Ok i want to talk about this video AGAIN (Actually i want to read some opinions about it)and cause i don't have friends and i'm alone in this world i come to here to talk about it. There's a lot of points that i'm don't agree with, but im talk about two of them:

- The video it's one year old and talk about the boss design AGAIN. I don't understand, i found the bosses of this game interesting in therms of gameplay and some of them are nice in aesthetic design. I think that the first DS bosses are a bit mythified.

- I found the critic of the hitboxes a bit funny, because i suffered "magical" issues with the hitboxes of Taurus demon's mace, Bed of chaos, Artorias superjumps and Manus hand. And i found the autolock in the first DS too. I think that the fact of enemies with infinite stamina is accurate.

I think almost all his criticisms in there are valid, actually. The only ones I really disagree on are the agility thing (I think it's an excellent change, though I wish it tied more into equipment weight somehow) and the multiple enemy complaint. Fighting multiple enemies is pretty much the only way to force the player out of the banal dodge-counter method of fighting that works on every 1v1 fight ever. It forces you to actually position the enemies to your advantage.

I think he's right on the money for everything else though. Yeah, the hitboxes have always been funny, but they weren't nearly as noticeable back when bosses didn't have magical agility to do a 180 degree turn in the last 3 frames of an attack. And he was definitely right about the bosses lacking the atmosphere or uniqueness to make them interesting. Moonlight Butterfly wasn't a terribly complex or difficult fight, but it was interestingly unique. Likewise for Sif and a lot of other fights in the previous two games. DS2 had more challenging fights, but like he said, this mostly boiled down to really narrow timing on when you can dodge their super tracking swings, and the music and bosses themselves often don't fit the situation. DS2 only has a decent number of novel bosses (Chariot is a great one, rat vanguard is nice as well, so was the Flexile Sentry) because the sheer number of boss fights is much higher. Admittedly it's hard not to rehash anything after the first two games, but stuff like the Ornstein fight or the giant rat were really really derivative. I don't even mind that they have a bunch of armoured big sword guys, but there was really no need to rehash previous bosses so exactly, they already had a shitton of other bosses.

The hitbox critique is bullshit since the guy doesn't seem to understand how Agility works in this game (example of bandit starting class trying to roll through Ornstein's attacks). People that can't grasp game mechanics and complain about shit that's untrue just rub me the wrong way. Other shit like shockwaves and grab attacks have always been bullshit. They are just as bad in Bloodborne.

I donno, relistening to that video it seems to make less sense. There's just some really nitpicky stuff like how you start off as a male and then go to character creation instead of just starting at char creation. It just... doesn't matter. Then there's stuff like missing how AGI works or talking about how Dark Souls mechanics are poor for multiple enemy fights when... that was quite common in DS 1; and also that the view is itself objectionable (Freja fight is quite fine, even with the spiders -- if you want to argue there should be better bosses just because then... yeah but we can argue _everything_ should be better.) If I had to roughly quantify the video I'd say that I'm about 1/3rd in agreement and the other 2/3rd I either disagree with or its just minor crap I don't care about.

Initially I was disappointed with DS2 as well but I warmed up to it aloooot.

I've replayed DS 2 way more than DS 1 and found that I can do more varied and interesting things in DS2 in terms of character builds and play styles (self imposed challenges or not.) Online play is also hugely improved in DS 2.

I still hold that DS 1 PVE > DS 2 PVE, and atmosphere n blah blah, but in terms of anything mechanical or gameplay related DS 2 wins by a landslide. Whether it's online, how smooth it runs, ease of use, or functionality (multiple souls, rolling in more than 4 directions, environmental effects from water, various different factions that are actually different in how they work, etc.)

You could probably credibly complain that the flaws still haven't been fixed but DS2 did fix many things from previous installments. It's just that the general level and world design took a hit in the end product and from the sounds of things the DLCs fixed that. I think if they made a third Dark Souls with the improvements from DS2, only tweaking minor things and focusing on bosses, levels and the world it would probably be the best game in the series.
