It's not impossible (now). It just required a new layout to be developed for all libraries (since most distros assume you are regularly building from source, and all software there was built from source, why the fuck would they make a special case for sharing alien ISA libraries and bloating the system? Except, of course, broken handmade 32 bit assembly unportable programs).

If you search for 'Kega on $DISTRO' on google you can see mostly outdated posts from as far back as 2003 telling you to symlink random files because of this (and of course, this leads to crashes).

I'm a big Kega Fusion fan too, if only it had mappable shortcuts for fast forward and rewind like Nestopia then it'd be near perfect. The filters look really good too on it unlike some other emulators. Here's Flink, an underrated Amiga gem, that got ported over for Sega CD. HQx4 enabled and I forget what else.

Yeah, I'm not one of those (hipsters) who strictly adheres to scanlines, 4:3 ratio, no filters and such unless forced to. I'm okay either way but with choice, I'll go with HQ or anti-aliasing. Emulators like Magic Engine and Fourdo only offer higher res, which is fine too, no big deal. If I want original, low res pixelated quality though, then I'll bust out the actual consoles sitting in storage.

Why not take advantage of sharp looking filters, especially when you're sitting right in front of an LCD monitor or playing on a large screen plasma? Or are you ragging on HQx4 specifically? I could understand if it were 2xsai but I like the cleanness of HQ except on Project64 which looks like shit, especially in early 3D games.

OH, forgot to ask - on the subject of Genesis emulators, have you guys ever seen or tried Retrocopy? It's like a virtual room front end with Genesis, NES and some other emulators built in. I'm not sure just how good or accurate the emulation is though since it seems to still be in it's earlier stages. Far as actual front ends go, I'm still working on setting up Hyperspin which is a hell of a project.

:what:

I use some filters as well, but that looks like you were watching porn, ejaculated all over the screen, heard someone coming to your room, hastily wiped it all over and then maximized the game you were playing before the masturbating session.

I mean, look at the poor thing's face. It longs for the sweet release of death.

I've never understood why one would ever WANT scanlines. WTF. You're basically just taking a perfectly good picture and then drawing horizontal black lines across it for no reason at all.

Come on man, you don't filter Henk Nieborg graphics. You might as well recolor Starry Night sepia.

You could say the same thing for every other full screen shader effect, but that doesn't stop retards from putting them in games. Scanlines at least have arguably more cause to be included than other such travesties.

Personally I don't use scanlines.
But I think that scanlined picture looks the closest to how it looked on good old CRT TV.

I don't have much nostalgia for the way things looked on my TV's. Rounded screens that warp at the edge, chunks of dead black space at the top of the screen where there should have been UI, screens that were too dark to see details on even at maximum brightness...

I'll agree that you can over filter a game though. But generally some AA looks a lot better, especially on text or other spots with high contrast.

Well damn, I now have some time to work on (another) translation project on the side. Never tried doing a game translation yet, but hell, why not !
Are there any codexian game not translated yet ? I guess I could start on some PC98 or FM Towns game, if there is nothing else interesting.

HQx4 is admittedly a little extreme, but it isn't like it's blurry and I don't always use it. There's a whole bundle of scaling filters for Kega that look decent and stretching actually doesn't look too bad either. 2x and Quad Raw also look good and preserve most of the pixelation. I think these are the most up to date which you can't find with any Kega bundles.

I've read a post here on a Romance of the Three Kingdoms-like RPG game where you chose your starting class from professions, like farmer, doctor, soldier... can't recall the name, but was supposed to be pretty incline heavy...

Oh, could be nice, I like the three kingdoms universe. If you can find the name, do send it :) (unless it's in chinese, I can only do japanese for now)

How about some more comparisons? I'm curious which looks best to some people.

1.) 2x PM HQ (filtered)

2.) 2x PM HQ (non-filtered)

3.) 2x PM LQ (filtered)

4.) 2x PM LQ (non-filtered)

5.) Quad Raw (filtered)
((note: Quad Raw non-filtered looks same as normal but filtered on normal looks like blurry shit))

6.) Scalex4 (filtered)

I'm looking at the latest incarnation, it looks pretty good. It seems especially designed for LPs, as you can use any picture you want for your hero

Yeah, I thought about translating Last Armageddon, the jap is even quite easy, but I have absolutely no idea how to add the translations ingame.
