Not necessarily MP. Even an AI that works strategically within the same bounds as a player with conflicting goals would be nice.
I have also been paid to play games as a Twitch partner for a few months — I got bored of it, 8-10 hours of playing the same set of games that were exciting to stream. I mainly did that to learn the Twitch platform and just for fun. The money merely a side effect.

1:1 we’d want an Ai to compete with the QA guys in testing to maximize test cycles anyway, so it could ship with both Ai oppponent and a human opponent mode — networking isn’t a trivial subsystem but it’s not that complex these days compared to the old days.

Upon reading the title, my first thought was that this thread was about a compelling new RPG where you play the role of a land surveyor on a remote frontier between civilization and terra incognita, which seemed just about perfect for an explorefag like me. I still like that idea better than any of your poll options, so I'll stick with it. Make it third-person isometric TB, please.

Flight sims sell. Don’t see why a land surveyor RPG wouldn’t.

Killspace Entertainment was a game studio founded in Los Angeles in 2009 by Montgomery Markland and Larry Liberty. The headcount grew to roughly to 40 persons and in 2011 the company released Yar's Revenge, a remake of the Atari 1981 classic. Besides this, the company started work on several projects, including a game based on the Apocalypse Now movie. None of those ever got completed, and the company ceased activity in early 2012.

Guy also made a movie in which he starred himself.

It's hideous I'm afraid. Can't even remember how I came across it or how it ended up on my watchlist but the premise sounded intriguing and the poster looked good. The alarm bells rang immediately though with a poorly acted and tediously banal opening monologue. The credits were high school level. The first scene post credits was bad high school level acting... both stiff and chemistry free. There's zero timing between the cast and the dialogue is stilted. The direction is poor and the whole things lacks any creative spark. I think the good reviews and scores are presumably because only friends and family have seen it. Brings me no pleasure to say that everyone else should avoid.

I wasn’t in the movie’s cast originally. We lost one of the actors to “choked under pressure” so extreme measures had to be taken or the production would have collapsed.

(Won’t list everything — everything is 3 careers, 25 years, 20 pages if it was a CV that listed all items — everything confuses people I might do business with so it’s better to curate it)

I spent most time running game studios & companies, sometimes with distribution capacity. And advising peers on running their studios and companies.

Some execs / founders like a credit on the game, if they are focused on building a personal brand and especially if they started out in creative & design.

Most c-level execs who were producers first don’t take credits and put the credit focus on the creative leads, lead producer, whoever drove the successes of a project, because then it’s both a reward and it builds the brands of multiple people at your company.

That way you can turn a designer into a name you can put in the key people list in the pitch deck for another project, for example.

Additionally, sometimes there’s a huge financial incentive to “white label” a product. Your company makes it — another company pays +200% or more to have exclusive credits, so it is marketed as their game (even though another company made the game).

As for searching me, posting anything public, that’s not doxing. I’m a member of SAG with an IMDB profile, highly public and controversial interviews (rarely) such as with Breitbart, and so on. There isn’t any way for me to make private most information about me, except things I intentionally never spoke about.

Google and whatnot create the search output for people after they are searched enough to generate a knowledge panel and are identified as a “verified individual” in a business.

I don’t have any control over what the search results are unless I go spend money on a search focused PR company to lobby, SEO and otherwise alter the search results. Which I don’t care to do, so my work in politics won’t ever show up in search, game related interviews I gave (which were rare, I generally didn’t want to speak to press) are suppressed past many pages because most people search in relation to the movie these days.

It works like an A/B test — whatever people click the most on in the results gets pushed high and whatever people don’t gets pushed low.

And the results constantly change, sometimes google will say I am an actor, sometimes it will say I am a producer, and so on.

As for the hours thing, after 17 years of working 70+ hours a week and being in the c-suite within a year of starting at Obsidian, 30K hours is not abnormal. I also still consulted on non game things, politics, toys, other technology, dating apps. And made a movie, which took a fair amount of time.

