Human Revolution was alright during the first 40-60% of the game, the remaining part looked like they ran out of time/money/ideas and started bitchslapping content to make it just a few hours longer, thus shooting themselves in the foot, because these last hours of the game sucked and made replayability unwanted and unnecessary, not to mention the huge amount of cheesy ways to get through the entire game.

Mankind Divided should have more natural/less linear level layouts and focus on remaining consistent through the entire game. Having at least this will be a worthy improvement.

Also, reminded Eidos forums about my existence, so AlexOfSpades should receive more messages from little girls soon.

Disappointed. I was hoping they will be making significant changes to gameplay, story etc. They still might, but seeing as Batman Jensen is still the lead makes me suspect that they will adhere to the "if it's broken, but the majority of journos said it ain't don't fix it" approach.

HR could have been great if they had time to finish it, but you can say that about a lot of games. I'll be happy with this if it's at least as good as HR. I'm a little worried about them using the same timeframe and main character, though. I like Adam Jensen, but I think building on the previous game's story would be a mistake. Back before he stopped being interesting, Shamus Young wrote a pretty good post about why Invisible War didn't work; http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=1607 Basically, Deus Ex was a self-contained story and a direct follow up was a mistake. (Dark Souls II has this problem as well, IMO) It makes more sense to basically reboot the story - keep the conspiracies and cyberpunk setting, ditch the specifics. Make it fresh each time. Basically I hope Mankind Divided drops AJ into a whole new conspiracy and doesn't try to trot out too much continuity from Human Revolution.

Didn't their market research show that cyberpunk doesn't mean anything to most Millennials who consider the tropes "modern"?

From this month's Game Informer issue. Sounds super sexy:

-Takes place in 2029, 2 years after Human Revolution
-Listed as single-player, no mention of multiplayer
-Jensen is part of a covert, goverment-sponsored task force called Task Force 29, a new bracnh of Interpol, to combat a new breed of terrorism
-Jensen doesn't full trust Task Force 29, also feeds intel to another covert organization called the Juggernaut Collective
-In true Deus Ex fashion, you often receive conflicting missions, neither can be fully trusted
-Boss encounters are designed in a way to allow players to approach any way they want (stealth, full combat, etc)
-Eidos won't comment on which ending it considers canon but is trying to string together different parts of each ending for the overall background of Mankind Divided
-Story is in many ways a story of redemption for Jensen
-The story they're telling is building to events that take place in the original Deus Ex
-With Mankind Divided, they're exploring the original game's past; "Is the depiction of past events from the original Deus Ex true? Will we discover stuff we never knew?"
-Added a lot of diversity to the environments
-Females are also now part of the regular enemies in the game
-One of Jensen's missions takes him to Utulek Station in Prague, now a ghetto for augmented individuals
-It is nicknamed "Golem City", based on the real life Kowloon Walled City
-Shops line the streets, temporary housing units stacked on one another reaching upwards toward the sky; claustrophobic atmosphere
-Mission to track down a leader of an aug group, but police have captured the informant
-Can choose to butter up the informant's wife for clues or cause a scene with the police
-Alternatively Jensen can bypass this area of the game altogether and find the leader's hideout on his own
-Mentions Jensen engaging in tense conversation with the leader, resulting in a diplomatic solution or violence
-Transhumans (augs) referred to as "clanks" by police
-"You can go full combat or full stealth throughout any part of the game"
-Side quests meant to be more meaningful; ex. players can choose to make deals with criminal organizations and its mob boss might call in a favor later interrupting main missions
-Doesn't want fetch quests, the team sees the extra quests as a way to explore the main themes of the game more deeply
-Features twice as many augmentations as Human Revolution
-Aug examples:
  • Tesla: little darts pop out of Jensen's knuckles allowing him to tag enemies and take them out quietly
  • Silent Run: Allows Jensen to move quickly across any floor without making a sound (can combine with cloaking)
  • C.A.S.I.E.: Allows Jensen to analyze the mental state of individuals, helping him to respond adequately in conversations
  • PEPS Gun: Non-lethal weapon that pops out of Jensen's bionic arm and fires a concussive blast allowing him to knock an enemy out, kill him or flee
-Augmentation features can be assigned on the d-pad for quick selection
-Augmentations consume a fixed amount of energy, when Jensen stops using them he regains a portion of it

God I hope they don't do pre-rendered cutscenes for Mankind Divided. The Xbox one the weakest out of the 2 mainstream consoles should have enough memory to support non pre-rendered cutscenes.

I hope they let you get a paint job. I want to play as Jensen with pink arms, purple glasses and blonde hair. Oh, making 90% of weapons not worthless would be nice too.

My thoughts exactly.
There was enough space to add a few nice twists and details. I'd love the ending if you could infiltrate Panchaea way before this zombie shit happened and get a chance to prevent this event by looking for documents and information to shut this transmission down. I'd also appreciate if it would enforce stealth due to really sophisticated security and amount of patrolling bots, so you'd have to look for more than one way to bypass them and achieve your goal.

Also, I'd appreciate if you could infiltrate any area more than once, for example, you're infiltrating it for the first time to learn about their security and gather some minor useful information, then you come back prepared to face everything there, only to realize that your first infiltration didn't give you enough information and there is at least one important detail that you've missed, but it's too late to turn back, because the police/security is informed and you will have to face even tighter security if you'll retreat again.

My thoughts exactly.

Mine too. After we found out who was going to make it, and after looking at who was on the design team and who was going to be writing it (Canadians) I knew right away that it was not going be the sequel to DX (fuck Invisible War, it is dead to me. Dead!) that I really wanted. But, I bought it and played it anyway and I liked a good portion of it.

The writing was dumb and preachy and predictable, some of the dialog was awful, and Eidos Montreal made it clear that they didn't get Deus Ex. They didn't understand that the game wasn't about augmentations, it was about the conspiracy, and ultimately being presented with no good options. All three of the endings of DX are genuinely hard to pick from because they are all really tough compromises. The irony of JC Denton's life is that an augmented super soldier still has to choose between two people who want to shape the world, and there is nothing his augments can do about it. The only way out of that quagmire is for him to become the thing he has been fighting the whole time: merge with Helios and essentially become Bob Page, a benevolent dictator who thinks he knows better than everyone else what humanity needs/wants.

There was none of that subtlety or brilliance in DXHR, absolutely none. The ending was a choose-your-own-adventure style mash-up of choices that -- and this is what so bothered me about it -- was finger wagging you to pick the "right" one, and by that I mean the one that was most closely aligned with the writers' politics -- not to mention a cheap way out. It was obvious the "right answer" was to blow up Panchea and kill everybody, but of course you can't have a sequel if you do that shit. Though who knows, maybe they will retcon it into existence by saying that Jensen blew up Panchea but survived on the ocean floor, or some other ridiculous horseshit.
