there’s some good info here, but it is true that missing out on one of earthbound, ff9, and chrono trigger is a travesty
But FF9 & CT are just games for romantics,
I am regretting now putting all three parts into one listing for these games. The idea was to avoid the MAL effect of having the entire list be third or fourth seasons of recent anime, since they're selecting for people who liked the previous seasons enough to keep watching. Except in this case it'd be completing two to three 50-60 hour games. Now I see the flaws of this decision, that if fans dislike the first games anyway, and people who didn't play them all are allowed to affect the total vote, then this puts the games lower than they should be.Trails
I've never even heard of this. What is it?#2 is Terranigma

No North American release, thus it is one of those games that some people love, others never heard ofI've never even heard of this. What is it?#2 is Terranigma
Like really, the fuck is this game?

No Rance though, so it's not prestigious. This list is definitely a lot more good than bad. It's kind of epic.
Created this chart showing the frequency of the console generations on the pure list:I like that this list is so extremely period agnostic. Entries jump from 1993 to 2020 without a care in the world, being of course more clustered around the PSX/PS2 golden age from 1995 to 2006, but it follows the good rpgs onto the DS/PSP in the PS3 darkage and even manages to catch the few PS3 standouts like Valkyria Chronicles. It also includes games going back until the NES in the past, and modern classics from PS4/Switch/PC. Very good sign for this list being thorough and unbiased in finding good rpgs.
The top 10 has a span from Dragon Quest III in 1988 to Yakuza Like A Dragon in 2020. That's great range.
Among people who have played all three of the originals, the games rank: Suikoden 2, Suikoden 1, Suikoden 3 instead of Suikoden 2, Suikoden 3, Suikoden 1. There's a slight selection bias with sequels where they do better just because people who disliked the previous games are less likely to play them. In this case S3 got 3.8 and S1 got 3.72.I have not played most of the games on here. The most burning question I have is: Is Suikoden 3 really better than 1 (I have played 1)?

Also, I played Warsong so long ago and I vaguely remembered it being good, so I voted 4 when it was on the extended poll. But does it really belong up with these?

Did you learn that from one of your children's book?FFV is the best old school Final Fantasy but the story is a little...Final Fantasy-like.
