Well it was inevitable that they were going to add aliens as their fan base needs a new enemy and this one will feature zerg that is trying to spread communism in America. Also when you have a studio admitting that this is their fan base it really isn't a surprise why they would add them.

Better aliens than zombie Nazi russians.

Ouch, that is going to hurt for MS. A lot of cod-tards that were planning to get the xbone will now consider the PS4 instead.

Jesus fuck. "Digital Hardened Edition" costs $120. That's one hundred and twenty American dollars, for the season pass and some extra skins.

Yeah.

Gotta see this more relaxed and practical: Even if the common denominator of multi-platform development will be the XBone, it's still a huge step forward over Xbox 360 ports. It's better to have common art-assets and gameplay used across all platforms, and offset weaknesses of an individual platform via resolution and AA and other minor shit I don't give a damn about.

It's not a PS4 versus Wii U scenario, so I'm good.

I sorta admire the gun porn that is CoD: Modern Warfare but are any of the CoD games any good for single player? Or is it only the multiplayer that's worthwhile.

I haven't played either fully, but I actually enjoyed the first two games a good amount. Cod4, and maybe Cod3 but I never played it, is where scripted sequences became a cheap focus rather than just cool shit happening around the firefight.

Even Call of Duty 4, while over-scripted at times, has very good pacing and mission variety. It's excellent at what it intends to do, even if what it does is not something people enjoy. For me it was only around World at War and Modern Warfare 2 where the entire formula really started to go off the rails and lose a lot of steam.

Cod4 had some good moments on the American side of the campaign where it had you actually shooting stuff, but the British half was terrible, over-scripted bullshit most of the time. That Chernobyl mission that everybody cums over was just hardcore waypoint following through a "stealth" filter.

I remember the opening Russian missions of COD2 being kind of boring. It did get a bit more interesting later on, but overall felt like a decline.

COD1 was a fun ride, though. No health regen, mass infantry combat instead of commando spec ops bullshit, wide open fields (even if still ultimately linear). The game world felt dangerous as you crawled painstakingly through the corpse-strewn battlefields. I enjoyed it.

The single-player for the first few CODs was generally pretty decent - they were scripted but not completely OTT. Earlier this week I finally finished the BOPSII campaign after playing it on and off a mission at a time for almost a year and it was basically just crazy explosions everywhere and respawning enemies galore with the plot being completely incoherent.

COD4, 6 and Black Ops 1 are the best scripted linear shooters out there, if you enjoy that kind of thing. They have OK-ish story (on par with Hollywood summer movies) and do not pretend to be anything more -- unlike the pretentious shit like Bioshlock Infinite Shit and Last of Us. Highly polished graphics and generally good voice acting. Good music.

Some of the set-piece moments in those games are really fun (riding a motorcycle with a shotgun, Terminator 2 style, in Black Ops; the "Black Hawk Down" level in COD4; and the entire COD6 feels like a Michael Bay highlight reel).

Just treat them like a dumb summer movie and they're good at what they do.

Modern Warfare 3, World at War and Black Ops 2 on the other hand, feel like they run out inspirations in their set-piece moments.

By CoD 6 do you mean Modern Warfare 2?

I guess if 4 = MW1, 5 = WaW, 6 = MW2, 7 = BO, 8 = MW3, 9 = BO2

10 = Ghosts

Christ, that's a lot of games. [sassy insult here].

Never bought a single CoD game in my life so stop putting words into my mouth you asshat.
Why? It would make a fitting addition to the rest of your Day 1 purchases

...says the clown who Day1 purchases Alpha versions of clunky, unfun military simulators.
