I hate bashing reviewers, but I just couldn't help it.

This reviewer from GEEK.COM must be deaf or really fucking stupid when referring to NPC conversations in Oblivion:

"The voice acting is unmatched. Not only are there venerable actors such as Patrick Stewart and Sean Bean, but there are also hundreds to possibly thousands of extras. There may be some overlaps in terms of what they'll talk about with you, but isn't that also a reflection on real life? More surprising, perhaps, is that there are third-party conversations. The townsfolk will chat with one another about places to find the best deals as well as other gossip."

Unmatched voice acting?
Hundreds to possibly thousands of extras???

Amazing.

  This is hilarious!

It's probably worth looking into a player's guide, because the vast amount of choices can be somewhat overwhelming. You don't want to get 10 hours into the game only to learn that you should have chosen a Red Guard instead of a Dark Elf.
Then Uriel Septim VII (voiced by Patrick Stewart) comes in with a few of his personal bodyguards. Without spoiling the amazing story, I'll just tell you that you wind up in the prison's underbelly in a dungeon crawl.
While it's possible that there are far bigger worlds, it is hard--if not impossible--for me to imagine that all the characters and locations would come across as if they were real people, as is the case in Oblivion.
The music sets the tone perfectly as well. It becomes tenser when you are about to get into a fight and eases back when you are just wandering the countryside. It may be somewhat of a spoiler to know when bad guys are approaching, but I think it's a good thing because otherwise you'd get completely lost in the game and enemies would be attacking you without warning.

But the voices comment sure as hell takes the price.

We can only hope that this is due to him playing the game for an hour.

Did I say the game? I mean any game. Ever. He's so impressed by typicalities you'd think he just left his bunker and black-and-white tube for the first time.

They use hundreds, perhaps thousands of voices to act out just one character at times.

Never in the history of games has such been done.

Anyone who's ever played DnD or any other RPG will know the basic skills.

Who is this guy?

While it's possible that there are far bigger worlds, it is hard--if not impossible--for me to imagine that all the characters and locations would come across as if they were real people, as is the case in Oblivion.

Yep. Real people really love it when I boast to them, joke with them, compliment them, and threaten them all at once.

I don't want to sound like a broken record, but you can really do anything you want to.

Except....you know....all that stuff you can't do. Like backstab people by revealing information, join the "enemy", talk your way out of things, et cetera.

More surprising, perhaps, is that there are third-party conversations. The townsfolk will chat with one another about places to find the best deals as well as other gossip.

I saw a mudcrab today.

Any *intelligent* deaf person need only read the subtitles to realize how stupid the dialogue is . . . it was a hearing moron that made those comments. :P

This "review" is nothing compared to the blatantly bribed "review" of Gamespot.

"What's overwhelming about Oblivion is how good it is and how much there is to it. Literally almost everything that's ever been done well before in past role-playing games is in here--done at least as well, if not better."

You can do anything you want in Oblivion, as long as what you want to do is kill, kill, and kill.

It appeals even more to those who are Deaf, Dumb and Blind all at the same time. That's Bethesda's ideal gamer target demographic!

It's the next step in design philosophy. Total freedum! You can't even see the game there are no limits to your roleplaying!

See you gotta think outside the box...

You can make screenshots and print them in a way in which they are formed into the paper in such a 3 dimensional way that you can touch it and feel what's painted on the paper.

Come on, almost all voice acting is terrible in games. Compared to some jRPG abominations, Oblivion's voice acting is actually passable. The only console voice acting I think I really enjoyed was in Working Designs games, because they don't take it, or anything else, too seriously at all. The best voice actors are the ones who enjoy it, which is why PS:T had such good voice actors.

This just reminded me of Ray Charles getting busted jacking off to relieved porn mags.

We reached the point where what was once passable is now unmatched already? I almost believed it was accelerated aging.

As for voice acting, almost every adventure game I've played had better voice acting than Oblivion. Of course, my opinion may be influenced by the fact that the voices were given better dialogues to act.

All the lying around oblivion would be extremely funny if it wasn't terribly sad

Even if the dialogue would have been good, the voice acting sucked donkey balls. The only good voice actors were Patrick Steward, Sean Bean and that other famous guy who spoke the evil dude in the game. All those Bethesda boasted with. "OMG WE GOT T3H FAMUHS ACTORZ TO VOICE OUR GAEM!!!" The rest suck. They sound boring and uninteresting. And they all sound the same, because EVERYONE from the same race got the same voice actor. This gives you tons of deja vus.

I don't really think that Sean Bean fellow did a good job at all. Far too melodramatic for me.

And Patrick Stewart sounds the same in everything he does. He could at least change his tone of voice once in a while.....

I don't think its really fair to judge Bethesda on the famous actors bit. After all Planescape Torment had Homer Simpson for Nordom.

And i feel that whoever did the voice for your mortality did a really great job of overacting the lines

Tony Jay did the voice of your mortality (The Transcendent One). He's also notable for doing the elder god in the Legacy of Kain games as well as other roles in video games and cartoons. I've always liked his style of overacting, but it really only works well in the melodramatic world of gaming.
