Yeah, Aloth looks cool but for the others I'm going to do it Old School

E: you can probably backport the new portraits into the first game since it's the same picture format and all, right? I'll nu-Aloth in Pillars 1 asap

Eder looks like someone's uncle. The porn 'stache is too much. Pallegina is just awful. She looked like a beautiful exotic woman in P1, she looks old and too exotic in this portrait, like a caricature.

Observations from looking through the portraits folder:

Strangely, there's only one portrait from PoE1's new Deadfire Pack DLC in PoE2 - the blonde Orlan Zed took a fancy to.

All of the other player portraits are from PoE1, with a new watercolor version for each, except for one additional female Orlan portrait which isn't in the Deadfire Pack.

There are many, many NPC watercolor portraits.

The companion portraits have two sizes of watercolor portraits for each companion in addition to the two sizes of the regular ones. And there are also some portraits in that directory which don't appear to be of companions at all. Unless they're secret temporary companions or something.

The game includes all of the NPC and companion portraits from PoE1 as well, except the old versions of Aloth, Eder and Pallegina.

There's also a directory of animal companion portraits, although they're more like icons than portraits.

Godlikes only have one face variant for now. I tested male nature godlike and I could add facial hair. Tested one orlan. One face type, a few hair styles and facial hair options.
Can someone show the orlan and god-like models?

so i was just watching that backer beta update dev video on page 436 and am i the only one that can't believe one of the main new features is PENETRATION?

I realize we're all supposed to be adults but seriously that shit is funny as fuck, especially when I saw that penetration / no penetration actually appears on screen and will be something the player will be looking at throughout the entire game.

I have a sneaking suspicion that word choice is in the game specifically because Sawyer wanted it to be called penetration in some sort of attempt to bully their way into a moral highground of some sort by way of whittling the fanbase into those who find it hilarious and those who (pretend) they don't.

I also suspect the compromise of shortening the word penetration into "pen" during combat was something Sawyer fought against but was fought for by the more savvy designers.

The god-likes look pretty cool tbh, especially moon and fire. I don't know what's up with death, pretty weird aesthetic that doesn't really match up with anything else, they look like Silent Hill rejects.

The Druid passives still look terrible and boring.

the most important question is still unanswered:

If you have OBJECT HIGHLIGHTING toggled ON, does the game still assault you with huge oversized name-plates of all on-screen NPCs?

Did they come to their senses and do like Tyranny did and copy the IEMod's change to having the huge oversized NPC nameplates appear only when you mouse over them, regardless of whether or not OBJECT HIGHLIGHTING is toggled?

EDIT: Second, for those with middling PCs it might surprise you to know that having NPC circles Always On is a huge frame-rate chugger, and even with my "new" rig (intel i5 3ghz, nvidia current gen GPU, 8gb ram) toggling NPC circles on when the screen is filled with them will cause a 5-10 FPS drop, regardless of whether the current frame rate is 100 or whatever... it still drops.

So the second question is basically asking someone with the beta to measure their frame-rate, preferably using DXTORY instead of FRAPS, with a screen with lots of NPCs and toggling on/off the circles.

and be sure to have anti-aliasing ON, as I believe that is why the NPC circles affect the frame rate.

eder looked cute somewhat handsome potrait in original pillars. he looks like a typical dude with a ugly mug now with that nose, aged skin and that boring clean cut hair style. Pallegina on the other hand looks like a hyper sexualized weird black bird bitch from a Conan novel. Its nice now they changed how penetration and its not op as before.

The stream is in the char-build screen and he is intentionally making a char with MAXIMUM PENETRATION and yelling PENETRATION aloud every few seconds.

Good going josh! Why graze when you can PENETRATE?

I will also be sure to only concentrate on PENETRATION and I'm sure the majority of builds will want to have the most PENETRATION possible.

The only way to make this funnier would be if the game had an Unreal Tournament announcer voice yelling MAXIMUM PENETRATION every kill.

it's very disappointing about the nameplates as I can't imagine playing a game like this without OBJECT HIGHLIGHTING always on. I fucking hate having to mouse over everything hunting for pixels in an Isometric game where the screen isn't static, it's laborious as fuck and always unrewarding, so I always have HIGHLIGHTING on and can't imagine playing the game with every NPC's nameplate always onscreen obscuring everything.

I had hoped they'd learned from Tyranny and the IEMod and I humbly ask for the backers here to include in their feedback that they want the option of having the NPC nameplates appear only "one at a time", like with the IEMod or like in Tyranny.

This is something that for me is extremely baffling as the BG games did not assault the screen with all the NPCs name when you toggled HIGHLIGHTING. It's something I truly don't understand.

There seems to be a filter for the combat log. When I click the combat log, there are portraits for all playable characters next to it. There's an icon that I assume is for all enemies.

Is something-that-isn't-lightning Wild Strike Druid more supported now? I really wanted to make a decay-based Druid in P1, but everything in the game funnels you to lightning.
