I don't know if its been recommended (I'm not reading three pages to find out) but you could give Stronghold a whirl. It looks great and its a lot of fun.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Stronghold is great, Crusader is even more fun. But both have the problem that there is no random map generator, that would make these games so much more awesome than they already are. And I kinda need a random map generator to have spontaneous lulz fun with a game, makes it less predictable than chosing premade maps.
