers for example:

ta312.jpg

DR fails us for mysterious reason:

ta313.jpg

ta314.jpg

:decline:

Bee kicks tremendous ass

ta315.jpg

Steve would be able to finish off 2 enemies using Shiva

ta316.jpg

But Guzu betrays us again

ta317.jpg

:rage:

With Ramza and Steve KOed, Guzu charmed and Bee Disabled

ta318.jpg

I decide to pull out the plug...

<<

Attempt #2

Same units, only Steve and Guzu switched places - maybe Gaff will start with something else except Charm? Maybe he will fail? After all, his chances are < 40%?

:reaction guys - 2nd pic:

ta321.jpg

:reaction guys - 4th pic:

Fuck this shit! If I wanted random fucking game I would've played X-Com...

:rpgcodex:

<<

ta322.jpg

:troll:

Of course, the battle goes smooth as fuck from now on.

Fuck, I hate random fucking games like this. Especially when AI succeeds most of the time with < 40% chance and I fail most of the time with >70% chance...

But during this attempt we were lucky as fuck, though.

Enemy monk tries to bore Bee and Guzu to death, but fails

ta323.jpg

Enemy mage tries to stop Steve form raping an archer from behind, but of course fails

ta324.jpg

DR deals with her moments later, Mario-style

ta325.jpg

Guzu bahamuts the shit out of 2 monks, killing one of them right away

ta326.jpg

Babble time!

ta327.jpg

ta328.jpg

ta329.jpg

ta330.jpg

ta331.jpg

ta332.jpg

Gaff tries his chances with Bee, but fails again

ta333.jpg

Ramza kills one of archers

ta334.jpg

Enemy monk fails his Cyclone horribly, missing all 3 targets

ta335.jpg

Another monk tries to disable Guzu, but misses (of course)

ta336.jpg

AI got my usual 'miss every time' flag by mistake, or what?

:rpgcodex:

Ramza survives another attack

ta337.jpg

DR fails same way as before

ta338.jpg

ta339.jpg

WTF is going on here? Has Archer's Bane something to do with Jump?
Or maybe the damage is displayed incorrectly?

:(

Bee owns the monk who tried to turn Guzu into goddamn katawa shoujo...

ta340.jpg

Gaff steals Bee's katana

ta341.jpg

But she can still Draw another one from... Well, you don't have to know...

:smug:

Ramza weakens remaining archer, Steve ends the job with bahamut

ta342.jpg

3 enemies left

:incline:

Remaining monk revives KOed mage, recently KOed archer goes back to life thanks to Dragonheart:

ta343.jpg

5 enemies left

:decline:

Ramza survives n-th attack

ta344.jpg

DR and Steve kill both mages

ta345.jpg

Guzu does the same with the archer

ta346.jpg

2 enemies left

:incline:

Ramza scores another kill, owning the monk - he survived 3/4 of the battle with 39 HP

ta347.jpg

Now for the funny part - dealing with Gaff. He can damage+heal us from a distance:

ta348.jpg

But we're prepared

ta349.jpg

ta350.jpg

ta351.jpg

ta352.jpg

:yeah:

No quickloads required!
Some time later, Ramza steals Gaff's sword as well

ta353.jpg

ta354.jpg

Required 2 quickloads (I've decided to go full POPAMOLE since it's faster than doing this in 3-5 turns...)

Guzu loots another cloak from enemy corpse

ta355.jpg

Gaff decides to pay Ramza back, stealing his weapon (one thing is certain - he didn't use quickloads...)

ta356.jpg

Too bad that Ramza is dual wielding

:smug:

Ramza continues the fun, aiming for the armor

ta357.jpg

ta358.jpg

1st try this time!
Bee devours another enemy spirit

ta359.jpg

Steve does the same to the west

ta360.jpg

DR to the east

ta361.jpg

Ramza loses his Cloak of Gayness +5

ta362.jpg

:(

Gaff is finally able to corrupt Bee's heart

ta363.jpg

But Guzu forcefully ends this relationship

ta364.jpg

We gangrape Gaff till he has enough

ta365.jpg

ta366.jpg

ta367.jpg

ta368.jpg

ta369.jpg

ta370.jpg

ta371.jpg

Video 37. The Manipulative and the Subservient

ta372.jpg

:salute:

New profile available:

ta373.jpg

We can reach Lionel Castle finally

ta374.jpg

But since the battle that we're going to fight there is one of the most broken so far, we have to prepare...

Ramza switches to knight (so he can use Blood Sword) and equips best stuff

ta375.jpg

Bee learns Osafune just in case (hurting enemy mages)

ta376.jpg

Steve learns Remedy and Holy Water

ta377.jpg

Guzu learns Remedy, Holy Water, Arcane Defense and Steal Weapon

ta378.jpg

DR sets Arcane Defense

ta379.jpg

We're gonna do it!

About the wrong damage display for jumps: I mentioned this before, but the damage being displayed is what you would deal if you hit them while they were charging. Since Jump and Charge command take a while, chances are the enemy spell/command will go off before you hit, and you'll only do normal damage instead of getting the 50% boost. If it all possible, it's better to prioritize charging units with a ninja or archer or someone who can hit them hard immediately, while the damage bonus is in effect.

Speaking of ninjas, you're at or approaching the point in the game where barehanded attacks get really overpowered. Try loading up a unit with as much PA boosting equipment as you can (Jujitsu Gi/Twist Heaband/Power Bracer for example), Martial Arts + Two Swords (either a ninja with the monk passive or vice versa) and no weapon.

Now I'm kind of wishing I'd built towards that kind of character. Much simpler to use and more effective late game when the levels are so high. I'd thought they'd taken out the evasion reaction skill though, so ninjas wouldn't be as good.
