E3 2015: SOUTH PARK: THE FRACTURED BUT WHOLE ANNOUNCED

The follow-up to Stick of Truth will have a superhero theme to it.LUCY O'BRIENUbisoft has revealed South Park: The Fractured But Whole, a super-hero themed RPG for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

The follow-up to South Park: The Stick of Truth is in development not at Obsidian, but at Ubisoft’s own San Francisco studio. The Fractured But Whole retains the first game’s role-playing and turn-based elements, and once again stars a New Kid hero.

South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker are involved again, both in writing and voice performance, with the story following Cartman’s “The Coon” and company.

Ubisoft, you fucks, lol

I wanted to play the first one, but I just couldnt hang with the jrpg format, I bought it, I wanted to like it...but I just kept giving up after the umpteenth battle.
I could see it wasnt terrible, and i still stuck with it longer than any final fantasy (or related franchise) in a long time but still. Maybe when my son is a couple years older ill just watch him play and go drink a beer every time he goes weebo on a trashmob.
ill probably be drunk for like 60hours straight.

Assasins creed meets southpark.
I would definitely play a parkour (sweating grunting and complaining) Cartman, and a sneaky backstabbing Butters.

I see MCA was abandoning ship. Can't even get a sequel gig.

This means they now need to do another kickstarter to stay afloat.
Bueno.

I guess this is what solid metacritic scores and "stronger than expected" sales will getcha with public companies. This isn't unlike what happened with Knights of the Old Republic, where Lucas Arts had their own kotor3 slamdunk going on with an internal studio.

Shitty sequel to a shitty game about a shitty show that jumped the shark almost a decade ago.

Cartman in the trailer about Stick of Truth game: "That was barely even an RPG, Kyle! The combat sucked! We're going to do it bigger, and we will settle for nothing less than a 9.5 on gamespot!"

Ouch.

Lol, they're reusing the engine/framework from the first time. Obsidian dun got screwed by publishers again.

If the new studio makes a better South Park game than the first, does that also make them a better developer than Obsidian?

Starting to make perfect sense why MCA left. As an owner of the company, he would have known about this for a while.

Could he have joined Ubisoft's in-house developer so he could continue to work on the license?

Yeah, Obsidian really has a good thing going with their card games and tank MMOs. :smug:

Also Bubbles's gimmick is dry sarcasm.

I wish it were a gimmick.

They don't need to be an RPG developer to be successful. As long as they can release talent when appropriate (see: MCA), there's no harm in what they're doing.
