Gamespy hasn't finished their official review of Civilization IV: Warlords just yet. However, they're so excited about this freshly released expansion that they had to get this first impressions article out ASAP. One of the things that has them so excited is the inclusion of scenarios that make Civ IV feel like a whole new game.

Then there are "Barbarians." There's only one way to describe this scenario -- insane. Barbarians completely rethinks the game, offering up a group of computer-controlled civilizations that auto-play a game for a number of turns. It's then the player's job to tear down all those soft-clothing wearing literate people with their running water and sanitation, who think they're so much better than we are. The barbarians can buy military units from a mobile "camp" unit with gold they get from looting cities and destroying infrastructure. Winning the game as a barbarian is not easy, as they'll inevitably be outclassed in just a couple of turns by advancing technology. This forces the player to keep moving and keep looting to supply the never-ending need for new units, creating a dynamic and fast-moving game. Full confession: I still haven't managed to conquer the world as a barbarian, but I certainly plan on spending a tremendous amount of time trying.

Read: Warlords Out of the Box

Spotted @ GameSpy
