So I've read about comparisons between the two here and I have been led to believe that DA is Biowares best game since BG2. Some claim its even better. I think its time we stopped for a bit and analyzed these two games side by side.

Baldurs Gate 2 was revolutionary for its:

-Deep npc's
-Rich characterization
-Innovative quests
-Expansive storyline.
-Large number of magic items, each with a unique history
-Strategic and challenging combats
-Drew from a vast bestiary of creatures as foes.

How does Dragon Age compare to each of these points?

Discuss!!

Planescape: Torment (1999)
Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn (2000)

You, sir, are a moron.

I fucking loved that in IWD2. Just about everything magical had a unique and interesting backstory. Shit which in BG saga was just "Flail +1" in IWD2 had descriptions like this:

blackchimes.jpg

Goddamn. And that's just a random Flail you find somewhere. Cera Sumat's description was almost a novel.

IWD2 never gets the credit it deserves :(

You just have this pic lying around waiting for the right time to break it out?

Anyway I agree with you about IWD2. I have probably run through that game more than any of the other Infinity Engine games.

And Black Chimes is not a random flail.

Right click -> Properties, look at "Location"

I prefer to think you have a pile of random pics loaded somewhere and you just wait for the perfect time to break them out whether that be days, weeks, or years.

It's great to see you go BAAAW over a medicore H&S.
While I agree that Icewind Dale is hack and slash game, it is by far the best hack and slash game for it's tactical aspect. However Emotional Vampire stated an obvious lie, because BG saga also has very detailed descriptions, which means he never even played the game, but is so eager to spit shit on Baldur's Gate which is by far a better game than Icewind Dale, since it offers much better story and character interaction with even more tactical options due to amount of spells available.

One thing I like about dragon age is how your characters stab and slash with maces, I remember finishing off the first ogre slashing his neck open with one...

I don't really like it :(

"Deep npc's"

DA wins

"-Rich characterization"

DA wins

"-Innovative quests"

DA wins

"-Expansive storyline."

Draw (though BG2's is slightly better)

"-Large number of magic items, each with a unique history"

Draw (slight edge to DA, though)

"-Strategic and challenging combats"

DA

"-Drew from a vast bestiary of creatures as foes."

BG2 (but it helps drawing for a system that had 2 decades of existence to draw from...)

IWD item descriptions were still vastly superior to whatever BG had, even after the "extended" ToB descriptions fix.
Anyway, BG2 is still a better game than DA:O. The story in BG2 intrigued me more, combat was more satisfying, and it didn't have that hideous camera.

IWD a mediocre H&S? Please provide some superior examples of H&S.
Reading is teh hard? I wrote that the second part was medicore. First one, on the other hand, was pretty good.

That mediocre H&S had more roleplaying in it that entire BG saga combined, with even your race having an effect on some of the quests.

And here I thought all I'll get is "WELL DUH, BG doesn't have any roleplaying in the first place"

Seems like Codex is being misguided again though

DA had the same effect on me that BG2 had. That effect is best imagined as a guy basically only leaving the desk to get coffe/beer or take a shit. I burned out on DA faster, though - there's too much dungeon crawl / fighting in some portions of the game.

Yeah, because BG2 isn't guilty of that. FFS
