What would a Peter Molenyux crpg look like?

Lets see now: Fable was suposed to be an action-rpg, but it turned out to be an action-adventure game with character doll customization. A barbie game for video gamers, if you will.

Now, what if good ol' PM started work on a proper crpg, with stats adn everything. What would it look like?

IMO creature summoning would be big for spell casters. Mages would have familiars. Rangers would get animal companions. There would be lots of glowy effects. Lot of bloom. The good path would be so harcore, it would make a AD&D 2e paladin weep.
The game would be hyped as the best crpg ever made. EVAR!

*assumes Peter's British accent*

We've decided to look-- to really look at the RPG experience, and we asked ourselves "What does one care about when playing? What's the most important thing to our players", and we felt that traditionally, roleplaying games focused on building up a character from a series of traits, or specifications. After several sessions of brainstorming, we decided that the one thing that sums up a role playing character is Life, so we combined all the traditional specs into one Life spec. We know that people have an intrinsic love for life, a sort of survival instinct, and we felt that if our players were invested wholly in their character's life, then the whole experience would be that much more personal to them, which I feel is the key to role playing.

We then examined the traditional party system and it occurred to us that a party is really extensions of the player's personality, so rather than implement a system by which you assemble 4 distinct characters to adventure with, we've included a feature I like to call "The full-bodied personality". Jason, one of our creative designers will demonstrate for you. Now as he gets into position, notice the Life spec is inidicated by the heart icon. This is another way you really internalize your character's life... we all have a heart, and as long as we keep that heart from breaking, we'll be okay. No one likes a broken heart, even if he's a sword wielding mercenary bent on destruction.

Now then, as you see here, Jason has encountered a band of theives in the woods, and his character avatar has split into 4 clones, each having a distinct personality. One is more fond of the magical arts, and that's indicated by his flowing robes, while another is a warrior, as indicated by his rough steel and leather armor mishmash, and so on. Using our patented 1 button combat system, along with our new feeling sensor the game will automatically adjust itself in combat. Let's say you're feeling particularly down today-- such as Jason, whose boyfriend left him for me this morning, and you're not loving your Life the party will adjust itself to be more suicidal... such as your theif personality aspect jabbing himself in the ear with his lockpick as an idle animation, and please note that if you don't act in a timely manner in this instance, your warrior will fall on his sword at the futility of it all because at the moment the game knows when your Life has become meaningless and.... *trails off in some inane tangent*

Awesome.
It's so close to the real deal we could as well publish it on the front page without anybody noticing the forgery.

Isn't it obvious? We're all-- Andihara included-- involved in a nefarious plot to piss you off.

I am always amazed when my threads seem to bring back ancient, never before seen posters on Codexia.

Hmm, if DU and Taluntain had any brains about them, they would use me as a marketing tool.

Somehow I think there's a simpler explanation somehow...

DU should do it for the lulz, because some people would copy the story without really verifying it and drama will follow.

Seeing as how Molyneux has said that he believed Final Fantasy 7 defined the RPG genre, well...yeah.

He actually said that? Ffffffffff. I hate Peter Molyneux. On one hand he's a complete batshit insane nutter, but on the other hand he made Dungeon Keeper, Syndicate Wars and Magic Carpet.

Oh yeah. DU actually made a news post about it a while back. A news post that eventually developed into a huge drama thread. Worth a read.

It's because he died in 1997. You don't hate him, you hate his brainwashed clone which was brought to life for marketing purposes by the founders of Lionhead.
