What "simulator route"? How it simulates commanding a front when it's a game about 1 person manually pushing zillions of counters?
A simulation like War in the East uses complex systems in an attempt to recreate rather than simply represent. Obviously WitE does so imperfectly, especially given its sheer scope (it's hard enough just to simulate a goat, much less an entire theater of war), but that difference in design and purposes distinguishes it from Panzer General type games which rely on abstraction and slap a picture of a tank in a hex and assign it a big "combat value" because TANK.
Have you played WitE? Most counters you see do show divisions with combat values, but if you drill down you quickly discover that each counter actually represents individual artillery piece, AFV and squad in a given unit's TOE. Which become fatigued individually, can be destroyed or disrupted individually, and contribute to combat in different ways. Learning to manage all these things is key to becoming an excellent rather than simply good player, and it is why the micro required can become daunting.
