Currently i'm in last mission in prologue and damn... it's hard, just when i thought i finished it at a later waypoint 2 kilrathi cruisers are protecting a jump point :(

You just have to stay alive for a certain period of time to finish the mission.

Finished the Prologue last night, starting on main campaign tonight. Having fun so far.

Call me dumbed-down ADD kid, bros - how does one turn on auto-pilot for the first mission in order not to fly to each point for 15 minutes?

Edit: I am blind. Alt+A.

Yeah, I can't figure out how to land on the carrier. I went for the deck, I assume, then wigged out and clipped with the ship and ended up outside. Controls are weird. No invert mouse, which sucks and who designed the menus? What are they supposed to be?

There's definitely something off with the mouse. It's control scheme is inverted to the one in Freespace 2 and there is no way to reinvert it. Secondly, the mouse "glides" instead of following your moves accurately - which is annoying when you are aiming.

Why did I have to leave my joystick at my old home? :x

Pfft, mouse control is for fags. I actually found it easier to use KB before I dug out my joystick.

I'm amazed that I still have the controls imprinted on my brain despite not playing Freespace 2 for about a decade. Had been meaning to but was waiting, waiting for the modders to update it until I forgot about it.

As for landing on the carrier, just slow down to the minimum speed that you are comfortable with in order to get into the docking bay then around half way stop. It will automatically end the mission. You don't actually 'land' like in Starshatter.

Ok, the mouse control is really killing the fun for me. I pass more time trying the center-the-cursor minigame than actually flying my ship and shoot things.

On the forum a moderator (which I assume is part of the team) said they will see if they can implement an optional F2 original mouse control. I really hope they do, because just the first missions of the prologue were great. And I love as fuck the text between missions.

How in god's name do you beat the corvette in the first mission? Can you? Does it even matter? I am obsessive-compulsive about these things.

I somehow managed to find a blind spot in its turrets coverage, switched all power to guns and kept shooting it without retribution. Unless you're not referring to the Prologue but to the main campaign.

I got as far as the fifth mission in prologue before giving up because of it. Anything short of Freespace 3 and I-War 3 won't be enough to persuade me to buy a joystick again.

Also this game has one huge downside in most missions: you have to wait way too long listening to the other pilots compared to how long you engage into the action. It can be very frustrating in the more difficult missions because of that. I want space sims to engage into major combat, not to listen to EMOTIONAL ENGAGEMENT between pilots for several minutes before the action kicks in. It is like the worst way "cinematic" experience could be implemented: unskippable and if you die you have to watch it all over again. In Freespace 1 and 2 it was less jarring because it was usually much, much briefer than this.

PATCH 1.1.0.7822

Patch notes:

-Addressed an issue that was causing launcher to not save sound device properly on some systems.
-Added tooltips for autopilot and glide usage.
-Alternative mouse steering is now available. You can choose between the WC and FS controls depending on your personal preference.
-Losing the TCS Aurora would block the game's progress. This has been addressed.
Damn I love these guys.

How did I miss that patch. I checked their website this afternoon.

Anyway, liking it so far, but the levels feel a bit formulaic so far, but I'm only a few levels in so I hope that's gonna change.

Am I missing something or there are no text chapters in between missions after the prologue?

Can I state that I really, really hate escort missions where you have to listen the dialog over and over again, with no way to skip the dialog.

Isn't Volition also working on a new Action RPG?

Summoner was a fine game I heard. They really need to stop with this Saints Row nonsense.
Play it bro.

Summoner really surprised me. A shame that the sequel never made it onto PC. Don't know what the problem was with the often mediocre reviews for both games when they were better in their class than many others.

If they are working on something other than Saint's Row then that's a good thing. I always thought Volition were criminally underused by THQ considering their talents, and I'm not just talking about no fucking Freespace game under those cunts!

It's kind of poetic justice that the reimagined Red Faction games tanked(obvious consoletard grab instigated from THQ management) despite the huge funds sunk into them, while Egosoft on a shoestring budget are prospering with their X series of games thanks to a loyal and pretty much captive base. Had THQ allowed Volition to do what they did best, it would have cost far less to make and been at least as successful.

They also work on that Del Toro game, InSane. And it's gonna be a huge failure, like any game that is being "directed" by a movie director who doesn't have a clue how games are getting created.

What a waste of time. I hope THQ dies a horrible death.

Summoner 2 was crappy, though. A glorified hack 'n slash game that complete shat over the first game.

A remake or enhanced edition of Summoner would be HEAVAN. The graphics of the game were already pretty crappy for the time it came out.

Well maybe it's good that it never came out on PC then. I only had the pleasure of the first one to draw on. Seems that THQ was already really digging it's claws into Volition by then. Why else change the combat?

The developers say this is meant to be a consequence for failing.

They literally acknowledging their shitty slow boring dialogue scenes that could easily have been put into the text chapters and believe that subjecting us to them repeatedly as a punishment for failure is good design and if we don't like it we should just lower the difficulty.

It hasn't inspired me to play far past the prologue yet.

Well I hope this isnt issue in main campagin, but in prologue the Demons rip the cargoship pieces in few moments if you use hard difficulty and there are more Demons then there are escorts. I think Privateer had similar mission that could end badly fast, but at least it didnt have corney/shitty banter between and enemies came in waves not all at once.

The opening banter is stuff that in older wing commanders would have come in between missions, read/hear once and be done. But instead we get what we got. A later mission with one jackass, whose opening banter is so annoying that I basically would start the mission, fly to the first waypoint then leave the room and grab a smoke every time I had to replay it until I managed to finish the mission. Otherwise it is a really good, really long fan made full conversion. Nothing more, nothing less.

Exactly what I do right now, otherwise I would uninstall it straight away. Its weird I didnt have this issue with Standoff, altough it had its own small problems. What ever, here's hoping they will release ship pack for flight sim, I do want to take Lance "Dragon" out for a spin.

I'm not saying there aren't some stuff that bugs me. Scripted deaths, The B button targeting the next bomber on the list not the nearest bomber, multiple unkillable kilrathi aces and I can't figure out how to link my joystick twist to fighter roll but flight sims of this quality don't come out very often so I am loving it. I doubt I will play it multiple times like I do with most decent flight sims though because of these annoying issues.

Actually, it gets somewhat better some missions later and the action then finally becomes more prevalent than banal shit boring mudcrab-rate dialogues, but this is a design decision that is still very irritating.

Until you get in a mission where you have to intercept multiple missiles that are continually accelerating towards a planet. Add to that the fact the AI pilots are too dumb to keep up with the missiles speed by using their afterburners, if you take too long the missiles will outrun you... and the planet like all planets in Freespace 2 Open engine games is way too brightly rendered and you'll have to face it while aiming for the missiles.

And shortly after that one another frustrating "shoot the missiles before they hit" escort mission. I hate those.

Ok, I finally gave and decided to get a low-end joystick. May be a good chance for a whole replay of FS1-ST-FS2 too, maybe some other mods I had sitting on my hard disk.

So, Codex, quick advice.
(Mind I'd use this only for Freespace).
