Whoever thought this is a good idea needs to have their head examined.

Im under impression that Paradox saw that mods are keeping Sims 4 afloat and that the plan is to just make a bareboned but very easily moddable Sims clone. This dialog system is probably one of many features that the devs put in if someone wants to make scenarios, quests, plotlines with dialog choices. Basically its seem more as a building tool then something used directly in gameplay.

But how knows maybe I am wrong.

The life sim genre itself is cursed.

The Sims 4 was hollow and lifeless, but Paradox came out on their forums in 2015 and promised the life sim fans that they were working on something. So people either reluctantly kept playing Sims 4 for what it was, or simply went back to Sims 3 and waited and hoped for whatever Paradox was cooking up.

Almost 8 YEARS of waiting later, out comes Life by You and it looks like an undercooked piece of shit. What was Paradox doing this whole time while EA was raking in the cash with Sims 4?

I think they were afraid to be the first to take the risk, but then came along Paralives which proved there is a large section of consumers who are hungry for an alternative to The Sims.. so now Paradox is scrambling at the last minute to try to corner the market before Sims 5 shits the bed. What a shitshow.

To me it just reeks like someone at the company wanted to do this game but someone higher up than them took their sweet time greenlighting the project or giving it the resources it needed to flourish. Hence why Life By You looks more like an Alpha tech demo than it looks like a fully realized game. If they're expecting the modders to finish the game for them, they can go fuck themselves.

That doesn't seem fit to be an "expansion pack" (that's their biggest content releases that cost the most). I thought landlords and paying rent were a problem for these people anyways. Also, a lot of these features seem to crossover with the City Living expansion, at least going by the trailer.

I really don't like Text Parsers being used like this. The sims struck gold with the pie menu, they just need to get rid of the queue. Chaining actions I've always found not a very good way of handling interactions, it is a design problem that could be resolved easily had the game not been built around the fact that animations are slow and padded to hell. Its something Star Wars Galaxies got wrong as well. It should be very fast to interact with characters so the player isn't just waiting around for shit to happen.

At least with a hotel you could get fancy with it and combine it with public restaurants , hiring staff, dealing with busy seasons and all that shit. But I suppose that would be a little too much simulation depth for The Sims 4 and beyond the scope of what EA calls a $40 expansion pack these days. Fucks sake these zoomers have no imagination; they're happy doing things in the Sims that they already do in real life like PAYING RENT.

They create own life, but better. That's why they need inconvenient elements of real life.

Another diffusing mod trivia - there is mod for drugs. Aside of their positive effects, there is always consequence. Sims suffers, but players can sustain illusion of using drugs.

Making your sims do drugs until they turn into a wreck has the same energy as drowning them in a pool or locking them in a burning room, people don't do that to sustain some illusion of self-harm, they do it because it's fun to put virtual people into negative situations and see what happens.
