In this thread I will list any old CRPG's for sale I come across (unless I want them myself of course...) :smug:

I will only try to post original, in box games. Anyone else is welcome to throw some in, but also try to make sure it is an original.

ultima 6 isn't worth too much :( . Would having the same but on 5 1/4" make it worth more or less?

I think the 5 and 1/4" version would be the older and presumably rarer version but the value of any collectible is determined by a host of factors beyond rarity and age. For example, if the 3.5" floppies contained some type of expansion element( a new map to explore or some such for example) then it might be worth more than the other version or if one version were notoriously poor in performance/ease of use then it might be worth less...

Do they generally sell for that much?
I better go check what the rats in the cellar left of my old game boxes...

In that condition(no significant damage to the box aside from some shelf wear, all contents included) you would be surprised at how much people will pay.
I used to throw some of my boxes away when I bought games in the early 90s which I quickly came to regret by the time ebay started rolling.

Its just supply and demand, if nobody want to buy the game then it is worthless

Hard Nova;
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/IBM-PC-5-25-Hard ... 27ab67f28f

Not a bad RPG at all. Pity I already have a mint condition version.

Sentinel Worlds, the predecessor to Hard Nova.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Sentinel-Worlds- ... 563c659a85

Also a good oldschool CRPG. This is the lesser boxed version, but still holds all the goodies (or it should. Ask before putting in a bid).

Demons Winter:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-Demons-Winte ... 519083e82c

Sealed too...not a bad game for its time, but not really stellar either. But a sealed version is very nice.

Mars Saga: still wrapped. Talk about rare.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Commodore-64-gam ... 19bb811069

Legacy of the Ancients: one of the 'Album' games.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Legacy-Ancients- ... 2305f4b7f3

Fixed.

Blackadder, your link to the "Legacy of the Ancients" auction/sale is wrong. it instead goes to the same "Demon's Winter" one you already linked to.

Magic Candle 2 was good. Huge continent to explore, many dungeons, dozens of NPCs and altars to sacrifice them :smug:

Never got this fascination with rare/first editions, even less so when it comes to books. At least with some of these games you sometimes get cloth maps and the other misc. crap (not that I'd really care about those either, but at least it's a tangible difference so it's somewhat understandable).

It should be the games themselves that matter, not what kind of fucking box they come in.

More combat focused than number 1. I enjoyed it immensely.

Go and finish MC1 at once.

Cool. I have the original box and all for I, but was never sure if II was worth spending money on.

I would love to finish part I but my time is limited nowadays so I start alot more games then I finish.

Opinions vary, because I for one love box and goodies that come inside. That being said this is mostly for older games when they actually had cool stuff in them and not these crappy DVD style boxes we get now.

Yeah like I said I can somewhat understand that since you get some additional items that you'd miss out on otherwise. I do have some CE's of course, but the only one I ever felt that I really got my money's worth was the big Carmageddon box. Came with a t-shirt, mousepad and a car key chain, all stuff I could use.

Still would use the key chain if my dad hadn't lost it - coolest car key chain of all time. Probably impossible to find that now, at least for a reasonable price... Fuck I'm still pissed about it.

But rare or first edition books, geez... I guess I lack the collector gene or something because I'd much rather have a spankin' new leatherbound edition of some novel than some crappy old first edition that is so frail that you can't really even read it anymore. As long as the content is the same I really couldn't care less.

The funny thing is that first edition books, even earlier edition books in general, will probably last you a lot longer than a brand spanking new one straight off the (Chinese) press today. They are more solidly constructed, the pages are thicker and the paper is better quality.

As for the Boxed games; I am only interested in the old stuff where you got all the great items and manuals inside. There also is a certain smell to old floppy games, something indefineable. You open up the box, and it is there.

These were not collectors editions, these were the normal game. Today's collectors editions are usually just ripoffs with very little in them. Mileage may vary.

You wanna see an insultingly overpriced ebay item? Check out this one for Baldur's Gate 2:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Baldurs-Gate-2-COLL ... 1c15b5b57a

$128 for BG 2 + exp. in the "collector's edition" box(with some extra but ultimately insignificant Cds such as IWD 1 and IWD 2, BG1 + TotSC exp. thrown in). I think I got that collector's edition boxed set from Best Buy or some such around 4 or 5 years ago for like $15. I got the rest of those games for less than $25 TOTAL(all brand new at the time IIRC).

There is another guy on ebay that is selling FRUA, the CD only without the box but including a "single click installer" he made(presumably using DosBox) for installing & running the game in Win XP...for $50.

Madness.

I know exactly what you mean. Mmm, that smell, the feel of a decade old cardboard box I just blew forty dollars on... It makes me feel like a total idiot that I spent that much money on my copy of PS:T or Grim Fandango, but when I crack those those babies open, oh man, the memories just come flooding in and it's all suddenly worth it.

Last time I checked GoG didn't charge 50 bucks for a single game. Similar business practices but quite a big difference in degree.

This and also GoG has the legal rights to be doing such, having obtained them through the actual copyright holders. Nitpicky I admit but still...

dont think that magic candle 1 box is fake, i am sure the manual was black and white, and besides, what would you gain by printing up new boxes, disks and manuals for Magic Candle1?

if you want to swindle people with oldschool, copy up some Akalabeth zippobags instead.

Fair enough. It must be a Mainland Europe thing. I have my manual right here and it is black and white inside, but the cover is thick, full colour print.
