Nonono, I just meant, generally make the vegetation and earth look "neat". Like it does in Adom. I know there's a way to enable that.

There's an option in the init file to make the ground graphics uniform.

From the game directory, open data\init\init.txt

Just change the similar option(use search to find it) to no and you got it:

Thx Mayday :D

A little hint for maps without water - brewing and plant gathering is very important :D I started a fortress, in cold area, where all the water is frozen - and now I'm digging every level looking for underground river.

Don't spoil yourself, dealing with aquifers is the coolest little emergent engineering challenge in this version of the game.

I find myself having a similar problem... I get bored too quickly. Just as things are starting to pick up I think to myself "This is boring. I can't find any (insert favorite metal or feature here), there aren't enough dangerous critters on the map, and its kind of boring just buying the caravan out with a single aluminum trinket. Nothing wants to siege me either. Maybe I should start over with a new map and see if that is more fun somehow."

Then I either abandon, or do something reckless to cause everyone to die horribly, then start over.

I had a map where my source water was a couple of z-levels above my fortress, so I decided I'd build a big funnel into the roof of it, and channel a waterfall into it. I'd built quite an elaborate irrigation/canal system prior to digging that final channel, and was so confident in my work that I didn't bother to floodgate the source channel before letting it go.

It worked perfectly as far as providing water, but the extra z-levels meant that once the waterfall filled my reservoirs, it then started spilling out across the landscape and ended up flooding most of the map.

I ended up having to dig up (stupid) to make an alternate stairway coming out above the z-level of the water source, and building a waterwheel and a couple of pumps to stem the flow enough to put a floodgate in, which then became the penultimate siege defense after blocking up the alternate stairway. One day I'll have to do the same with magma. :D

I wouldnt worry about that too much at the moment anyway, the high end content (economy) is currently bugged and doesnt work.

Military dwarves spar like crazy now. Nothing like charging a siege force with a squad of 26 champions.
