1D) The equally pretentions "Sons of Attila", made of Hungarian and Bulgarian light and heavy horse archers whose skills are claimed to be legendary, and price claimed to be the most expensive of all mercenaries due to their rarity. They are also armed with lances, but naturally such is not their strength.

2E) Metal ores and other expendable smithy supplies. There should be infrastructure in the New World to support crafting of weapons there, although obviously at a slower pace due to the smaller population, and there is no telling of how long the war for the New World could take, so having ways and abundant supplies to produce weaponry and armor there could be very strategical useful.
F) The rumor mill says an eccentric inventor was just refused in the "purple" of the Emperor's Palace in a very humiliating manner, after failing to convince the Emperor of his claims that he managed to discover the secret of the legendary Polybolos, a Greek repetition ballista supposedly able to fire tens, if not a hundred bolts through a chain mechanism in rapid succession, without the need of reloading until those tens or one hundred bolts stored in it run out. If this man truly can recreate it and is not a charlatan, being ridiculed only because of the natural resistance and skepticism to radical innovation and reinventions, it would be an incredible siege weapon, and who knows what else the its recreation could inspire, if this is the real deal?

3A) Forget about the Varangians, act with patience and wait for an ever inevitable chain of events and conflicts combined with Angartýr's actions to forge a new legendary military unit from of fire and ice in the New World. Besides, there is that very bad feeling about this city and trying to hire Varangians will definitively draw a lot of attention.

4A) NO WAY! Enough of this! There is nothing he can do about such a thing, and it is better to stay away from the Devourer's attention lest his entire journey to here ends in nothing.

Well, are the winds on our side at this moment? Can we ask the captain (who would be in better position to know these things) what are our chances of escaping? Also, what do you mean by "while losing even a single ship would be a disaster for Angartýr" in C choice? Does that means that C is less riskier then B?

Anyway, I'm thinking:

B - try to keep distance and rain fire on them. Because it works well with:

A - use as many of our bolts as needed. What are we saving them for, a rainy day? This is what they were made to do, so let's use them. Maybe we will need them later, maybe not. But to not to use them when we need them just to save them for future is silly.

C - it's not just the merciful choice - it's also sneaky. First, we can interrogate the survivors to find out detail about who gave the orders, just how much they know about us and maybe if there are any more surprises waiting for us ahead. Secondly, if the word got out that the fleet of Constantinople was sailing under Papal banners, that would raise some questions, wouldn't it? Anything that raises awareness that something is very wrong in the Christian world is good in my book - that is why the Remnants are working for us afterall. So yeah, release prisoners in a European harbour - preferably several harbours so as to spread the word of what happened (and the word of our mercy and honour as well - no point of being a hero if nobody knows this) far and wide.

Yeah, but it's not like we can easily take them across the ocean. I think the voyage is going to be problematic enough even without a bunch of prisoners to look after. Would we even have enough room for the prisoners and the extra supplies needed for them?

Edit: Unless the idea is to sell them before heading out to Atlantic. But I don't think we could pull that one in any christian port, so we would pretty much have to try it in muslim lands. And somehow I don't think that dealing with the other religion of peace is a good idea at this point. Even if they are not immediately hostile to us, how would that affect the morale of out troops? But anyway, before we get to even have prisoners, we need to survive this attack first.

B - and try to protect transports for all cost, those are most costly and most loaded units.
A - would like to not go to trigger-happy but protecting our money jewgold is more important
C - Can we buy there ingredients like naphtha for our mad scientist philosophizer if we got to hit port?
Our PR will go up here it seems Angartýr going Geneva convention on his opponents asses since 11 century.

Looks like Vikong nordic gorilla gonna get some exp in commanding and sailing. Odin gonna be proud.

Well, are the winds on our side at this moment?

Favorable, but they will have to outrun the galleys for a much longer time than merely the day and time when they spotted that fleet. They are near Italy right now and have the rest of the Mediterranean to cross.

Then we should also use the wind as long as it's favorable. Don't outright flee, but keep a formation and use the wind to stay ahead of the pursuers while they tire themselves out. These are galleys we are talking about - unlike our cogs, they rely mostly on rowers. But whatever happens, we should stay away from close combat. There could be greek fire on those ships, and that would make short work of our fleet.

Great update, voting BAC for the same reasons as Zero Credibility.

Just a small correction considering 'Svetska Hajduka', it shoud be 'Svetski Hajduci'

This CYOA just gets better and better. Superb.

Zero Credibility makes sense, I'll hop on the BAC bandwagon.

We spent time obtaining the polybolos, time to make use of them. My hope is that if we take out 10 ships in spectacular style this may cause some of the others to abandon the attack. Even if not, it improves the odds. If this approach fails then we can always use the boarding option as a last resort.

You people are really going with one of my plans? Are you nuts?
Don't worry, I'm sure Esquilax will be along shortly with a different plan as this is turning into too much of a bandwagon!

It does fit with us acquiring the polybolos though. Without that I think there would be the usual variety of plans.

Luckily naval artillery was pretty nonexistant in the Middle Ages, and spotting ships at night, even in a strait, was near impossible. Unlike in

Still, there is a chance of shit happening and then boarding ship to ship combat would be almost inevitable.

Also, as a reminder, the Moors currently control Gibraltar, which means some enemies of Angartýr enemies might support him if someone starts pretending the Gibraltar belongs to Catholic Europe.

Unless Islam is also another sockpuppet of the Devourer...

If there are any other ships out there, it would be better to avoid them. If there is a blockade in place, maybe Moors would have them hit before we even get there, so hopefully we can get through without incident. And if not, well we do have all those mercenaries that can take pretty much anything in boarding action. Provided nobody on the other side has greek fire, but I doubt it - real greek fire doesn't strike me as something you can just use without extensive preparations, and when (and if) they spot us it will be too late for that.

We got wenches, beer and swords to be made its time to get to new world and make some profit we are almost out of jewgold so its time to ride asterisks or other barbarians, if the see fight is inevitable we should be on equal level as opponent. Who knows mby we will capture some admiral or general.
