Tropico 6. It's a mix of Evil Genius and Sim City, built on top of Tropico.
It is now more of an economy/city sim than ever. That's not a bad thing, if you want to play such a game.
Tropico was originally a subversion of those kinds of games, but with Tropico 6, it has become what it used to parody.
As a sandbox game for a Caribbean-island city sim, it's fine! That's damning with faint praise. Tropico is not supposed to be a sandbox Caribbean simcity with atrocious dad-jokes.
Yet, that is exactly what it has become. It's not a
bad game, not in isolation, but it's not Tropico either.
When Haemimont and the Germans took over the development of the Tropico series, and made Tropico 3, they made a fairly faithful, but soulless 3D version of the first Tropico game. Ever since then, they've been moving it farther and farther into Simcity: Caribbean Island. They don't know what else to do with it, the concept of Tropico is inherently problematic today and to embrace it fully, would probably be attacked as crypto-fascist and politically incorrect.
