Velvet book is clearly my favorite.
It's not mine. Its main purpose seems to be filling the gaps left by the previous books, which doesn't make it extremely interesting.
Butthurt detected. It's clearly the most important book in the game story-wise.
Fate. Chapter 5, Act 1 - Demon Lord's Castle
Velvet is awaiting the execution:
You're our prisoner. You have no freedom.
Enemies are full of themselves:
Lord Brigan shall personally see to your execution.
Velvet meets a furry maid:
Aren't you...?
Let me help you, Princess...
No, you can't.
Princess...
Speaking of the execution...
I will execute you and pay you back for the humiliation you gave me.
What did you say? Why don't I just kill you right here?
Of course he's all talk...
SISes meet again:
I never thought of him as my father.
...
Not without her precious chain...
The hindi shopkeeper is as nice as always:
This land is so barbaric... Look, you might as well have a good last meal.
The power of free market is strong in this one...
Velvet reaches exit:
She's going to go back to the Forests of Elrit... but how?
Fate. Chapter 5, Act 2 - Winterhorn Ridge
It's simple, actually. We see our heroine running away (still without the chain):
This scene happens after Gwen intercepts Velvet's execution, frees her and faces Brigan.
As you may remember, we haven't seen how Velvet was able to escape and how Gwen fell into Odin's hands after killing Brigan.
We're going to witness this now...
I'm surrounded... I can't escape...
Gwen shows up (after defeating Brigan):
You...
Both SISes run away. After some time, Velvet stops Gwen:
Your execution would deeply upset my father.
So please, don't hate him...
Warriors catch up with them:
But Gwen does not approve:
Poor warriors seem butthurt:
Odin shows up.
My Lord...
To those who oppose me.
Velvet tries to intervene:
This girl rescued me for your sake... She rescued me, your daughter...
But Gwen asks her to STFU (still being daddy's little girl):
Gwendolyn... Do you realize what you have done...?
My heart knows why you are acting this way... That is why I am doing this.
Gwen goes full Renegade:
Hear me, everyone. I am a traitor who opposes the King's commands.
What disrespect...
Hurry!
Velvet runs away like a total emo girl.
Fate. Chapter 5, Act 2 - Near Pooka Village
Velvet is back home and meets Meril, who is... relieved:
How is Master Krois?
He is still in bed, unconscious.
Oh, Master...
This old furry is a true BRO...
Suddenly, there's some uproar ahead:
We're going to learn something new about Skuldi:
So Odin cast a spell on his daughter, eh?
This does not concern you.
He warps out:
Velvet recognizes Skuldi's victim:
Yes, Princess Velvet... I was forced to leave the castle, so I was on my way back home.
What did the sorcerer want?
'Driven from the castle'? What is happening at the Demon Lord's palace?
Yeah, that's totally unexpected, taking into consideration Gwen's recent actions...
Where did she go?
She is to be imprisoned in the old castle in the forest.
Forgive me, Myris... This is all my fault... She sacrificed herself to save me...
Princess Velvet...
No...
She departs.
Why didn't you help your sister when you had a chance (in previous scene, for example)?
Fate. Chapter 5, Act 3 - Forest of Elrit
As you may remember from previous Velvet's chapters, she was supposed to live in an old (Valentinian?) castle in the forest.
And now she's heading to... an old (Ragnanivalian?) castle in the forest...
So there are three options:
- There are two old castles in this forest,
- Developers screwed something up,
- Odin gave Oswald a castle that did not belong to him...
Anyway... The Forest of Elrit in Velvet's book is... hard as fuck. :/
The enemies (frogs, goblins, bears and bees) may look harmless:
But since they keep poisoning our heroine, I had to spend many Materials on Antidotes.
Buying a Detox Charm just to clear this area is not a bad idea. But of course I realized this halfway through...
Bears work in packs this time, so it's best to hit them from a distance:
Fuckers hit hard, so you have to spend some Carroteers on Healing Tonics or Elixirs...
Of course Phozon Burst works well against them:
Velvet pwns a Manticore:
And finds some bee-hives.
Bees are much more dangerous this time: hives spam not 2-3 but 5-6 of them:
But all the above pales in comparison to 2nd mid-boss stage (two manticores).
For me this was the single most difficult fight so far...
These fuckers will keep jumping at you alternately, either stunning you:
Raping you:
Or poisoning you using their projectiles:
And all these frogs that they can summon don't make things easier when it comes to avoiding damage...
Velvet fights bravely:
But in the end:
I've decided to prepare for this battle same way as I do for boss-batles. I've prepared more Painkillers, Healing Tonics and Flame Spirits.
Setting these bitches on fire helped:
But not that much:
My main problem was low Psypher level (lack of Overload). Still, after a long battle:
Since I run out of Materials and Carroteers, I had to do some grindan on completed stages to be able to prepare for the boss (for the first time since the beginning of the game).
It went smooth as fuck:
Velvet finds two new recipes: Cold Cheese Soup and Yogurt Gelato, prepares some items:
And faces the boss.
Fate. Chapter 5, Act 4 - Old Castle Environs
We can see the biggest dick in the game:
Err, I mean:
Two valkyries show up:
Ah... well done. I shall take care of the rest. Return to the castle.
They depart.
A wild red hood appears:
I am happy to see you safe, Velvet.
But she brings another subject up:
If you were truly relieved, you would not have punished the daughter who cares for you.
I see that you are concerned about Gwendolyn, but you know that the king cannot waive punishment for those who disobey the law.
Suddenly [tm]!
Velvet begins to tremble again... You know what that means:
Eh? This tattered spectre... This is King Valentine?
Odin...
I need no civility to deal with a demon who kills his own daughter.
Yes indeed, a demon... I crushed my beloved child with these hands...
The emo-meter is off the scale!
There's some kind of Valentine's introspection:
I would not even allow the rain to touch her... Do you realize just how much I loved her...?
Everyone labeled me a child-killer and feared me like a wild animal.
I think that the past tense isn't justified
I lost all sense of serenity and peace.
The pain of losing her is still with me.
Valentine changes subject suddenly:
Shall we continue our war here? Very well. Let us have our fill of battle.
Don't worry, my dear... If you heed my words, we should be able to leave those underground in peace.
!
Velvet looses her 'bored look' [tm]:
Chain this beast up.
...
Too late! It's time for Velvet to kick her daddy's ass!
(Jesus Christ, 83 images just to reach the boss battle? This book is damn wordy...)
