The concept of using kickstarter to market a game is happily being abused (in my view at least.)

There's no way that 70k would pay for a new game with a team of 19 people (as per their picture on the kickstarter page.)
"The amount of trust here is enormous. So PlayWay allows us to use their KS account (it's very problematic to start KS campaign if you're outside of US, UK, Canada)."

The studio is located in Poland fyi not in Canada, so 70k does pay a good amount.
Even at $1000 / month per person (without benefits) that's still under four months of pay.

70k/19k/month = 3.6 months

The average salary for a programmer type in Poland is more than twice that at around 20k - 24k / year.
(as per http://www.payscale.com/research/PL/Country=Poland/Salary)

Either way, they even admit that the 70k wouldn't cover the cost of development. So why are they asking for it? They don't answer that question on the kickstarter.
Because this isn't suppose to cover then entire development cost of the title as they already have another game called Ancient Space that is being finished and about to be released by their publisher Paradox. Their almost finished game looks like it is going to be released in Q4 (so next few months) just in time for the Christmas sales. So those 4 months won't come out of their profits of their recently finished title and just before this wild west game is finished we will see another kickstarter from them asking for a similar amount once again.

For anyone interested in a DRM-free copy, I created a GOG wishlist entry for Hard West. CFG, the developers have expressed interest in having Hard West on there and while I don't know how much GOG actually pays attention to their wishlists, it takes just two clicks to vote for it.

I just finished reading this thread. The game doesn't look good. I can't see the characters he is talking about in the video.
My advice to mr. dev here (whos long gone by now and rightfully so, the game isn't for codex) would be:
1) get rid of that fucking xcom graphics in the UI and introduce your own theme
2) gun porn with lots of stats, ap costs and shit
3) more chaos on the battlefield, smoke, dust, no single shots, have the guns shoot like hell and make the rounds transition quickly without excess animations so that the game feels dirty, gritty, smokey, chaotic

That battle music... it sounds like menu music for a shitty PS2 ATV game

I think the game looks pretty great for pre-alpha stage, but I still like these suggestions a lot.

Your Halloween treat: the Exclusive Backer Access is live!

Hello Dear Backers,

we are glad to say we managed to wrap up an early build of Hard West and will be making it available to you asap. Be advised that “asap” in this case might be a long-ish process, as we are forced to send the keys gradually. Ultimately though, they should all make their way to you over the weekend, Monday evening at the latest.

Cool! How do I get it?
The keys should arrive to your e-mail address associated with your Kickstarter or PayPal accounts (depending on which channel you used to back the game). Please double check, in case it lands in your Spam folder.

Please remember that only Backers who chose a reward tier including a Steam key will get the Exclusive Backer Access key. Also please remember that this early version is only available on PC Windows, and NOT available on either Mac or Linux.

Uncool! I want to flame you to hell! Where do I go?
As you await the access keys, you’re welcome to browse the new Hard West forums. Please note that these forums are exclusive to you, the Backers, and therefore it is critical for your positive identification that you register with the same e-mail address as associated with your Kickstarter/PayPal account.

If you also choose the same nick/login as your KS account, it will be easier for us to verify that you are indeed one of our Backers and you will get access more quickly. In case of any problems, please message us via Kickstarter or send us an e-mail to support@creativeforge.pl.

What’s it gonna be like?
When you finally get your hands on Hard West, please remember that this is a very early, very rough, unfinished, unpolished and unbalanced version of the game. What you receive is not a beta, not even an alpha, and even a pre-alpha would be calling it more than it actually is.Picture it like this: it will be as if you entered your future home, and it only had a not entirely dried foundation, a shaky cardboard wall or two, and a small bunch of furniture falling over and sinking in the concrete. It may not be much. But it’s yours.

What we hope for with this version, is that it will give you a chance to evaluate the potential of the game, post your feedback and make your voice be heard. We are really looking forward to your input and hope that together we can make this game shine.

However, if you’re easily frustrated by bugs, missing features, ugly placeholders, repetitive gameplay and going over the same stuff over and over again, you might want to wait until Hard West reaches beta state, when it should resemble an actual game, or even until the release.

On a closing note, we would like to thank you again for making it all possible, for your patience, and for supporting us until now. We hope you’re going to have some fun with this early version, and that we get to discuss your feedback on the forums. Until next time!

I hope this game is better than Expeditions: Conquistador which is similar and I didn't enjoy.

hm, this is exactly like nuxcom with some added novelties, like having a skill to ricochet shots off of metal objects to shoot around corners. could be fun, especially if someone makes a long war equivalent for it.

Hey, sorry for not posting for a long, long time. Had a lot of work to do, so that the production gets on the correct track. Still a few pipelines to organize.

Anyways - thanks for the ideas (also the feedback I've received in PMs). I've noted it all down and I'm reworking the mechanics. If you've got any other ideas, now's the right moment. The question stays the same: how to attain depth without damaging the simplicity?

I'll let you guys know where I ended up!

Can the PC die yet?
Will melee ever be in?
Why were there so few ricochet-points, like one or two over the map?
Will you be having overwatch?

Will there ever be melee weapons?

P.S. not yet played updated beta.
