Why don't we see alliances between major gaming companies?

For instance, why don't Bioware and Bethesda combine to produce an rpg? Why hasn't something like this happened ever before, like say Origin and Westwood combining to create a crpg?

The buzz generated by such an alliance would be enough to boost sales considerably IMO. Both sides could profit from the venture.

Thoughts?

No, no they wouldn't.

Plus, they're fuckin' competitors.

And, oh, game companies combine their forces ALL THE FUCKING TIME.

FFS BIO pretty much handed NWN2 and KOTOR2 over to Obsidian on a silver platter. And, Obsidian is working with Bethesda now.

They owned the engine, and they're also the main reason why Atari/LA hired Obsidian. BIO also helped over see some aspects of well. Those sequels likely would not have been made by Obsidian if BIo didn't let them use the engine.

Arcades don't exist in any meaningful fashion anymore.

i want to see GFWL, and Steam merge. or Steam and GoG. or GFWL and GoG. the GoG merging, but make the markets seperate, would allow for some one stop shopping and we can all post on the same boards and sahre old and new game ideas.
