If I have to change my beam loadout (which happens if Phasers get nerfed to the ground), it'll be plasma beams (the Vulcan choice).

Just remember to pick the character who gets it very carefully.

Yes, I'm being miserable because of that choice. I'm divided between using it for a Klink Tactical or a Klink Engi. I am very inclined to go the Tactical way, the free turn rate buff and Go Down Fighting are pretty tempting on a hardy little ship, and with both a Commander and a Lt. Commander Eng Stations it should have more than enough survivality for PvE (and last time I did check PvP it was all about Cycling Tact Team and EPtS while draining as much power and doing as much DPS as humanly possible, anyway).

But one way or another is a ship for my Orion raiders. My main problem with Klinks, how UGLY their ships are, is easily solved that way.

Forgot to mention people, there's a new Lock Box coming, and a Lobi Store inventory overhaul (including one of the two Tholian ships). The interstellar jewry remains strong under Chinese Overlords.

I am pretty sure PWE is an undercover Ferengi operation, anyway. :P

Ferengi #1: "We take a free Vo'quv carrier, make it look Romulan, paint it blue, and sell it to the Federation for 25$. How about it?"

Ferengi #2: "Genius!"

*highfive*

Which makes me feel like a sucker for wanting one so bad, since we are at it.

And now this other carrier for The Lord knows how much, since you get it by means of Lobi and that's pretty random.

I guess what all those online games are telling me is that I should get over Pet Classes if I don't want to be sucked dry by evil corporations.

The Tholian ships (lockbox and Lobi) are here (they're a Science Vessel and a Carrier respectively)

I get Tholians have this spider theme going on, but those ships are pretty ugly. :?

I like my crews as multikult as possible so I hope I can get my paws on a couple of those Tholian Doffs I heard were coming with the new boxes, though.

Those aren't Tholian doffs I think, but doffs with bonuses AGAINST Tholians.

Nu, nu. They are actual Tholians.

"In keeping with the theme of Tholians, and building upon our past tradition of offering very rare, handcrafted Duty Officers in our Lock Boxes, there will be a chance to gain one of six unique Warfare Specialist Duty Officers, all of whom are members of the Tholian species willingly serving aboard Federation and KDF starships in defiance of the Tholian Assembly. Each Warfare Specialist will improve a player’s damage bonus when fighting a specific enemy, either in Space or on the Ground. While only one of these can be slotted at a time, keeping them all in your roster may prove invaluable now that a wide array of antagonists will soon be assaulting Player Starbases on a regular basis."

What a crappy ability.

EDIT: Also, me and helpie just ran a test duel. It seems the Plasma proc while theoretically improved (the DoT is much more powerful, and supposed to completely ignore shields) is completely broken in actuality, as it doesn't activate at all now. Then again, bugs in a Cryptic patch are totally unheard of, right?

How do you make energy credits so quickly?

Slave traficking.

I have a bunch of old accounts each with either one or two charactes getting Doff Recruitment assignments, then I send them all to one of my main accounts and sell them in the exchange. Instead of going for good prices I go for speed, so I give huge discounts based on the lowest price they are currently selling at. Then the other girls and guys playing the market buy them fast to resell them at higher prices and stop the potential drop in prices if more sellers use my price (being the lowest) instead of the other sellers' as the basis for theirs.

If you don't mind grinding a little bit you can set it up in a couple of hours: Create a hotmail account, make a new perfect world account, then just run through the tutorial and get to level 7 by doing episodes in the lowest difficulty to unlock the Doff system and your first pack, then get all eight doff recruitment assignments and repeat a bunch of times. I'm adding a few new ones myself because now that I burned through all my old doffs it is going to slow down until the next batch, so the more characters I have recruiting the bigger the batch and the longer time I can keep selling while waiting for the next batch to come (and hopefuly the times overlap so that some receive their batch while I am between the others' batchs).

@_@ I really want that D'kora.

Other than that you can check what you sold in each selling account, send money back and forth to your storage characters, and put more doffs for sale in about 45 minutes each day.

You need 24 gameplay hours on a character before you can send stuff to other characters by mail, but you can just sell stuff from their very own accounts and then let them AFK until they get enough hours. Just remember you need to relog after every AFK hour.

Since we are at it...

What are some good trait builds for tacticals? For my Orion ones it is easy (seductive, seduce, accurate, elusive) but what about Alien Feds? Elusive and Accurate are obviously a must, but what would be good to pick for the remaining two if going mostly Escorts + Melee?