My only point was, since I leapfrogged into an executive role nearly immediately, all of the hours of XP in games in the past 17 years have been in senior+ positions.

The Killspace corporate bio is nearly 99% fake news, but I’ve started 7 companies or joint ventures/partnerships since then, so it’s not worth getting someone to fix it.

Let it be a curious black box where no one knows what really happened.

And all good regarding anything, I don’t care even if you did call me a fraud.

I do come across pretty agro in writing because there’s zero chance you get anywhere in Hollywood unless you operate as an exec.

But check with the thousands of people I’ve employed — 96% of them (at least the talented ones and the ones I didn’t fire or layoff) would automatically come work with me again. I never punch down or yell at people in the office or on a set.

I have been in some gnarly battles with exec peers (one involved a Louisville slugger and a computer).

But if you’re in business with people like Harvey Weinstein, and you are not a sociopath, you better learn how to tango.

Between a few projects I’ve been on, I’ve been called every name in the book online and on social media at some point — that sort of thing is water off a ducks back once you experience it at scale (especially worldwide scale).

What’s probably strange is me being transparent about things here — most people will not do that, and lots of peers in the businesses I am in REALLY don’t like that I do that.

But I was just an RPG player in law school when I first lurked here, so it seems natural to me, when I stop back by, to just act like I’ve always acted, instead of putting on a front and being fake aloof.

Which would be lame and boring — unlike the bull in a china shop show that is just my default style.

And don’t sleep on the inside story of the merger of Hollywood and game business — it’s probably movie worthy.

I found this poll very funny, because none of these ideas materialize in real game along 10–20 years. Big games are based on marketing polls (a.k.a self-fulfilling prophecy) and according to them players are xer zoomers. Meantime, little games come from nostalgia and/or Tumbrl-like mentality, not so different from big games.

Only Japs had original ideas and necessary lever of real developing abilities. But only mater of time when even Nippon drowns in modern sensitivities.

Isekai will be the next big thing in 5-10 years. You can screenshot this. Just like normies jumped on the zombie bandwagon with normie shit like "the walking dead", and then the vampire bandwagon with "true blood" and "twilight", then the 80s with "stranger things", there will be a moment when isekai will be it. I won't go into the whys and wherefores, it's obvious stuff, the allure of Isekai LitRPG is especially powerful in a narrative form -- it's simultaneously a powerful power fantasy and powerful escapism. Isekai litRPG web serials and manga being written en masse right now by the crazy cat ladies and the school kids is all retarded, but the idea won't let them go, so they try again and again with their incapable little brains, because the premise is just too good. And then one day it'll hit someone in California in the head and it'll go mainstream.

Any first-person or third-person game necessitates spending a large portion of the budget on detailed 3D models, face morphs, lip syncing tech, mocap and what have you. To get the budget in the first place, you let third parties have some influence on the game's overall gameplay and themes (i.e. having to dumb it down to appease the evil publisher). Then you yourself have to play safe as not to jeopardize the monumental multimillion-dollar project. Making a competent project like that can definitely sell, but won't end up as something the Codex considers actually good, not 'good for what it is'.

There's been a fair amount of titles that lean heavily on dialogue trees and skill checks, here they get disparaged as visual novels. Then you have nu-XCOM clones, maybe with base building elements but without a quest structure or personality for party characters.

So it's not very meaningful as to which of the original storylines you choose. The gameplay mechanics should be a much larger part of the pitch or even the initial vision. For political or mystery RPGs you can end up with something like Suzerain, something like The Council, or that shitty French Revolution game. It's a hit or miss thing, and you haven't done anything to prove that your project isn't going to be a miss like most of them who tried something ambitious from the start.

Generally true and agreed about the budget — but there are cheat codes that can be used.

Did the French Revolution game have usable guillotines? If no, fundamental design fail.
