Is possible to beat Carnifex if you lose the initiative on the beginning of the battle?

I defeated him in the hardest difficulty recently, video in spoilers. My build is a pure RP build. I could have optimized my psy power selection much more and feats much more. The unique non RP thing that I'm doing is investing heavily into merchant as I wanna devastator.

Besides using food and paranoia feat, there is anything more to buff my initiative?

I"m playing in the hardest difficulty for the first time and just need more initiative, against Carnifex.
JKK jacket/infused heartbreaker serpent leather armour both give initiative. JKK is +5, heartbreaker I think depends on quality but it'll be around +4 or +5.
Sea serpent belt gives +3. But you can only get it sometimes, other times Styg says fuck you and the quest to get it isn't available.

Alternatively, forget about initiative and stack mechanical resistance instead. Gloves already have an armour piercing penalty, so riot gear+double tungsten boots+helmet make it easy to hit 95% effective DR against him. He's not so scary when you have 95% DR.
There's a chem called twitch, I think. Gives something like +8 to initiative. I used it a lot during my nimble tank shotgunner character.
Oh, you need Expedition for it though. Not sure if you have that DLC.
Doesn't work for Carnifex, it wears off during the incredibly long intro cutscene. I really hate that cutscene.

As far as I can tell that's by design, it used to be that even your shield would mostly or completely drain by the time the fight started, that was changed so your shield only turns on at the start of the fight during the initiative rolls.

So picked this back up last night after a long hiatus. Wanted to get through some backlog games, life etc

I have a character from a few years back, very early in game (clearing caves) this fuckin game just oozes atmosphere, not sure if the game is a min maxers wet dream, or if my character is good, I do know I had to leave the caves because I ran out of 5mm and saved/picked back up my character a year later standing like a pauper in front of a vendor staring at ammo I have nothing to offer for.

Guys, I keep getting a Zone Transition Failed error when I try to go to another area... Any idea how to fix this? :(

If you're don't mind cheating, there's a way to get infinite cash cheesing Ray's shop:

>buy Freighter
>park it somewhere the camera won't see you but will still pop up on selling jet dialogue
>equip it with the absolute best parts you can get
>sell it
>go back to the jet, stealth and take out the parts
>buy it (the price changes accordingly with the parts equipped)
>repeat step 3 and 4
>repeat step 4 and 5
>do it untill you're rich
You get around 2 or 3k each time you do this.

Fuck, I've finally made a breakthrough on my another DOM attempt and made it through depot A for the first time, woohooo!

It wasn't as bad as I've dreaded it to be - the key part was disabling plasma turrets, thankfully I got under pie to bump hacking up to 60.

Other than that it went relatively the same as with my previous run od hard - managed to clear every map except the one north from the Scrappers entrance with the biggest concentration of dogs/mutants.

Going with the same build as always, glass SMG stealth/grenadier, with only difference that this time I'll pump TM to get contraction and try versatility.

I kinda fucked up char creation and left AGI and PER both at 6 and since going with versatility I should've go with 7/5. This means no Hit and Run, which was always kinda crucial to this build, but I see how I'll manage. Sprint + psycho contraction perhaps will be enough,

Codex bros, I'm reinstalling this gem of a game after playing it back at release. The thing is, due to acute restartitis and build experomenting I never finished it, so this would be kind of a first playthrough for me. Question, is it worth picking up the DLCs then? Or should I just shut up and throw money at Stig anyways since he deserves it?

Expedition is an amazing DLC with a magnificient new location and at least 30 hours of gameplay added. Plus, if I remember correctly, it also expands the level cap with the Veteran's level. Completely worth it.

I haven't played Heavy Duty

Expedition is like a traditional expansion pack rather than a mere DLC, it's well worth it. Heavy Duty is comparatively insubstantial and arguably skippable if you aren't interested in playing a build that uses the new toys it adds.

I didn't enjoy doing Expedition main quest but it adds quite a lot of content to base game and as such I think it's worth it.

I have loved Expedition, to be honest. It adds also a lot of lore.

A win-win situation for you would be to finish the game first, then buy DLCs and finish the game again with them. Expedition, aside from having a huge separate map, adds a ton of new content to the base game. So there will be new shit for you to experience in places you thought you thoroughly explored. Heavy Duty is mid tbh, it could be annoying for a person that haven't finished the game a few times already. Buy it anyway cause Styg and bros deserve it.

Got started on a vanilla run (saving the expansions for a second playthrough) on normal difficulty, oddity XP with a sneaky dodging Sniper build. Just reached the Junkyard at lvl6.

Build is:
St: 5
Dex: 5
Agi: 8
Con: 3
Per: 9 (now at 10)
Will: 3
Int: 7

It feels a little meh at the moment, especially with how cramped the levels feel in relation to the range of the sniper rifle and in comparison to how my old SMG+grenadier build did. Query: does it get better as I level up and get used to the playstyle? Should I branch out in something like pistols or SMG as secondary weapons (although it looks like I’d need Dex at 6 for most of the feats)? I saw that Expedition has the feat Shooting Spree, how crucial is it for Sniper builds?

Thanks in advance Codex Bros.

I don't know a lot about the sneaky sniper rifle, but I think it would have bee better to lower str to 3 and add 2 points to dex

Sniper rifles are pain in the balls to start with, they become much better as the game goes on. Shooting spree is your bread and butter as a sniper, a must have.

I'd consider upping Dex to 6-7 and using throwing (Grenadier + Three-Pointer). It would be very good as support for sniper rifles. Crafted grenades are very strong (Mk.V HEs, Mk.III plasmas, toxic gas nades and magnesium/napalm molotovs). If your build is starved for feats, even just Grenadier makes a ton of difference.
