The writing was dumb and preachy and predictable, some of the dialog was awful, and Eidos Montreal made it clear that they didn't get Deus Ex. They didn't understand that the game wasn't about augmentations, it was about the conspiracy

HR missed the opportunity for more modern theories. Maybe new XFiles help with it but I doubt.Seems like conspiracy theorists doesn't exist in social media. Plus that mezopatyme or what that crap for crippled was called, took near similiar role like ambrosia but was dropped. Modders surery would fix that, but thanks to the not modder firendly enigne we can forgot about fixing the game.
DX:HR was like JJ Abram's Star Trek reboot. It had all the bells and whistles of Star Trek, and it had the same recognizable characters, but it didn't have the soul. Star Trek was about exploration, whereas the reboot was an action movie in space. DX was about the conspiracy, whereas DXHR was an action game in Detroit. The similarities are flimsy and superficial.

Nah, they should've just called it Human Revolution and severed any ties it had to Deux Ex. On its own it was a good game, but when compared directly to Deus Ex it fell short on too many areas, like the setting (too advanced and clean for a prequel), the story (little connection to the backstory of Deus Ex, largely different themes) and the level design (too linear and restricted for the most part, with a clear "combat path" and "stealth path" through most levels). It was not like Invisible War which simply was too shitty to deserve to be called Deus Ex, it just clearly wanted to tell a different kind of a story and portray a different kind of a world. Now that they want to expand upon that universe, the "Deus Ex" name is probably more of a burden than anything else.Honestly, they never should have prequeled Deus Ex. They should have called it deus ex, set it in a place similar to the past of deus ex, but put in other, more modern conspiracy theories. Maybe this time the aliens really do exist and illuminati is just a scapegoat?
Though who knows, maybe they will retcon it into existence by saying that Jensen blew up Panchea but survived on the ocean floor, or some other ridiculous horseshit.
I hope you'll have the option to side with the communist rebellion. Otherwise, not gonna bother.