All true tacts are escort or BoP or Escort/Cruiser hybrid plus melee. :obviously:

I would say Elusive should only be taken IF Accurate is unavailable for some bizarre reason, as Elusive ONLY works when moving and the benefit isn't as distinct as with Accurate. It's still better than most traits tho.

Personally, my favourite Tac trait build is Accurate + Lucky/Peak Health + race preset(s) (I prefer using canon aliens), in that order of importance. Peak Health can help make a Tac a whole lot less fragile (at level 50 it's 55 extra hit points) which is useful for Tac's kamikaze nature, and Lucky is +3% to Crit Chance which only helps get Critical Exploits off more regularly. If you'd go Alien, I'd say best combination is Accurate + Peak Health + Lucky + Telepathic/Acute Senses. Traits matter more on the Ground than in Space, and this build would provide the mandatory accuracy boost in Space but also more health, more crits and more/better Exploits. Accurate + Peak Health + Telepathic + Acute Senses is also good on paper, though the maximum exploit ninja build would be Accurate + Covert + Telepathic + Acute Senses (+20 to Exploit damage, +2.5% Expose Chance, +10 Stealth). Another decent build would be Accurate + a selection from above + Creative, which makes your Kit abilities stronger (read: Grenade spam).

(

EDIT: The reason for all this with Exploits is because melee is entirely about Exposes and Exploits, without them the damage just doesn't measure up to just shooting. The only additional Space trait worth considering is Warp Theorist. One Ground trait I forgot to mention is Soldier, which is really good for ranged combat when used with Lucky.

For canon aliens in-game, the best choices for melee Tac are IMO, Vulcan (Physical Strength, Logical), Andorian (Acute Senses, three of choice) and Caitian (Feline Instincts, access to Pounce) on the Fed side; and Nausicaan (Physical Strength and Pirate), Klingon (Warrior) and Lethean (Telepathic) for KDF.

Fun fact: Actually the best melee is spamming 3 with a pistol in hand.

)

Also, it's true that Tacs should stick to Escorts/BoPs most of the time, as their built-in traits are the only ones in the game that are tailored for those specific ships. Cruisers and Science Vessels just don't get as much out of Attack Pattern Alpha as Cannon Volley + Torpedo Spread using Escort/BoP.

Mhmmmm~ Who know? I cant say for certain whether Vietnamese element will appear in the task force.
Well, there's plenty of options to choose from.

Thank you for the in depth answer.

Two questions, though:

1. Isn't the extra +10% defense while moving from Elusive good for Escorts who are always running around at high speed because they assplode the moment they stop, or given they have so much defense already the extra 10% is not really that good as in, say, a cruiser?

2. Would Physical Strenght be preferable to Creative for a melee oriented build? Creative gives 5% to all kit damage, but Physical Strenght gives 10% to all melee kit physical damage, like lunge and sweeping strikes.

Though I did really like the "ninja" trait build, so I will be giving that one a try.

Now to relearn all the combos and what each did. @_@

and Nausicaan (Physical Strength and Pirate), Klingon (Warrior) and Lethean (Telepathic) for KDF.

Totally. KDF can get pretty fun with a full melee crew, or a melee + pulsewaves + chronitons one. It's not the most effective, but damn it's cool.

1. The extra 10% isn't that important, all it really does is reduce critical chances (because everyone has Accurate), which isn't a problem for anyone anyway. You can check the STO forums for mathmathmath concerning Accuracy vs Defense mechanics.

2. Physical Strength is better for melee due to Lunge benefiting greatly from it. However, it should not be taken as an optional trait if you're powergaming.

3. To experience ninja, see Starbase Incursion event. Skar has so far ninja solo'd it's second phase twice. Also, a ninja will use ONLY Operative kit due to the Personal Cloak in it.

Actually, at the end it was implied that the whole thing was an elaborate set up proxy invasion plan by the Hurgh, and that none of it was for realz. Using their own beliefs against them is actually a good move against Klingons, since they're a bunch of delusional dipshits when it comes to their own history.

White doff prices will rise in exchange quite a bit I'd say, fortunately I have seven or so of doff packs saved up so I should be able to take care at least some of those 48.

I've got three Fed chars now, two expressly on doff recruitment Duty. I might level up a fourth character to be able to join in too.

Generally the way to get the white trash doffs is to do the Recruitment assignments at the respective Academies.
