Probably they don't need anymore a dedicated PR dude for North America now that the game is released. He also said something stupid about gamergate on Twitter and CDP told him to shut the fuck up, but I don't think that was a possible cause for the layoff.

They don't, and often the company pays the price for it by way of a hit to their rep.
