Underworld Adventures, a remake of the classic Ultima Underworld, has updated their news page with a little tidbit about their progress. Here it is:

2003-02-11 - Muffin ... Yummy!

Release names are getting worse :) ... Today's release features initial conversation support (no inventory interaction yet), support for 3d models for static objects (some models from Sam Matthews are included) and usage of big textures larger than 256x256 is removed, which should help Voodoo3 card users. The digital music pack of course still works with this release.

People still run on Voodoo 3 cards?

Yes they do Saint:)

We should take up a collection for those poor saps and get them all $12 TNT2 cards. :)

It's just kind of sad that it's 2003, and 3Dfx is still holding developers back because of the limitations of their hardware, which were pretty limited when the card was released.

Ultima, ULTIMA!!!

Dude, they're remaking Ultima Underworld I with the original graphics. What the hell do they need textures larger than 256x256 for anyway? If anything, a Voodoo3 is letting them get away with too much - if they weren't so lazy, they'd stop relying on these pansy-ass 3d APIs and hand-code their own renderer, uphill, in the snow, just like they used to do in the old times!

Don't suppose you ever considered that people use them because they have older games they really like that only run in Glide?

The only Glide emulator that I know of still in development is Glidos and it only supports about a dozen games at the moment.

Well, the Voodoo 3 is a 2D/3D card. If that was the reason, they should just opt for the Voodoo2 card along side their real graphics card.

Besides, most of the GLIDE games also support software rendering, and machines these days should be fast enough to run like the wind in software.
