Just to clarify, do you means exploration-based RPGs specifically (since you posted this in the RPG forum), or any sort of exploration-based game?

Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Codex+ Now Streaming!
Expeditions series (though especially the first one)
Insurmountable
Maritime Calling
Some of the older pirate games (Pirates of the Carribean and such) would probably fit the bill as well.

Depends on how you define exploration, give examples, etc.
That is very very hard. Just have that nice feel of finding some hidden shit in the level design. Or have some nice exploration mechanics or setting with a lot of mystery and world to unravel.

Examples...well....

Gothic games...mainly 3 -great fun finding some hidden cave with some loot that could be great or shit.
laxius power - alot of secret shit hidden around the world that include even bosses and items, also the first one had great difficulty setting that hid a third of the world behind it :)
vagrus - a new game about being caravanier that explores a world devastate by god just giving up on humans, nuking them and fucking off
heaven's vault - have great puzzle gameplay about learning a language, tho the game is not that good
spacecom nexus - space exploration game about being in another universe
planscape torment - great exploration of an alien world that depends on your wis and int stats :)
might and magic games -open world with a lot of hidden shit :)

Just to clarify, do you means exploration-based RPGs specifically (since you posted this in the RPG forum), or any sort of exploration-based game?
Well most of them are rpgs, but there is no need to be one.

I got the itch from watching a video about "Sands of Aura " ,looked like a game with potential that got pulled down by the shitty souls like imitation gameplay. It looked like a world i would enjoy exploring but don't want to waste me times on the retarded lazy combat.

UnderRail if you haven't played it still.
Wiz 8 same
Replayed underrail a few times, can't wait for the next game or expansion or what ever it is.
Next game won't come out soon but the OG just got a DLC so if you need a reason to replay it and check the new content - welcome. And yeah, NEO scavenger is a pretty cool game, there isn't that much exploration focus though.

Maybe change title of thread to "I wish to find Hidden Shit"

Maybe your search for a game with good exploration is a kind of attempt to find "hidden shit" in itself

Just like white trash exploring the trash to find "good shit", I guess

Any exploration based RPG to recommend ??
  • Dungeon Master (1987, see signature) & Chaos Strikes Back (1989) for pure dungeon-delving
  • Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss (1992) for 3D dungeon-delving
  • The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall (1996) for vast procedurally-generated dungeons
  • The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (2002) for 3D Open World overland exploration
  • Legend of Grimrock I (2012) & II (2014) for an update on the formula established by Dungeon Master
  • Kenshi (2018) for overland exploration with large squads and base-building
  • Outward (2019) for an attempt at combining survival aspects with overland exploration
