Oh, and there's actually a purpose to the Silent Hunter games in going after other submarines.
No, there is not.
The purpose of a WW II sub simulation is following orders and U-Boat orders were sink merchant ships, other targets had far less priority (attacking warships was risky due to escorts and they fact they could just outrun the sub, sub combat was rare as they were not really made for it and there was no strategic advantage for any side to do it).
You don't just sit there and tool around the ocean.
That is how it was done, go to grid and patrol and try to sink ships ... its not as if in actual war they would fire someone because NOT ENOUGH TONNAGE WAS SUNK! as that was out of the captain control (especially with early torpedoes).
Unless they changed it as the last time I played was the original over a decade ago.
Oh yes, they did ... there are bullshit "objectives" for the Career mode for the "dynamic" campaign as if one U-Boat could change the course of the war, they also made more dumbass moves as a attempt to gain casuals, as if they would bother with a simulation game.
There is more ... much more, on the other hand you can walk around in the sub in FPS mode and start patrols inside the subpens, besides the graphic upgrade.
If you're going to make an attempt at a pseudo witty dismissive remark try not to make such poor analogies and at least let it be logically consistent.
That is because you are a ignorant.
TS3 had many changes, one was "opportunities" that pretty much standard "MMO Quests", they keep adding then in the following expansions.
Why?
Because casuals like goals since they are fucking stupid and unable to grasp the concept of a goaless game, you cannot win at The Sims as the game have no actual Goal for anyone to Win.
That is what many simulations do, Silent Hunter games had no goal besides survive to see the end of the war as its the same if you sink 50 merchants ships over the War or none, it does not matter as long you follow orders.
