IMO the first Avernum has one of the best opening ever. It's standing there with PST, BG2 and Arcanum. "you are never going to see sunlight again. You will never breath gresh air, or be warm or be safe" and bam, thrown through a portal into another world for a crime you don't even know. I find it simple, elegant and direct.

Honestly building up a massive stash of magical consumables in the Tower of Magi, to be used only when heading off on the hardest missions in quite immersive! Only took me a few minutes to sort all that junk into a scrolls/ammo/wands/potions pile, a herbs pile, and an equipment pile.

I really love Jeff Vogel's games even if they are old and shitty in some ways, like mushrooms and mandrake having the exact same graphic. I think they have the best setting/exploration and maybe even the best writing because it doesn't have pretentious melodramatic BS in it.

I have done that soooo fucking many times......i am yet to actually use anything from those stacks. Just keep invulnerability and speed elixirs, the rest is garbage. I also love to keep all the crystals, not the one that you use,the one that you sell.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to be using Energy potions too, a lot of them.
Plus in that drake fight I posted a while ago, wands/scrolls saved me when I ran out of energy. I should sell healing potions etc though.
