This game wasn't posted here yet, so I decided to create a thread for it since today its leaving early access to 1.0 release.

I played it for 62h around 1,5 year ago... I tried many top-down space combat games and I didn't like most of them, but this one is different, I liked it and the ship systems are really good.

There is a lot of customization, Class, Ship, Installed Systems, Crew, etc... there are some "rogue-like" elements in it since you unlock ships and classes (IIRC) for future playthroughs.

Its made by a solo dev from Brazil... The Brazilian Slaughter Clockwork Knight Barbarian

startsector controls are a pain in the ass to me honestly, this game is on my watchlist, may give it a try, maybe it is easier to navigate

I'm close to biting the bullet but I'm afraid that like other space sandbox games it just becomes really boring and grindy fast. The combat does look good.

Edit: Got the game. It is quite grindy as I thought, but it's not as annoying either. You can get constant cheap micro upgrades and each one always feels like it is making you significantly stronger giving you a nice and steady pace in progress. Combat is also quite challenging and fun. I've been mainly mining and trying to scavenge so I can upgrade my items into a higher rarity but I need to go into dangerous pirate sectors to get some good stuff and that puts me at constant danger as I try to sneak in a few asteroids and get out before a bigger ship comes for me. Sometimes I can mine a bit longer in peace as I just go in between the asteroids while the pirate circles the field in a bigger ship, unable to get in.

I've tried it for an hour or two and dumped it.
It's a baby's first unity game that expanded for an unspecified amount of time on its own, likely without plan or any thought. Like a tumor.
Here's a typical sector map.
P0vQuoA.png
Note a distinct lack of a star, or orbits, or anything spacey for that matter. Note the respawning "Debris Field" loot boxes. Note the goddamn potato-shaped "Asteroid Field" (with respawning asteroids crammed into that little area like sardines).
This picture alone should stop anyone from playing this.

What you don't see there is:
- you fly from station to station in realtime, for about two minutes in every direction, without timeskip or anything happening;
- retarded controls;
- "factions" that differ only in names and pictures of the ships;
- retarded trading filled with random numbers (the mining station sells minerals at a higher price than a trading hub... and sells better ships as well; because magic);
- quests that ask you to move from point A to point B without cargo or doing anything useful at all. Just get your ass there - get paid! It's a nigga fedex paradise!
- gameplay centered around minivans that pretend to be spaceships.

If you really want to play a game about minivans pretending to be spaceships, try Elite X Pirates a Russian classic "Space Rangers 2". It's at least as polished as it can be for this kind of game, has plot, functional economics and even several rubberhead aliens that do act differently.

Or you know what? Play Vangers. It's a Pathologic of the mad max-like shooting car genre. It has world that's unfair, it has voxels, it has big bad spiky minivans that jump, burn and do drugs. And their aliens are... Just you wait and see. Your mechos awaits, kolesnik.

For me the biggest issue with the game is that there doesn't seem to be any real simulations happening. Everything is static. You'll see NPCs called miners and such flying around, but I think it's mostly just to give the illusion of a more lived in world. That, or they drop cargo with asteroid stuff.

I think it's quite rare to have a fully simulated economy like in X4.

Of course, but that's why so many of these space games get it wrong. You need to have some degree of simulationism. Otherwise you run into the situation like I did earlier today where I had two planets sitting right next to each other one had Titanium on the cheap and the other bought it for a high price. But because the economy is not simulated the buy/sell price remained static so I could just go back and forth and rake up an awful profit for extremely little amount of effort. I noticed that the market prices did correct themselves once I left the sector and came back, so this might actually be some kind of bug. Or it could also be that the economies change randomly when you enter a sector to give the illusion of a simulation.

The problem that the developers of these space games don't seem to get is that you need to have an overarching goal for the player, and being part of a dynamic world is a powerful one. Most space games just feel like you are grinding for the sake of grind. At least in this game the combat and ship customization is fun, but that means that the trading and mining aspects which are supposed to be viable alternative ways to play are pretty pointless, apart from needing mining for resources to make better weapons.

Homo Elf Hobo Elf you'd probably like Starcom: Nexus
https://rpgcodex.net/forums/threads/starcom-nexus-top-down-open-world-space-action-rpg.135103

not an autism sim, but doesn't complete ignore that aspect either
I had that on my list, but ended up never buying it maybe for dumb reason.... the ships lego looks turned me off, so I decided not to buy, but the rest of the art I really like..what is good about the game? I honestly don't really care about graphics that much, its just there are so many games that I will look for any reason almost to not buy one..but maybe I should give it a second pass..

This is a good practice. Games should not have this unless they focus specifically on trading. If it leans into adventure territory in any way, sim economy is a waste of effort.
